John Snyder is a duplicitous fraud. Charged me almost $1000 and never fixed problem. After swearing he could fix an 8 yr old Suzuki 150 outboard with a "check engine" code 7-5, he did not fix it and ignored all of my follow-up calls and texts. Had him install a new bilge pump but he forgot to turn on battery and my boat nearly sank at the dock from heavy rain - poor quality control. As much as I would like to recommend Dr Marine, I cannot. Evidence we scheduled some service with him and he did arrive on schedule. He looked over my generator and performed the work that I requested but noticed a more severe problem. He stated that he would need to get the parts and be back the following day or at worse, the weekend. Needless to say, he never showed up and was avoiding my calls and text messages. Great mechanic! Always busy but finds a way to fit you in even if it means coming super early or later in the day. Does not over charge for parts. Often will tell you exactly what parts are needed and gives you the option to buy them yourself. Upfront with all findings and give's multiple recommendations for solutions. I will be happy to send you text of his unprofessionalism and inability to complete what he started. And then blame me for not being done. My boat is still incomplete after dishing out over $2500. When I expressed my concern he had the audacity to try to blame me. he actually complained to me about driving. The below is a text I sent him I haven't gotten back to you because to be honest with you John, I'm really not happy with the work/progress. I explained to you what my budget is and after reviewing what is done thus far it doesn't appear as if the work will be done anytime soon. The following off the top of my head still has to be done. Batteries and cables Battery charger Trim tab switch Gauges VHF Radio Various switches don't work Speaker lights aren't connected Heating connectors Bilge pump hoses not connected Not to mention the mess. I express my concerns so he doesn't finish the work??? This was his justification for not completing my boat, me expressing my concern. Even after I paid him for services rendered He actually tried to blame me for not finishing my boat!! Again, please contact me as I will be more than happy to share my experience with him. I was in need of a marine mechanic for my Suzuki outboard and came across Dr. Marine vía Yelp! Gave a call and explained my situation to John and he was out on site early the very next day. After diagnosing the issue I explained to the Dr. that I would like to have other problems not involved with the engine looked at and fixed and he said "no problem". 9/19/2021 - Contacted Dr Marine (John) Scheduled for 9/27/2021 12:00 9/27/2021 - He called and cancelled at 8:45am. Rescheduled for Friday 10/1/2021. I already moved my schedule around 10/1/2021 - I informed my trim not working. My in-law said we should check trim cylinder first. John insisted it was the trim motor. Invoice was $180.00 for 12 minutes of nothing. John sent me all kinds of links to the Trim Motor part number.... ALL WRONG! I ended up finding the correct part. Again confirmed with John that it may not be the trim cylinder. He stated that "he may be wrong but if he is we would work it out." He didn't "work" anything out! 10/9/2021 - Ordered the part $395.00 10/15/2021 - Trim Motor received. Texted John. He scheduled for 10/22/2021 9am 10/22/2021 - 9am, no contact from John. Sent him text confirming. 9:14am, he replied he made a mistake and did NOT schedule me. Stated "give me a discount for his lack of professionalism". NEVER any "discount". I had already rescheduled with my clients twice losing money. Rescheduled 10/26/2021 10/26/2021 - He installed it, NOT THE TRIM MOTOR. Original Motor had NO ISSUES AT ALL! His response to me that morning was "I'm not going to charge you for the installation of the new Trim Motor, you can probably sell it on eBay....... Anyway, (he glanced around and said) You don't look like you're hurting anyway". Outrageous statement! So, two income, hard working adults should be okay ordering expensive unnecessary parts by incompetent, self-proclaimed mechanics? He sent me a link to order the Trim Rebuild Kit. The website was NOT working at all. 11/2/2021 - I contacted a seller out of Canada (William) that was very helpful. He sent me concise instructions on rebuilding myself. Kit ordered $90.00. I texted John the kit arrival by 11/5/2021. John scheduled me for 11/16/2021 11/16/2021 9am - John removed Trim Cylinder. Sent bill for $250.00 while driving away. Paid him half $125.00 (as agreed) rest once installed. I was not comfortable. 11/24/2021 - Text from John that he would be by 11/26/2021 to install 11/26/2021 1:30pm - John strips the first few threads on one of the hydraulic lines on cylinder. Tells me to have it tapped and leaves. He is hoping cylinder isn't ruined. Replacement cylinder is $600.00. I purchased the tap and tapped it myself! I installed Trim Cylinder back and it was leaking out of the top of the cylinder. I took pics and sent to John. He said he would try to "reseat the seal". 11/27/2021 to pick up the cylinder again. 11/27/2021 9:22am - Takes the cylinder with him AGAIN. Return in the morning. 11/28/2021 7:48am - Texted John on time frame. Stated "if not today, tomorrow" and "he would let me know" He never let me know. 11/29/2021 - John shows up with no communication. Brought his little boy. Well behaved and quiet. Not sure if it was a good idea. But I understood. Cylinder STILL leaking. Outer Wipe Seal damaged. Leaves and tells me to keep an eye on it. Still leaking! William out of Canada says the Wipe Seal was damaged AND inner Red Seal that prevents oil from coming out of the cylinder. Put in backwards. William charged me $20.00 resent 4 seals. Insisted that I rebuild the cylinder myself. John's response "Yea, that's cool man. It's all on me buddy" 12/8/2021 - Package stuck in Customs finally arrived. Contacted John. Did not respond till 12/13/2021 to come by on 12/15/2021 to pick up Trim Cylinder and seals. I told him I wanted the work done here. 30-minute job. 20 minutes to remove, 20 to put it back on. Maybe a 1.5 hour job. John's response was "Well that's how I'd like to do it" 12/14/2021 - Texted John for time. He stated "later in the day". Sent him pictures of the seals, he stated "not it". Wrong seal. It WAS the correct seal. Red one was backwards, cause of leak. John also damaged the Wipe Seal. 2 weeks went by and no response from John. No concerns, no inquiries, nothing. William kept asking me to just do it myself. Early January, did it myself. SUPER EASY!!! Multiple pics of damage from John. $90.00 rebuilt kit, possible $150 for installation cost me $810.00 and stuck with used Trim Cylinder. Left a mess. Oil container inside engine compartment top off. 2 screws on floor. Trim Motor Cap OFF on the floor. Disconnected charging station. Engine cap unscrewed and rattling. 1/22/2022 - I found a posting he made on his Facebook. (see pic) He immediately deleted it and texted me: So you decided to leave a negative comment on my page but last I heard I was waiting for you to order a seal. You never got back to me. It was just one wiper seal and could of been taken care of. December 16th you told me you're going to purchase a seal. It is now January 22 and i heard nothing. I cost you 125$ as I only took half. 810 is on your own doing buddy. Enjoy your new year bud I don't take the time to post negative reviews. I was lucky enough to stumble upon John with Dr. Marine right here on yelp! I needed to have the high pressure fuel pump in the VST changed on my 03 Mercury outboard. Mercury decided to hide the VST in the middle of the motor on this particular model! He was super efficient and got the new pump in with out a hitch! The boat had been sitting for about 4 years and it fired right up after the new pump was installed. He literally saved me over $1000 on the repair of my outboard compared what it would have probably cost for me to bring it to a marina to have the work done! John's rates are extremely reasonable and he is super knowledgeable and will not let you down! He is a no bs trustworthy kind of guy which is very rare to find in the marine industry!! read more

