Dr Susan Mathew was referred to me by my long time, now retired internist, Dr. Olivia Bannan. She knew my family history and all the medical issues involved, particularly my father's problems. She always recommended the very best specialists; when I explained my personal issues, she recommended a rheumatologist, Dr Susan Mathew. She said you could have the ease and accessibility of all your records in one place, and the ability to have testing done at one of their two locations, and that was perfect for me. I was extremely impressed at my first visit with Dr Mathew. She listened intently to all my issues, my family history and was very patient. She was extremely thorough, as I was have suffered multiple issues, including Breast and Anal cancer, long-term Gastrointestinal issues, Back, knee and foot pain. I would never have linked my complex symptoms together into a single diagnosis. Dr. Mathew ran all the necessary bloodwork and looked at genetic markers, etc to find the reason why I was dealing with long standing complex problems. I am a long time veterinary nurse, but when we discussed my symptoms, she explained everything and gave me a diagnosis that is not widely known. I would never have correlated all these issues into a single diagnosis. We have tried different medications, but Dr Mathew always listens to my issues, then makes suggestions and adjustments accordingly, which I greatly appreciate. One of my coworkers began to suffer with similar issues, and I recommended Dr Matthew to her. She was equally pleased, after her diagnostic testing and remains a patient as well. A few months ago, I became a patient of Dr. Susan Mathew's and I cannot say enough good things about her and her staff. Dr. Mathew really listens and is incredibly empathetic. She discussed my health history and explored the symptoms that I've been experiencing, ultimately offering multiple alternatives for ways to address my health issues. When one alternative was cost prohibitive, Dr. Mathew and her nurse helped me secure a different alternative, going out of their way to do so. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Matthew. I have a very rare form of Mitochondrial Disease and I have had Arthritis since I was 12. I have seen many doctors but no one knew what was going on and no one helped me with my Arthritis. I had terrible pain and swelling in my joints and could barely even hold a pencil. Doctor Matthew identified the problem and gave me a solution. She even diagnosed my skin condition that I did not even go to see her for but was apparently also a symptom of my condition. The medicine she gave me worked well but did not completely solve the problem. She offered a different medication that would greatly improve my life but was unsure if my insurance would cover it. Her staff fought with my insurance for over a month but finally was able to get me the medicine to further relieve my pain. I can now type, write, cook, and do all of the things that I thought I would never be able to again. Dr. Matthew is a life saver. Four of my other doctors are a part of Hill Croft Medical Group, so when I needed a rheumatologist I thought I would see Dr. Mathews since her reviews were so good. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience as others. Upon arriving at my appointment I checked in and was told that I had to fill out the same exact paperwork that I had already filled out. Mind you at Hill Croft there is a central data base that every doctor can see which has all your medical information. Due to issues with my hands it's difficult for me to fill out all the paperwork. I expressed to the young woman (somewhat irritably, but not yelling) that it was ridiculous to constantly have to fill out the same paperwork by hand and that putting it online would be appreciated. Upon being called back by the tech (who was wonderful) I had the usual vitals taken and once done proceeded to wait for the doctor. After a few minutes, she entered and took her seat. No "Hi, My name is Dr. Mathew." No pulling my record up or looking at the appointment sheet to see why I was there. Instead, she looks at me and says "Why are you here?" I explained to her that I have Fibromyalgia, as well as, arthritis in my hands, feet, and hips. She looks at me and says "What do you want me to give you?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. No, "How long have you had these conditions?" "What symptoms do you experience and how often?" Nothing. I told her I wasn't the doctor and it wasn't my job to tell her what to give me. After we exchanged a few more words, I decided I'd had enough and was leaving. Before I left I told her exactly why I was leaving and she gave me a couple of ridiculous excuses. read more
