I regret ever walking into Dr. Friedman's office. They start by having a sleep study that makes it hard to sleep and cause episodes. Once you cant use machine the surgery option is suggested. I had 2 surgeries with numerous things done during the surgeries, but made things worse. Most of the information in the chart are cut and paste never talked about but put in chart anyway. I informed Dr Friedman that these surgeries did not work. I asked if he could put things back the way they were, he agreed to fix the problem. Have no idea why I let him perform another surgery. Worse yet. Thousands of dollars for false cures. Go somewhere else. read more

Dr Friedman charged a hilarious amount of money for a nasal endoscopy that lasted literally less than 8 seconds. He also diagnosed me with sleep apnea with an unconfirmed sleep study and despite being obviously stressed and worried about my septum, which he said was 'one of the worst he could remember' he offered very little in the way of bedside manner or an explanation of any of my health issues commensurate to my worry. His appointments are very short and rushed and I don't trust this practice. His energy is that of someone who is mentally checked out and looking to pad their retirement savings. He may treat other conditions well, but don't come here with a deviated septum. read more

This doctor was listed as my care giver after I went to the Chicago ENT office located at 3000 N Halsted Suite 400 in Chicago Illinois for an at home sleep apnea test. After attempting multiple times to call the office for results, my primary caregiver was able to pull my results which stated that I had sleep apnea. I never interacted with this doctor, or any other doctor, so as far as I am concerned, he is part of the reason that I have yet to receive results one year later, and have had no follow up on treatment for my sleep apnea. To be honest- I don't even know if i have sleep apnea or not since this facility still never actually told me and I'm going based on what my PCP told me. read more

Literally the worst front office staff of any establishment I've ever seen. Look at most of these reviews, half the patients don't even make it as far as getting surgery done because they can't even manage to not screw up scheduling appointments. Encounter 1: After my initial visit with Dr. Friedman (I'll get to that later) I was scheduling my CT scan and follow-up televisit. "Ok your CT scan is at 8:10AM for the televisit we have a...8:20?" I stared at her for a second to see if a light bulb would flick on but I it didn't so I had to explain to her that since my CT scan appointment would probably take more than 10 minutes, that we should pick a different time. Encounter 2: I call to change my appointment and they sounded confused and said they had called ME to cancel cause there were no CT techs available. Complete lie. No missed call, no voicemail. For my initial visit Friedman spent about 90 seconds with me, 60 of those seconds just shoving the endoscope up my face and 30 asking me the same questions I had answered for the nurse and during preregistration. Like, I get it, not much to do until I get a scan but the entire operation just seemed like a revolving door. The nursing staff is very warm. That's my only compliment about this practice. This elderly Doctor - Dr Friedman - he lies - he told me I would feel 99% better after the visit - which he didn't do anything to help the popping in my ears. He aggressively shoved a skinny tube up my nose and didn't even tell me what he was doing and charged me $425.00 for this act. So after my second visit - still hoping he would live up to his vow to help me - he finally told to hold my nose and blow through it...like WTF this guy is a joke... This is a cash register disguised as a clinic. Totally revenue-focused. Can only speak to my own experience, but I was knocked sideways by the flagrant overbilling. Was referred here for a preventive sleep disorder treatment regimen. First and only in-office appointment was billed to insurance for $300 just for a new patient visit, plus $425 for a 10-minute nasal endoscopy during which this elderly physician distracts you with kindly, grandfatherly patter completely absent of medical information. The sleep disorder testing comprises clunky diagnostic gear, which makes you look like a 1980s cyborg, that you take home and administer yourself. (Can only assume the data recorded is worthless since it's virtually impossible to sleep while wearing.) No details on what specifically it would be measuring were provided, and the staff gives you links to web videos instructing how to use it. They insist you return it by 10 a.m. the next day (presumably you're billed even more if you miss that tight deadline); while doing so, other patients are there checking out the same antiquated gear. Sure looked like a revolving-door system geared toward profitability. Insurance took one look at the amount this clinic bills and, not surprisingly, didn't cover much of it, sticking me with a huge bill for only a partial, incomplete treatment minus any results, since I immediately cut ties and fled before they could fleece me more. That, of course, didn't prevent the bills by mail, by email, by website patient portal (which also allows for messages to the clinic that go unanswered), and the option of a monthly auto payment system managed by JP Morgan. The greed is bad enough. Worse is the shrug you get when you bail. You'd expect at least some halfhearted effort to ask why and figure out how treatment can be accommodated, since one presumes the clinic wants patients to return in the future for their ENT needs. Dr. Friedman is fabulous! I was diagnosed with Adler apnea about two months ago and was on the search for answers. I met Dr. Friedman and he did a scan of my nose and sinus area. I took the at home sleep apnea test with the mask and he concluded I did indeed have sleep apnea. I came into the office and Dr. Friedman presented me with a few options to cure the issue. I asked him what is the most permanent and what would give me the results that I was looking for. He made sure I understood all my options and the treatment plans that went with them. In the end we decided on a sleep apnea rhinoplasty. I got my procedure a week and a half ago and I can already see such great results. I'm breathing better-NOT snoring- and I am only half way through my recovery time. AMAZING! I will go back one more time for a second check up to make sure everything looks good. I am so thankful for finding Dr. Friedman. Nobody likes to get any surgery or procedures done, but to have a Doctor that cares and has your best interest is so amazing. If anyone has sleeping issues or feels like they could be living a better quality breathing life-Look NO FURTHER than Chicago ENT and Dr. Friedman. He is so friendly and kind and makes you feel at ease instantly. I literally didn't understand sleep apnea or why I was seeing these issues for my whole life. He's become a terrible doctor who has been in practice way too long. He has a huge surplus of ego and just as huge a deficit of empathy. Somewhere along the line during his career he forgot, or maybe never learned, the importance of showing such empathy toward patients. He rushes appointments as a matter of routine, doesn't listen well to patients as a matter of routine, and as a result, he risks misdiagnosing patients precisely because he doesn't listen well and rushes appointments. If you want a doctor to treat you like you a unique human being, look elsewhere. read more

