With that said, I like the appetizing clean herby flavor of the base broth and regardless if you are having white or red meat with it, the freshness always stands out. I am no chef but it seems to me that this is a case where you can't have too much herb in your soup. The space is a bit cramped and service is soso - considering that there are only a handful of tables to wait on. Nonetheless, this is still one of places I'd go to whenever I want a steamy bowl of soup.

I had a lemonade (the best in a while) the fried calamari and stuffed chicken wings. My two year old had the fried rice egg roll. Service was a miss as we had been seated for about ten minutes while our server bussed the tables. Once she was done and only because we had motioned her over dos she take our order. The place has air conditioning which makes it a plus as you try to get out of the heat. Seating is super tight which makes it a bit hard to navigate when the diner gets busy. Place was 4 stars at best, but it bad to knock a star off due to the slow service and items that were on the menu but not available. Give this place a try, hopefully you'll get better service than we did

Ling Nam is on the good side of my imaginary Chinese food spectrum. They've been around since the 1950's so that should show how good my food decision-making skills are. In the Philippines, if you don't serve up good food consistently, your restaurant will most likely close in less than a year. Having stood that test of time really means something, even more so if you are in one of the most cutthroat cuisines. Ling Nam favorites include the signature Beef Wanton Noodles. It's a great meal any time of the day. I love how they serve it piping hot. They are very generous with the meat portions, too. This is best paired with their famous asado siopao for a light meal that could be shared by two. If you're not in the mood for hot soup, try their sautéed noodles instead. The Hofan is very flavorful and it comes in different versions (chopsuey, beef, sate beef and sate). If you're more of a rice person, try the best-selling Sweet & Sour Pork. These little morsels of battered and deep-fried pork are coated in their special sweet and sour sauce which has just the right balance of the contradicting flavors. It has pieces of pineapple, bell peppers, onions and carrots too that give it varying texture and really just a great meal.

I'm such a sucker for all-day breakfast foods - and this certainly was an all-day breakfast, since I ate it at something like 10pm since Midnight Madness was going on. The chicken tocino was just the right amount of sweet, and cooked to just the right amount of crispness at the edges that I like. I found it a little weird that a Chinese restaurant offered all-day pinoy breakfast meals, but who cares! All breakfast is good breakfast, am I right? And it was pretty good to boot. The mango sago dessert was heavenly, especially after a blisteringly long, hot day. The waiters were also very nice and helpful, refilling our teas and waters often, and I love it when a restaurant has excellent staff. The interiors are very cheery, if not a little bit tacky, but a pretty okay Chinese place to eat nontheless!

IF YOU REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM THIS REVIEW, IT IS THAT YOU MUST EAT THIS STEAMED BUN WITH EGG YOLK PASTE! It starts off as your typical dessert siopao bun, but when you bite into it, you get a burst of creamy, yellow, salted egg yolk sauce. Heaven! Remember to let it cool a bit first, I almost burned my tongue! :D We also had the Xiao Long Bao (P228) and the Shrimp & Pork Siumai (P298), which were also quite good, but the Steamed Bun with Egg Yolk Paste is the one I am recommending to everyone I know!

Modern Shanghai is totes one of the places that offer a lot of Chinese food. What's sad about it was that I've been hearing bad reviews about it but as for me, it's been a great experience. You may hear people complain about the long wait to get their food served but I think it's a usual thing for Chinese restaurants. It has always been a thing in all the Chinese places I've been to. I think that it's because the foods they serve really take long to prepare. I find the food a reminiscent of a typical Chinese food but I think they could've been more playful with the flavour. Their best redeeming factor is their Xiao Long Bao. I give it a two thumbs up.
