I did find a PAYING job and Dr. Mekles is very supportive and shows real interest. With Dr. Mekles - I'm able to taper my benzodiazepine slowly - with lots of support from the doctor. He's very patient and is very understanding and knowledgeable about withdrawal symptoms. He didn't push me - but prodded me to do this vital step The secretary is very helpful. She answers text messages immediately - to assist with medication renewal requests and appointment changes - when needed. Very professional indeed Medication management is the best I've ever had and he tries his best to keep my med count to a minimal level. I highly recommend Dr. Mekles - and thank you very much.

My experience with Dr. Brian Pell deserves to be publicly documented so others know exactly what…read morethey are walking into. I booked an appointment specifically for an ADHD assessment, clearly stated as such. That was the entire purpose of the visit. Yet, during the call, Dr. Pell casually informed me that they are not conducting ADHD assessments at this time and may resume, possibly in January or February of next year. This immediately raised a red flag: if you are not offering the service, why accept an appointment for it? Why bill insurance for something you never intended to provide? The entire interaction lasted 18 minutes, and not a single part of it resembled an evaluation. Instead, we spent the bulk of the time discussing my career. He asked about my former psychiatrist's nationality; he seemed very interested in why he didn't take insurance "as a Black doctor" (which I perceive as a common conflation between race and poverty). He then asked only two quick, surface-level questions about why I was seeking an ADHD assessment. Then in the same breath that he told me they are not doing assessments, he also told me that I probably do not have ADHD. He said this despite the fact that I was coming to him for a second opinion after already completing a comprehensive, legitimate ADHD evaluation with a diagnosis from an actual specialist. (I did not share I was coming in for a second opinion, as I didn't want it to be biased). He provided no testing, no structured questions, no clinical methodology, nothing that even remotely resembled evidence-based practice. The whole thing felt dismissive, and frankly, like a complete waste of my time. I left the appointment feeling misled and deeply uncomfortable, as insurance had been billed for a service that was never delivered. If you are seeking serious mental health care, diagnostic clarity, or responsible clinical practice, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This experience felt unhelpful and entirely out of alignment with what any patient should expect from a licensed provider.

As someone who suffers from ADD/ADHD (what is it even technically called?), when you're met with roadblock after roadblock on the course to treatment you eventually just... stop looking. That's actually what happened to me. A professor of mine noticed that some symptoms I was exhibiting matched that of a fellow student who also struggled in the class. He suggested I seek a diagnosis as it could help provide me the necessary resources in college to overcome something I was up against. Growing up in the 90s, I, like many others my age, was told that we were just lazy, not trying hard enough, and that ADD/ADHD wasn't real and eventually I believed it. Now, a teacher of about the same age (I'm back in school thanks to the panny), is suggesting I seek treatment. So I started looking. I looked for months. Nobody had availability. I actually was about to give up when my partner came found Modern Integrative Psychiatry on Yelp. Normally they're crazy booked out, but thanks to whatever circumstance, I was able to secure an appointment with PMHNP Ashley Winn. I've been seeing her for around 6 or 7 months now and honestly it was the best decision I ever made. She makes seeking treatment painless and effortless. We meet remotely so even though I no longer live in the best city in the universe, I'm able to see her from campus, my car, or wherever I have access to the internet. It's been a great experience and I can't recommend this office or Ms. Winn enough. For those, like me, who may have suffered for too long without seeking treatment due to the stigma: give it a shot. You'll be happy that you did.

I warn you all to stay away and be wary of this exploitative private practice where the staff is…read morenot trained to deal with neurodivergent people or senior citizens especially with disabilities, ranging from vision and hearing impairments. Their website doesn't match the poor, rude, and frustrating staff that we dealt with to just schedule an appointment, which parents couldn't have scheduled on their own independently. For example, they're still paper-based. This is incredibly unsafe because their staff collect and share medical and financial info without HIPAA-compliance via encrypted forms or emails. Who knows how they or whoever accidentally gets this sensitive info may abuse it? Plus, this makes it difficult for those who aren't tech-savvy to complete their new patient intake, which is only 15 minutes. When we heard that their missed visit fee was $250 from their staff (especially their insensitive practice manager), they were neither empathetic nor accommodating in responding to our clarifying questions. When I checked that they only charge $50 for missed appointment fees, I was still alarmed because their patients likely struggle with issues, ranging from executive function to emotional regulation, and yet they show no compassion for resolving misunderstandings with neurodivergent patients and caregivers except to exploit their deficits by coercing them to pay for what they signed under false pretenses. No breakdown of costs including missed appointment cancellation fees were provided to answer our request. Plus, their staff conflicted with their messaging whereby their practice manager claims that they require cancellations within 24 hours to replace the vacancy with another patient while the other receptionist stated that it's impractical to find another patient on short notice. Since they don't seem to have social media, a system for communicating with patients efficiently except by phone and email, or even a telemedicine-equipped service to reduce costs during and after the pandemic, maybe that's why they';re so desparate to nickel and dime a disabled, neurodivergent senior citizen for missing a new patient intake after suffering from a stroke, recovering from a flight with vertigo, and other complications. Clearly, their staff have no business sense to invest in patient-centric customer care and I have no doubt this business will eventually close given their inability to treat the neurodiverse community with respect according to the American Disabilities Act and other regulations. Had they accommodated a courtesy waiver or televisit intake, they could've gain a family of patients and referrals at the expense of damaging the hard-earned reputation of Dr. Alan Steinberg, MD, who "served as a psychiatric consultant to Suffolk County Adult Protective Services and the Elder Abuse Multidisciplinary Task Force for Suffolk County." What would happen if their patients learned this is how their staff, including medical director, who is only a nurse, mistreats other prospective patients? Plus, he'd rather trust his staff than listen to the patient and caregiver for a balanced, holistic perspective to make any billing decision. Would you want a clinician claiming to be a doctor making one-sided decisions without listening to your account of events for a fair chance at reconciling misunderstandings? Worse yet, who is making medical decisions & prescribing drugs when there seems to be no certified doctor (except an emeritus retiree, who let's a nurse take over his practice)? Doesn't this sound scary, unsafe, and wary? ZERO stars if I could rate this place, which would likely be disgrace to its founder.
