I entrusted Dr. J.J. Wendel with my life savings nearly $25,000 to perform a revision surgery to define my breast fold (IMF) or crease and lower my areolas , the pepperonis of the breast. I was transparent with him and his nurses about the trauma I had endured, including being abandoned by an ex-partner because of my physical appearance, and I made it clear that this surgery was my attempt to finally heal after the death of my mother and get me life back. I put my total trust in his hands to fix the crease and areolas I came to him for; instead, his care resulted in physical deformity and a total breach of professional conduct. He took my money, ignored my specific surgical goals, and left me more broken than when I arrived. The Physical Facts and Deformity I paid nearly $5,000 specifically for a nipple papule procedure. Instead, my nipple literally fell off in the shower. For months, I sent emails in distress after my surgery before my nipple went down the drain. I was terrified. When I asked for even a partial refund for this $5,000 failure, he refused. Deformity & Scarring: My stomach and breasts still appear as "one piece," as do my back and buttocks now. I paid for a butt lift and I am now left with a deep "ditch" crease extending from my butt crack to my mid-back. It is tight, hideous to look at, and painful. I had a curvy physique before, and now I am flat. Beyond that, I have painful "black popcorn" rugged scars that did not exist before. They are jagged and ugly, extending under my armpit and to my back. My previous incisions were smooth and neat. He kept saying it would be you but better. I am not better, it is worse. Failed Revision: My areolas, werent moved or lowered, which is something I specifically paid for. He kept saying it was improved, but they are in the exact same spot . After a follow-up, he saw me in the hallway and said, "At least they look good with your clothes on." He said it with a smile like he was proud. I sent him a picture of me in office attire with one nipple sitting near my collarbone, poking through my shirt on a Zoom call. It was so embarrassing. I wondered why people were looking at me like that. You can see it sitting way up high in the photo--right breast high, and no nipple on the left. I can't wear office clothes without feeling humiliated. I close my eyes when passing mirrors because I can't bear to look at myself. Unprepared Post-Op I was sent home with surgical drains despite no prior disclosure or care instructions. I was just given a bag full of stuff I didn't understand. I was so lost and confused after my surgery, having no idea what to do with the drains. Now, he has "divorced" me. He emailed me the consent form to release my records at his request, not mine. Because I am on HRT (hormones) and need mammograms, I am now left without a physician to consult with my gynecologist for these necessary cancer screenings. He took my money and left me with medical risks. The Professional Conduct and Verbal Aggression At my six-month checkup in October 2025, it wasn't getting better. He told me to wait until May 2026 for another revision and marked my body again, showing where he would make incisions between my breasts--an area he admitted surgeons normally avoid. He was willing to scar me further even though he admitted the crease was "destroyed" and the surgery wouldn't fix my problem. He insisted I pay even more money for this, despite my nipples falling off. He even made it about himself, complaining that his bills were going when I asked him for at least a partial refund. I sent an email to his office manager asking again for a refund, she had me make an appointment with Dr. Wendel. I did and took my 80 yr old Vietnam veteran dad with me for support. Dr. Wendel was verbally aggressive and yelled: "I don't care how many family members you bring up there, I'm not giving you your money back." AND I QUOTE. He then stormed off. Before the surgery, he was shaking my dad's hand and thanking him for his service. To treat my father that way? My dad did nothing but try to support his daughter. Any parent would.I wouldn't expect a second-class basement mechanic to behave that way, let alone a physician. Conclusion I signed consent forms while nurses called him the "boob whisperer" and told me I could trust him. As a Christian and fellow woman, I trusted them. I have worn a bra 24/7 for nearly a year because he made me believe the crease might form that way, knowing it wasn't true. He told me my crease was destroyed when I came to him so if it was destroyed, why would he take 25k from me? He told me I should be "glad" he took my case and that no other doctor would touch me, which is a lie. Another doctor said they could help, but I can't get the surgery because Dr. Wendel refuses a refund. He keeps saying "it's improved." It's not improved. It's changed, but changed doesnt mean better. I am deformed, humiliated, and out of my life savings. read more