This quack performed a surgery on me promising to get rid of my obstructive sleep apnea. 20+ years later my BP is crazy high and I have a feeling my apnea came back. I get a sleep study done and it sure is back and most likely has been slowly killing me for years. The surgery he performed was based off a study done by Stanford University that had since been shown to NOT WORK. Did I get a phone call, email, letter saying I needed to be re-evaluated for a life threatening condition? Nope. Not a word. Also, he was super sweet in the office but after the surgery when I called his answering service at 10 at night because I could not stop vomiting, he screamed at me and could not believe after two days I was still on the pain medicine. He didn't even address the nonstop vomiting. Why did he prescribe enough for 7 days?! I have never been treated this way by any medical professional before or since. Oh and btw, if you have a sleep apnea it's best to see a neurologist not any ENT. read more

I filled out the form to request an appointment for my son, which included his birthday. I received an email acknowledging the request and then a second email accepting the appointment request. I also received numerous appointment reminds. When my husband and son showed up at the appointment, they were immediately told that Dr. Friedman didn't take patients under 18. They knew my son's age, agreed to the appointmen, sent numerous remainders, only to have him show up and be sent away. Thats just messed up. read more

I have never experienced such worthlessness and utter indifference to screwing up my appointment. 10 days ago I made a 4:40pm apppintment at the Gross Point location. Made the appointment over the phone and detailed what my issue was with my EAR. I just walked into the office 10 minutes ago only to be told that the doctor doesn't see ear patients at this location. Shoulder shrug from receptionist, so sad too bad. Nothing we can do here. If this is the level of competence the rest of the office offers then maybe I'm better off without being seen. read more

Dr Friedman is a great experienced doctor who has pioneered many of the procedures performed in the office. I've seen him for many years and he has helped keep my multitude of sinus and sleep problems under control. I'd give 5 stars but occasionally I feel like someone in the office whisks me into the next room for some sort of test that I'm not certain I need. read more

I've known Dr. Friedman since 2011 when I first went to his downtown Chicago office. I had bad allergies, not sleeping, headaches, I was a mess. From 2011, I worked with Dr. Friedman (and Dr. Siddiqui), to treat my allergies, sleep issues, some extensive surgeries that were not pleasant (but necessary) and I can tell you I am in a much better place than I was in 2011. He extended my life for sure. My dentist made an observation about a growth in my throat and I got in with Dr. Friedman the very next day and Dr. Friedman told me everything was fine. When you see Dr. Friedman, know that you will get the best possible care and as you move forward in your journey to wellness. It is also important to do you part, be informed, discuss and backup your viewpoints and collaborate with Dr. Friedman. Dr. Friedman will ALWAYS ALWAYS listen to you (you will not be rushed when you see him) and he will always provide you with the best care. read more