By far the most terrible experience I've had with a mobile marine service. He shows up late, does not complete his work, and has an ATTITUDE When you ask him to do something the way you want it, he mumbles under his breath. Everything he was asked to do was a delay, could not find materials, and complained that he drives a KIA. First of all I'd give ZERO stars if I could. This guy John knows NOTHING about boat electronics unless he gets LUCKY! He spent 3 visits and 3 months trying to fix my alternator on my Yanmar. He BURNED out the second one and then DISAPPEARED. When I texted him to see if he was ever coming back he told me to FIND SOMEONE ELSE. He was NEVER on time and cancelled a couple of times. Very seldom do you find honest hard working people like this. I contacted John a few weeks back to meet me to do an inspection on a used boat. John made it out on time and was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He was ready to go and started working on inspecting the boat which I finally purchased. Since then, John has come all the way down to my house to work on some repairs for the boat and share some knowledge along the way. His prices are very reasonable and he works clean and efficient. I will definitely be keeping John on my contact list for future use (in fact I just called him again for something else). Anyhow, if you need a mobile marine mechanic then you found your person hands down. Ripoff, completely incompetent and cost us over $500 replacing random parts trying to figure out what was wrong with ac. He then tells us boat ACs just aren't strong and they are not supposed to work well. We called someone else who had freezing AC pumping in a couple hours, John refused to refund us for the time he wasted not knowing how to fix boats. read more

I spoke with John on February 18 he made an appointment for the 25th at 9 AM sharp. I advised him that I would have to take a day off from work and meet him at the marina to troubleshoot my boat. He assured me that he would be there on time. On the morning of the 25th at 9 AM John Text me to tell me that he had an emergency call for a bilge pump and he was heading over there real quick and he would call me when he was on the way. Would not go back to Dr. Marine Mobile mechanic. He replaced both the high and low pressure fuel pumps on my Yamaha 115hp four stroke engine. When I put the boat in the water all the fuel lines leaked or popped off the connections. I had to go to a real mechanic down in Islandmorada and was not a cheap endeavor. Wish I would have used someone else to begin with. He was also very insistent that he get paid right away. Would give him zero stars for a review. read more

John was great. I called him and he came the next day to check out my problem with my outdrive tilt/trim. He suggested we try and replace the pump, which had been filled with bad fluid and sent the the links to order it so I wouldn't over pay! When that didn't fix the issue, he did the same with the pistons, and when the arrived, he case installed them, which fixed the tilt/trim problem. Great guy, punctual and informative, prices were very reasonable and he did great work. Very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend him for any marine repairs.
