My Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Medicare PLUS Blue Group PPO is no longer accepted. I have been patient for 20 years and they wanted $60 from me out-of- pocket for office visit. Later I said I would pay the office visit out-of-my- pocket and office made appointment and I asked for to be given a better record of that next visit, rather than a mere receipt. I planned on filing for reimbusement from my insurance company myself filling out the form with no more of me troubling that doctor's office. I could get about $35 reimbursed i.e. so that my co-pay would add up to about $25 instead of the old $10 I paid during office visit with doctor. Later that same day I was called and told that the practitioner really doesn't want anything to do with my insurer. So in effect I was being really discouraged from filing a reimbursement form privately on my own which is my right to do so because of their dreaded concerns about my insurance carrier. I later called to get a copy of my medical history and was told by office staff that office policy is to require requests be made by another doctor. I believe it is my civil right to get medical records for myself and services I paid for, is it not so? I currently have a grievance in with my insurance about some of my experience reiterated here. My insurance has always paid timely as far as I know. And when I inquired of that practicioner and/or office if my payments were always timely I recall that I was told that it was. Now I hope my new doctor's office will be able to get those medical records for them. Just in case I requested two years of records of payments, etc., from my insurance and that's on the way to me now. I wonder about all this.