I went to see Dr Friedman a little bit over a year ago for chronic nasal congestion. It was one of the worst experiences in spite of his good reviews on ZocDoc and HealthGrade. I completely agree with Collin C's review and had a very similar experience. Before I could even see Dr Friedman, I was put in the room where I had to watch 30 min of videos promoting Balloon Sinuplasty procedure that he performs. After he finally came to the room and barely asked me what the problem was; he said he needed to do endoscopy. Fine. It took five minutes and he left. He also had me do the smell test and allergy test. Everything came back normal. For some reason they couldn't read the results of endoscopy and I had to come back and do it again. I was charged TWICE for that procedure and since I have deductibles, I paid almost $500 for both. In the endoscopy results, he didn't see anything. Next thing he sent me for was CT scan. In the CT scan, he didn't see any excess mucus, but he recommended Balloon Sinuplasty surgery anyway, even though their site says "Surgery isn't your only option for chronic sinusitis." Between both visits I got maybe 10 min of his time and that includes endoscopy where he wasn't even talking. I feel like money was all they were after. read more

We had a very good experience with Dr Michael Friedman. He saw my husband in February last year and did 2 biopsies on 2 nodules on his neck. Biopsies came back inconclusive, he then ordered Ultrasound and CT for him. After the results came back, he told us he would like to take those nodules out as they are suspicious looking for him. So May 23rd, changed our life forever, my husband had surgery with Dr Michael Friedman and sure in off, 1 week before his 36th birthday diagnose with Thyroid Cancer. Dr Friedman was there all along this difficult time, explaining everything for us. We have his cell number, where I can ask him any questions I have via text or call, and he gets back to me right away... we recently changed insurance and got the BCBS PPO just so we can continue to see him. He is truly a wonderful doctor who cares for his patients. read more

Dr. Friedman is running a business designed to maximize billing, with little regard for patient outcome. Went to him for what I thought were chronic sinus problems. First appointment, discussed basic information about my health with his assistant and he gives me a nasal endoscopy. After failing to do one side of my nose he said things didn't look good and that he needed to perform some tests to figure out what was going on, no real exchange of information beyond that. Sent me in for an CT scan down the hall and tells me I need to schedule an appointment for allergy testing (even though this has been done before) and then another appointment to come back for my diagnosis. I asked if I could combine the allergist and the diagnosis and he said it wasn't possible because they don't work on the same day. Morning of the allergy test, the clinic called to reschedule. Came back, did the allergy test, confirmed once more that I am not allergic to anything. The doctor ended up prescribing me a nose spray she didn't even mention anything about. Found out about it in the next appointment when I was asked how it was going! The appointment where I learned my diagnosis was a week later with Dr. Friedman. Again, a few days before, the clinic called to reschedule. Dr. Friedman was not available for another 2 weeks. I was in the middle of a sinus infection from hell, didn't matter. So I come in to the final appointment, was kept waiting for an hour in the waiting room. Dr. Friedman finally comes in and jumps right into how I need surgery to correct a deviated septum and how much time I need to take off work. He hadn't really explained what the issue was and why this was causing my chronic sinus infections and so I asked for a better explanation he rushed me down the hallway for another sinus endoscopy - I guess to reacquaint himself with my case and bill my insurance another $500. He then said we could maybe get away with some nose spray but that I needed to reschedule another appointment because his nurse who is the only one who can do the nose spray is out of the office. At this point I bring up the fact that he rescheduled twice already, kept me waiting an hour and that I didn't know if my job could afford me continuing to visit his practice! To make up for things he offered to cover the cost of my copay ($45) for that day. A week later, I then get a bill in the mail for that $45. I call the billing department 800 number from the bill and the lady said that she was not able to get in contact with Dr. Friedman and that I needed to write a dispute letter to a PO Box! I was pretty outraged and called the office reservation line and left a message with Dr. Friedman about the situation. His office manager said she would waive the fee as a one time courtesy! Thanks again. At this point I'm done with Dr. Friedman, I ended up going to get a second opinion from the most reputable hospital system in Chicago, paid extra because it was out of my network. The good news is that they said my sinuses were in perfect health and that the surgery Dr. Friedman recommended would have in no way helped me. He also said that he has seen quite a few of Dr. Friedman's patients and from the sounds of things, I dodged a bullet. read more

