The kids event start in the mid afternoon, and include the full New Year;s Eve countdown treatment at 7pm (12 midnight on Greenwich Mean Time) with the acorn drop and fireworks display. Ever wanted to be in a parade? You have your chance with the people's procession. Lots of paper mache animal heads and shapes are made available for use in the parade, or be one of the many walking the huge puppet named Rhea down the parade route. New for this year was a phone app that made it much easier to see what activities where happening at any particular time. Do be aware this is a popular event and can get VERY crowded, especially at the main stage for both the 7pm and midnight acorn drops. Traffic and parking can be quite difficult, especially for those not used to downtown parking. I have been many times since this event started iver 25 years ago. I have always found it to be an enjoyable way to bring in the new year.

As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and Black History Month, this was a unique event. There were 2 guest DJ's who spun old school hip hop throughout the event and a DJ who spun a live score throughout the entirety of the film. It was refreshing to see so many people of color come out to this side of town to gather. There was merchandise being sold in the lobby and food trucks such as Presto and Go Yaki in the parking lot. It was convenient for those attending this 3 hour long event. The staff kept things organized and they were kind and welcoming. The facility itself is in need of some renovations and updating. I get that this is a old historical building. I will definitely return for further programming of interest.

Although a bit pricey, you get what you pay for -- a large elegant ballroom that holds 150+ guests, a fabulous location in beautiful Cary, great food, a spacious dance floor, and an upscale feel for your affair. We generally provide some of our own customized decor, but the venue itself is lovely even before decorations are hung or added. And our event is usually a Christmas brunch. The staff is courteous and professional. They work closely with the org's planning committee to ensure successful implementation of the vision for a magnificent afternoon with family and friends. TIP: If you want to have an event here -- particularly during the holidays, plan many months in advance (we booked 12 months ahead of time for next year's holiday party).

Knights battle, bag pipes, Ariel dancers, goblins with trinkets, fairy with bubbles for kids, all the vendors are super friendly and not pushy, plenty of bathrooms with hand wash stations. Getting bigger every year from what im told and we will be back. ​

Ms. Juanita was an absolute joy to work with--her warm and welcoming attitude made our private birthday event a blast. She let us choose our own music, creating the perfect "go with the flow" vibe for the evening. Our group had so much fun that we're already planning our next visit! The bear painting activity was super creative and a hit with everyone. Being located downtown was another major plus--after our event, it was so convenient to head to the next spot and keep the night going. It is a beautiful walking course and when I'm playing by myself, I can typically play 9 holes in about 1:40. The golf course is really the difference-maker for Hope Valley, as it stands up very well to any course in NC. There was a PGA tour event here in the 1940s, so you know that the layout is strong. Hope Valley is a private club with an initiation fee. There are three levels of membership - SOCIAL (which allows you to use the pool, the restaurants and play golf 6 times a year - for a fee); TENNIS (which is social plus free access to the 7 clay and 2 hard tennis courts; GOLF (all the golf, tennis, pool, etc that you want) - and if you walk, there is no incremental charge for golf. I would say that the average monthly charge for family golf is $500, so you really have to like to play golf. If you play tennis, there are a lot of leagues and weekly events - like men's night, where the pro splits everybody up into even matches. After 2 hours of play, folks hang out and drink beer in the moonlight. It makes for a fun evening.

Kirby, one of the staff members, is simply superb. He remembers me from previous events and even had my drink order memorized. He is personable and truly works to keep the clientele happy. He served us all with a smile despite the fact that he had his college calculus final the next day. You honestly would not know if he was under any stress or pressure. Kirby is an absolute gem giving a great customer service experience.

I was getting a few chairs ready for a line dancing class that happens every Wednesday evening when…read morean older, female staff member walked into the room interrogating me. I had taken class there many times and had seen the staff member act suspiciously similar to other patrons, but I wasn't prepared for this interaction that left me never wanting to set foot in that establishment ever again. After her unnecessary interrogation, which I tried to politely respond to, she left for a few minutes, then walked back into class on two separate occasions to complain about me to the instructors while I was in the same room. I was a paid customer and the instructors are longtime renters of the community center. As if that wasn't bad enough, the staff member waited until I was near the entrance, bumped into me, then directed her attention to the thermostats. There were a lot of patrons in the room, so it was quite hot. The thermostats were set to 71, but she felt the need to turn them both to 72. After raising the temperature in the room, she finally walked back behind the bar. As a paid customer who was simply volunteering his time to help set up the room for dance class, the treatment I received from this staff member was deeply unfortunate. I will never do business there again.
