12/04/2018: Front entrance as seen via Walworth Road.

12/04/2018: WOW~My circadian rhythm is so out of sync with all UK Residents; I'm eating dinner at 10:15 PM at night when it's 3:15 PM PST, i.e., NORCAL time zone, i.e., 12/03/2018! One of the Dragon Castle Staff gruffly commented-a man a little older than me, " . . . why are you eating so late?! You taking out??!" "I'm on California Time Zone!" "Besides . . . No-I want to eat at your table." The man's jaw dropped! "You should take out." I replied I want to eat at Dragon Castle. The man shrugged his shoulders and I followed him to a table setting: "How long will you be here?" "I'll be eating fast before you close at 11:00 PM, ok? By the way, what type of cuisine do you serve? Szechuan, Mandarin, Cantonese . . . ?" The man was surprised by my questioning answering, "Cantonese . . . "-he began cocking his head side ways staring at me. Within a minute, I quickly scanned the menu, ordering my meal; five to ten minutes later, my order arrived: I ordered roast duck (The man questioned-"You eat roast duck?" looking shocked!), barbecue spare ribs, congee, and oolong tea. My food arrives-the man lists the order proclaiming, "That's it!" I began inhaling the moist, mouth-watering, roasted duck, the tenderly cooked bok choy, the barbecue spare ribs were crispy and sensationally delectable laced with Housin sauce, and the rice was perfectly steamed. The restaurant staff watched me eat my meal from a distance~tick-tock-it's 10:40 PM: I guess the restaurant staff recognized I'm familiar eating with chopsticks and commented, ". . . YOU MUST COME EARLY FOR EATING DIM SUM TOMORROW, OKAY?!," the man began cheerfully smiling at me. Okay-maybe I return tomorrow-I guess? I must admit I was again, taken aback: I'm literally surprised, no-shocked the man hands me Dragon Castle's business card! I informed the man that Dragon Castle's cuisine is 1000% better than the Chefs who cooked for me in MACAU AND KOWLOON, HONG KONG! The man began beaming from ear to ear thanking me for dining at Dragon Castle and I bowed 90-degrees thanking him and his restaurant staff cooking my delicious meal! Again, the man beamed, "See you tomorrow for Dim Sum, okay?!" Whoa~Impressive!

Large Chinese restaurant on the Walworth Road, close to Elephant & Castle mainline station. It serves Cantonese cuisine and Dim Sum, and comprises a large single room divided by screens, with a raised stage-like eating area at the end. There's an extensive menu comprising lots of familiar favourites, with a smattering of spicier Szechuan style items. There's a small but interesting choice of vegetarian items and a large number of vegetable dishes suitable for vegans (there was one in our group). Portions are generous: even the spring rolls were larger than usual. So think twice before ordering too many side items. Service on our visit was efficient, but slightly brusque (they got one item wrong but replaced it without fuss). The food was good - better than average - and good value too, given the portions. Worth knowing about if you're in the area.

Wow, where has Dragon Castle been all my life. Attesting as a Hong Konger their dim sum menu is legit and as is their rice and noodle selection. The lobster I ordered was less than impressive: it was much too small and possibly previously frozen. Admittedly I was silly to have ordered that on a Sunday afternoon. Walking down from my apartment on Bermondsey Street wasn't too much of a chore. The restaurant is also just a few minutes from the E&C tube station.

Not bad for a dim sum & cantonese restaurant at Elephant and Castle. As good as those good ones in the north.

I loved their bento boxes because you can do many variety of options and pick and choose as you wish. In my case I had all proteins and few vegetables. Our office has avocados and fruits so I didn't feel that I needed that extra layer of veggies. For 9 £, or under 12 bucks, one can get a whole lot more lunch than one would get, say from San Francisco. I also found the decor surprisingly pan Asia which is neat. This is one of the approachable places you could get by Westminster Abbey, and given how sad and limited the food choices are around here, I would give it a four star - simply it's within walking distance from work and it's what you'd expect from an Asian fusion restaurant.

So, we just decided to eat at places based on where we were at. Since we were around Westminster Abbey, I looked on Yelp and saw Firecracker. It was a few blocks down from where we were, but since I was planning on going to the Tesco Superstore later, it was actually on the way. We found the door to the restaurant and walked in. The restaurant was actually down the stairs. We walked downstairs and saw more than enough seating. The place was pretty clean, albeit a little darker than expected. Not good for the Yelper who likes to take pictures. LOL! We were greeted and seated promptly. They took our order and we waited for our food. While waiting for our food, we noticed there was a room next to us that had a karaoke party going on. Being the only Filipino on earth that doesn't do karaoke, this wasn't a big deal to me. I do, however, like watching people have fun doing karaoke and it looked like everyone was having a blast. They picked some really good karaoke songs (Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, anyone?). The food started coming out now. We started off with some Salt And Pepper Tofu. It came on a bed of veggies and was topped with fried garlic and slice peppers. We devoured everything. In fact, it might have been our favorite dish. For our main course, we essentially had a dim sum meal with some noodles throw in. We had Har Gau, Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai, Pork Belly Bao, Char Siu Bun, and Gyoza. We added a little bit more with noodles, corn soup, and Kai Lan with ginger sauce. The Pork Belly was super good and it probably wouldn't been better to order a few more. The other dim sum items were good, but living in the Bay Area, I've come accustomed to eating really good Chinese food. The noodles, soup, and Kai Lan were all good, too. The entire meal, as a whole, was extremely enjoyable. Service here is a great. We didn't have a regular waitress assigned to our table as a few people checked in on us. They were all great though. Being in London, of course they had an English accent. My daughter's loved it! They kept trying to copy them. I guess they channeled their inner Peppa Pig!

Food: I reserved the vegetarian tasting menu. It was very good. Each plate was tasty, but admittedly a little forgetful. I know I enjoyed my meal, but I could not tell you which dish was my favorite. Every thing was well plated and pleasing to the eye though. Service: Service was generally good. I was seated at the bar area, understandable as a solo reservation. However, given how the dishes came out, I didn't have enough space most of the time for the dishes. The servers and such were all nice and knowledgeable. They were trained well. My main server did stand uncomfortably close to me a few times to describe my meal. He also asked pointedly why I chose the vegetarian option that evening. He seemed bothered when I said it was because I was vegetarian. However, even with these minor details, it was still good service overall. TL;DR - a michelin take on Chinese food that was tasty with decent service.

It wasn't tasteless, I heartily would have preferred that. I'm not sure what the "chicken" that I ate actually was, but I am actively convinced it was either pigeon or cat. No amount of ketchup, which is what the "sweet and sour" sauce was, could disguise the fact that I was eating flesh from sort of animal possibly undiscovered by science. The service speed is also very fast. There was a ~10 min wait to get in on Sunday afternoon, which isn't too bad at all.
