Cons: It seems Dr. Alwani can only handle something very typical or inconsequential. Anything requiring specialists, referrals, or medication out of her typical prescription was beyond her knowledge. I had to talk to her and advocate for this monthly medication that I know my insurance covered. Then she was trying to tell me about not being able to increase the dosage in my medication after several months (which I disagreed with). Then when she looked it up she realized SHE was misinformed and she can increase the dosage. She required appointments to meet with me to prescribe my monthly medication, yet those appointments were well after the medication would have finished?? I felt like I needed to constantly advocate for myself and I was callinger her office montly, if not more often. It felt as if the office was very much over my constant calls. Trust me, I certainly didn't like calling, but I needed to call for her to do ANYTHING. Summary: She is fine for typical stuff like the flu and asthma. If you have any more significant diagnosis, you will need to do A LOT of self-advocating as Dr. Alwani/ her office doesn't often take initiative. It is challenging to get them to work with insurance that they already accept.

They informed in in order to get a prescription refilled, I needed to schedule an appointment, however the prescription was recommended by an outside doctor. I've had the same conversation now 3 times and not one person I've spoken with has even tried to fix the problem (scheduling an appointment), but have just flat out denied my request. I made my appointment via zocdoc and the clinic subsequently called me to confirm and get my insurance information. Check in was a breeze and the waiting time wasn't too bad. I got all the routine checkups and met with Dr. Liu. She's seems extremely knowledgeable and cares about her patients. She listens to you if you have any questions or concerns. I didn't feel like she was trying to rush through the appointment like how I've felt at other doctor visits before. They set you up with a patient portal where you can create an account and log in to see your lab results. This is the first time I'm experiencing the use of such technology at a clinic and needless to say, I'm very impressed. For the followup, I was given the option of an in person visit or a virtual visit and I chose the latter so I won't have to deal with the busy streets of flushing and the headache of traffic and parking in the area. You aren't given a specific time for the virtual visit, but just a range of a few hours, since the doctor calls you when she has time in between patients. I wish that the virtual visits were more coordinated, but other than that, overall I had a positive experience.