I had PermaLip implants put in by Dr. Wendel in October 2017. Traveling from St. Louis to Nashville, I felt like he seemed skilled in this small area of expertise. My review of the implant procedure itself is different that my review of the doctor and office. My experience with Dr. Wendel was limited to only a consult on Skype and an office visit and procedure on the same day for the PermaLip lip implants. Judging by the office and PR for the practice, he seems to do a lot of procedures. I was happy with their communication prior to my procedure and things ran smoothly in the office on the day I went. Taking CareCredit is a plus. The follow-up via email was responsive and helpful. He offered to fix any issues I had, but I don't think I'm going to end up needing that. My only complaints would be a) they need to prescribe percocet NOT vicodin for lip implants. I also ran out of pills still in pain, b) they need to offer ice after such a procedure (my filler Dr provides ice packs which feel so good afterwards) and c) the aftercare paperwork did not match what the nurse told me after the procedure for aftercare, in fact it completely contradicted it. That bothered me and left me confused and thinking they did not do many Permalip procedures. My implant was centered and I had no complications (other than crazy massive swelling), so I'd totally recommend. Given the pain, annoyance and discomfort associated with the lip implants, I can't say I'd do it again. I don't feel that was well conveyed. My experience may have been different with less swelling and adequate pain meds. read more

Dr Wendel is a phenomenal surgeon and I genuinely thank God every day for him. In 2018, I got my breast implants done in Miami with 300cc of silicone. About a year to a year and a half later I began to feel my breast tighten like rocks. I went back to my original doctor with my concerns, they brushed me off and said I was fine. Fast forward to 2020 my breast had gone to a grade 4 and were extremely painful. I knew I needed them redone but not a lot of doctors had experience with capsular contractures. I had 2 PRP Microneedling back to back procedures done here. The Nurse Practitioners are very knowledgeable and gentle with the procedure. I especially like how I felt 0 pain. Although, the cost is around $680 per procedure. I've been to one other place to get PRP at a $300 lower price and really appreciate how non-painful this location is with the procedure and worth the money. Pictures are taken of your face and this location is neat, staff are friendly as well. My first experience was pretty salesy with their products, I do like their koji pads, they are amazing, but I try to use products with less synthetic ingredients. I have been here before for tattoo removal and have always had a very pleasant experience. This morning was my first time getting injections (liquid rhinoplasty). Ruined my skin. I went in for a tattoo removal on my wrist and they talked me into doing a 2 for 1 session and they burned my skin way too deep into my arm. The woman using the laser had no idea what she was doing and kept trying to sell me other services. The skin on my wrist fell off for days and boiled up very high. It took weeks to heal. Literally looked green towards the end. They never gave me instructions or cream to heal it until I came back in freaking out because of how infected it look. They gave me antibiotic burn cream and it finally started to heal. That was a few years ago and I have thick scaring on my wrist now. I will eventually seek out another doctor to see what can be done about the scaring and potentially further lightening but terrified of going close to a laser ever since this happened. Dr Wendel and his staff are so awesome. I'm new to the area and found him on Realself. The office staff is very friendly and not pretentious or hoity toity like some offices I've been to. Emily is a PA who does Botox and fillers and I HIGHLY recommend her. She took her time, making sure it was perfect. She's really sweet too. I'd had filler done at two places previously and while I was happy with the results, it didn't really look much different (especially $600 different!). Now they look noticeably fuller but not 'duck lips' at the same time. Emily called it a pout. :-) I also had a consult with Dr Wendel and after mistaking him for a medical assistant or nurse, the shock wore off quickly. He really seems to love his job. While showing me what a procedure could look like, he seemed to really 'geek out' about it. He especially loved showing me how he does the belly buttons during a tummy tuck. I told him while working as a waxer I saw MANY bad