I'm very disappointed with what was already an iffy relationship. I had two no shows and was warned a third would prevent me from being scheduled by appointment. I understood, explained the reason for my no show and scheduled. unfortunately for me I've been transitioning in insurance coverage so when I wasn't sure about my insurance I called and canceled and explained again why. 1. I scheduled an appointment online and without fault of mine was informed that my appointment couldn't be kept and if I could come in at a different time. I agreed. 2. I was then informed that I had three no shows and would not be scheduled. I corrected them, told them I was made aware of their policy before and that's why I had canceled my third appointment, so it would not be held against me. They didn't care and told me I could walk in without appointment and take my chances. I told them to forget about my future business with them. 3. When it was their system at fault for my needing rescheduling I did not hesitate to accommodate them. 4. When it came time for them to listen to me and admit their evaluation was wrong they completely disregarded what I said and refused to schedule me anyway. First off, this is for the Muncie, Indiana, McGalliard road location. Kind of a tough one. The staff at this place were pretty decent. Very kind. They even knew I'd be buying my glasses online and they gave me no grief at all about it. Just tried to educate me on what to look for. The Optometrist, not so good. I know with COVID we need to wear masks, I get that. But when I can't get one test done without it fogging up the test lenses, that is a problem. No solutions were offered to me, just eventually he handed me a qtip and had me clean the testing lenses every single time. He pretty much only wanted to give me a Progressives option, and when I asked for Computer intermediate measurements he struggled with those. Ultimately he gave me a VERY wrong prescription which led to me buying glasses that are totally useless to me. The unfortunate part, beyond him, is when I called Dr. Tavel's to inform them of the mistake, they wanted me to bring the lenses over to ensure that isn't the problem. Even though I explained that I've been tracking my prescriptions for 8 years and this was a more radical change than all 8 years combined. I went to another Optometrist in Muncie, my usual, and he got me taken care of properly, and got me the correct prescription. I'd love to say who that is, but if I do then people might discount it as me just doing this to advertise for him. I want people to know the truth, with no ulterior motives. I didn't ask for a refund and I won't. Not worth the hassle, but hopefully this will be helpful to anyone in Muncie thinking about going here with the idea that they can be seen sooner. Don't let my mistake become yours. Be patient and find someone who will take time with you and do a good job. read more

We were visiting family, when we discovered that my daughter had forgotten her contacts. It was Christmas Eve morning, and 2 other companies had told us they couldn't help. Once we obtained her prescription from our home doctor, they were able to help us immediately. Thank you for saving Christmas! *** UPDATE *** Dec. 28, 2010 This is an update to my horrible experience in response to comments from Dr. Tavel's office. (1) It took over TWO MONTHS to get this resolved. My husband placed 10 calls, we visited the store 5 times, and he sent multiple messages to contact@drtavel.com, BEFORE we filed with the BBB. He asked to speak to a manager 6 times and NEVER received a call from a manager. Even after they refunded the glasses, they tried to get out of refunding the eye exam by saying that it was a "professional fee" that could not be refunded. It took a second complaint to the BBB to get a refund for the eye exam. (2) The prescription for the glasses was completely INCORRECT. He had his glasses and his eyes checked by Sears Optical, and found out that EVERYTHING was done incorrectly. The prescription was wrong in both eyes. The inter-pupil distance was wrong. The base line curvature was wrong. They was no treatment for his astigmatism even though the old glasses had it and his eyes needed it. read more

Horrible experience with this company. Took months to get my glasses kind of sorted out, as the lab they were using appeared incapable of producing my prescription, or at least the same prescription twice in a row. After the 4th remake of my spare pair of glasses I was told they would do no more remakes because it had cost them too much money to remake my glasses so often. Office staff were very nice, but the product was a waste of time, effort, and money. read more

I loved visiting Dr. Tavel. He is a very in depth eye exam with me and did extra treating at my request since there are a few eye diseases that run in my family. He managed to correct my prescription for both near sight and far sight. In addition I was given trial contacts and got new prescription glasses and readers to wear while I am in contacts. The two women at the front desk are very kind and personable while the lady working the glasses center was rather pushy and rude. I didn't let her demeanor get in the way of a good visit. I highly recommend this office. I would just suggest asking for the lovely girls at the front desk to help you over the lady working the glasses counter. read more

I felt like I received a thorough eye exam by Dr Jones and he answered all my questions. The entire staff was very professional and helpful. When I picked up my glasses, Chris did a great job adjusting them. I highly recommend them. A very friendly group of people to interact with. And I love my new Coach glasses. read more

I came in to pick up my glasses and was given someone else's glasses. When I went back an hour later and received my glasses the prescription was wrong. The anti glare coating scratches so easy that after a year they are useless. read more