I was supposed to have a growth removed in my mouth back in May. Unfortunately, I lost my insurance. I finally get it back in August so I called to schedule my surgery. Dr. Friedman has to reevaluate me first. I used to be able to see him on Tuesdays. Tuesdays and Saturdays are my only day off. Now all of a sudden I can't see him. I asked what am I supposed to do because this is a cancerous growth that needs to be removed. They asked me if I could take time off work and come in. I live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to miss any time. They could care less about patients. Guess I'm just going to have to die. read more

DO NOT BE TRICKED with reviews on Aetna or Zocdoc. Very bad experience. I wonder why he is very poorly ranked on yelp and google reviews, but not on Aetna, Zocdoc. Anyway, here is my story: Years ago, I was told by another doctor that I have a deviated septum and I should do surgery one day. I never paid attention until now. So, on Aug 16th 2018, I went to Dr. Friedman to see what's up with my nose. I thought he is good because of his years of experience. Firstly, he will do any unnecessary test to increase your bill. He first put a camera (nasaloscopy?) in my nose (very unnecessary, I visited another doctor and he just used a mirror and looked at my CT scan results that is much more informative). Dr. Friendman then asked for CT scan and allergy test (btw, I declined to do the allergy test). After looking at my CT scan results, he came to the room after making me wait for 2 hours(!), and told me that my nose is very bad and I need a surgery. That's all what he said!!! (Cool, but I knew from day one that I need a surgery!! I expected more information. ) Dr. Friedman didn't provide any other explanation. He didn't even mention if I have sinus or deviated septum or anything. He didn't not show me my CT scan results. He just said I should do a surgery and left me alone with a surgery coordinator. My Aetna charge was $1000, which is basically just to know "I need a surgery" and nothing else!!! (And yes, he was in-network for my insurance) You know what is worse!? ChicagoENT itself is the second problem! I asked for my CT scan results from ChicagoENT office so I can take it to consult with another doctor. The process takes 30 days to give you a copy of your medical records (e.g. CT scan) !!! So you may need to wait 30 days to get your CT results if you decide to visit another doctor and show it to a new doctor. This is ridiculous. That being said, the costs that this doctor charged through my insurance were out of this world! So sad and unfair when a doctor makes you do many tests, makes you wait 2 hours (literally 2 hours), and provides no explanation about your condition, and just says: pick a date for surgery. read more

Dr. Fredman is fabulous! I was able to schedule appointments very quickly and at times that worked very well for me. My wait time upon arrival at the office was almost non-existent. Doesn't even deserve a star. My daughter went to see the Doctor for tonsillitis , A nurse comes in the room and proceeds to numb my daughter's nose and throat so a camera can be inserted to look at the throat. We HAVE NOT EVEN SEEN THE DR YET AND A PROCEDURE IS ABOUT TO BE PERFORMED. When the Doctor comes in he is being shadowed. He doesn't introduce the person who is shadowing him. He then announces that she doesn't NEED THE CAMERA INSERTED AFTER THE NURSE GAD NURSE HAS NUMBED HER NOSE AND THROAT. Then he asks my daughter to open her mouth and begins scraping the back of her throat with an instrument. HE DOESN'T TELL HER WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO, HE JUST STARTS SCRAPING HER THROAT. Then he says there's nothing he can do for her and she either has to live with it or get your tonsils out. HIS BEDSIDE MANNER IS HORRIFIC! This was her first visit to the Dr Friedman, he barley spoke to her and never asked her any questions. It was literally the worst Doctors appointment she has ever had. read more

This is a doctor that is focused on himself, his image and billing. If for some reason you decide to go to him please make sure you know what he is recommending and that you are sure that what he is recommending is the right thing for you. Go to a major hospital and get a second opinion. He did "corrective" surgery on my nose. I now have a nose that has a hole in the partition that previously separated the two nostrils. The hole will not completely heal resulting in either more surgery or a nose that will constantly be susceptible to infection. Choose your doctor wisely! read more

Before Dr. Friedman, my mom was on a road to no where in getting the care she needed. She was diagnosed with sleep apnea 2 years ago yet wasn't able to get care until we met Dr. Friedman. During those 2 years, she was sent to several sleep studies by other doctors and tried various systems that wouldn't work. After countless calls and visits, I was so lucky a friend of mine told me about Dr. Friedman and that's when everything changed for the better! We got insight and care. I'm happy to report weeks after her visit she had what she needed and her heart rate dropped to a normal level (what we hoped for). I would highly recommend Dr. Friedman.