tummy tucks and belly buttons. He sat and took 5 minutes, even drawing it out, explaining how he does them and why he wants them to look as normal as possible, saying 'It's in the details.' Went in to have a year old tiny stick n poke tattoo removed, was told it would take 8 sessions, with 8 weeks in between each session. That would mean over the span of a year to remove a cheap tattoo at over $125 each session. Absolutely absurd. Had to move forward with it because you are forced to put down a deposit when scheduling. It is clear that they are more about making your money then doing a service correctly. Also was forced to buy a cream which is the same as Aquaphor. While getting my tattoo removed, I noticed that it did not hurt at all. It barely felt like anything and that's when I really knew it was a bad idea. Nothing came of the removal, it didn't even fade slightly. No scaring or redness either, and as someone who works for a dermatologist, the skin should've been irritated at least slightly from the laser. Very upset with the work done and how much it cost. One year later I went to a different place in a different state and it was removed in one session for $100. Even they laughed at my story about this nashville office and could tell it was purely about money. Would not recommend this place for tattoo removal. Surgery date; July 6, 2015 I had consulted many top plastic surgeons prior to Dr. Wendel, some are based in Nashville, Washington, and in my home country (which is thousands of miles away from the U.S), and I was still hesitant to move forward. Having read the majority of reviews in numerous medical publications and by peers, and former patients online, I decided to schedule a consultation, Dr. Wendel was kind enough to conduct the consultation through Skype due to the location barrier and it took him 8 minutes to go over the whole thing and made me comfortable enough to fly in and have a second consultation followed by the surgery all within 10 days. Remarkable After arriving in the States I had the pleasure of meeting the Doctor in his beautiful office and discuss the procedure in detail, during the same visit a few standard documents were signed and the date of surgery was set. The day of surgery went by quickly. Went in and out in less than three hours, most of which was for anesthesia and I was fast asleep before Dr. Wendel took over, woke up shortly after with zero pain and found a lovely thank you card signed by Dr. Wendel and his staff. A week later was my post-op with Dr. Wendel, he assured me that the mild swelling and numbness would fade away gradually (almost completely healed now) The sutures were then removed by his awesome nurse Ms. Lynn. That was it! Dr. Wendel is not only an amazing surgeon, he is an amazing man! I had my consultation in June of 2017. While at my appointment, my car battery went dead. Dr. Wendel himself, came outside and got mt car going again. I had my surgery on July 5, 2017. He is the most compassionate, funny, guy ever. He makes you feel completely comfortable from the first minute you meet him. His staff is also absolutely amazing. They are always smiling and make you feel right at home. On July 25th, I had a huge abcess to appear on one of my incisions.(with me being a nurse, I knew these kind of things could happen with absolutely no fault of the surgeon, it was just a reaction my body had) I called his office that morning, Dr.Wendal was on vacation that week. They told me to come in and see his nurse practitioner, so I did. She sent me straight to the ER for the abscess to be drained. When the ER doctor called Dr. Wendel to explain they were going to have the on-call surgeon do the procedure. Dr. Wendel, tell them know that he would be there in a few minutes. Please keep in mind this man was on vacation. He came into my room at the ER, did the procedure at the bedside. And I thanked him for not only being a wondeful surgeon but a wonderful man. He stated he did not want any other surgeons working on his patients. He truly takes pride in his work. I wish I could leave negative stars. I chose Dr. Wendel to help me after laser left marks on my facial skin. I traveled all the way from Ohio after they made an appointment for me; took gas money and paid for a week's hotel stay and drove all the way from Northern Ohio to Nashville and then found out they cancelled my appointment because they are 'too scared to treat me'. They said they left me a voicemail but my voicemail isn't even set up to get messages. They decided to screw me over AND THEY NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT MY SKIN IN PERSON! So rude I cried. I had found my surgeon I could trust to give me the best possible results. He informed me I would also need a lift and performed all the necessary measurements.
