This business opened just a couple of weeks ago on the corner of Xenia Avenue - just across from the post office. The owners were still painting outside when I visited. This store is exactly the image of Yellow Springs - cool items from around the world, owned and operated by local owners. Star is the owner and she was very friendly and helpful. I purchased a hemp bag made in Nepal for a metal water bottle. She had jewelry, clothing, accessories that fit the Yellow Springs vibe. Outside they had a table set up with hats, drums and other items. This is a store that should be supported. It fits in well with the culture and is just getting started. Stop by and show some love. read more

ZERO STARS if I could! Stay far away from this store. The owner's behavior was racist, disgusting, and completely unacceptable. She threw around the N-word like it was nothing, and that speaks volumes about her character. My son is mixed, so this hit especially hard. There is NO excuse for this kind of ignorance, especially from someone running a business. If you believe in respect and equality, take your money elsewhere. Racism has no place in business, period. Hold businesses accountable. read more

DO NOT GO HERE TO GET A TATTOO I went to dragon tree tattoo to get my very first tattoo. Not only was my experience there bad, even weeks after my experience was horrible. I had booked my appointment with Josh Web but when I had arrived, he was still working on a client and was set back about 3 hours so the shop owner referred me to Jesse, Josh's brother. I live about an hour away and didn't want to cancel as I had already made my appointment over a month in advance. I asked the shop owner if Jesse could do detailed tattoos which to that she assured me, ‼"honey, i have the best tattoo artists in ohio". This was quite incorrect let me tell you. Only until after I had got there, she told me they don't take card for these tattoos...made me run to an ATM across the street to get cash and spent an extra like $7 in fees for withdrawing. After an hour of waiting for Jesse to draw this simple tattoo up, I had sat down with these stencils on my arm, they looked great...as stencils. When he started tattooing me, he pulled out a shading needle. The tattoo I wanted was considered a micro tattoo and should have been a fine line needle. Had I known any of this before hand, I would have walked right out of there. What I didn't know was extremely unprofessional at the time, he HANDED ME the tattoo gun, no ink in it, to test how it felt on myself. ‼At one point during the tattoo, he raised his eyebrows and smirked when I had asked if he was high now. Red flag and I should have gotten up and LEFT. During the last "bee" on my arm, the stencil wiped off and he LITERALLY FREEHANDED IT. I have also been informed he shouldn't need to wipe that much ink off unless he was shading. I was so excited to be getting a tattoo that I left feeling happy until 10 minutes down the road I came to realize how much of a mess this tattoo even was. This was literally three smudges on my arm. I had texted the owner the situation and said "Would you be willing to discuss a solution?" She had blatantly ignored me. I texted again after I had driven up there to talk to her in person. This time saying I wanted a refund seeing she was not willing to discuss with me. AGAIN, IGNORED ME. Very unprofessional as the OWNER. A week goes by and I received a text from Josh, the person I was scheduled with in the first place. He had said he's been coming up with something to fix my tattoo and he would do it free of charge. I had thanked him greatly for reaching out to me. I didn't like the design as he turned the original tattoo into simply shadows of the bees. He wanted me to come in ASAP so he could fix it. I worked and didn't want to go back feeling rushed into another crappy design. I wanted to turn them into moths or hummingbirds and to that he said "I really like the honey bees for this design". I had gotten back to him that I would not be comfortable returning to dragon tree tattoos as I had become very wary and lost confidence. I said I would much prefer my $220 back in a cash refund. He asked me if I was sure and said "I am more than capable of finishing that for you." and "last chance." To that, I had said yes I am sure, and I had confidence in HIS work and I'm sure he could make it into a great tattoo, however I was not comfortable returning. I added to that, "I am simply asking for a full $220 refund for the work that has already been done." He replied to me with a massive text saying I had bullied and asked him to pay out of HIS OWN POCKET, which I had not, and how my bullying towards him may have to send him to the hospital. ‼NOWHERE IN ANY OF OUR CONVERSATION WAS I IMPOLITE OR BULLYING‼ He had said a failure to leave his place of employment alone would "result in a civil suit for loss of wages ($1200day) plus hospital expenses from the mental anguish you have caused..." FURTHERMORE, in his text he said I had signed a legal document.... I NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING THEY JUST SCANNED MY ID‼‼‼‼ I feel there is not much more I need to say. I will attach images of responses and what I had asked for V.S. what i got. Thank you for taking the time to read this. read more

My friend went in to get a tattoo. When we got in we were somewhat confused because earlier it had seemed like the owner would be doing the tattoo, just a weird vibe all around. After a man came out from the back who was apparently the actual tattoo artist, my friend asked to see some work he had done and he literally pulled up pinterest and was like "I've done all of these." He leaned over me at one point to change his music and he smelled of beer and cigarettes. My friend told him she needed more time to choose the design she wanted after only five minutes of entering the shop, and he said "Thanks for wasting my time, don't come back." A horrible and somewhat scary experience all around. We tried telling the owner what had happened and although she apologized she kept making excuses, saying that he was stressed about paying rent because a big client cancelled on him. Definitely a tattoo place that doesn't know what they're doing and just wants to prey on younger people who don't know anything about tattoos. Can not say this enough, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! So glad my friend didn't end up getting her tattoo here. read more

I wasn't that impressed with the store, being a local. Half the items didn't have price tags and many were one of a kind. Customers don't like having to constantly ask for prices! Too crowded, too messy and NOT what Yellow Springs is really all about--what a wanna be Springer thinks it's all about. Looks like a "take off" on Import House to me; go to the real thing on Dayton Street! read more

Liars and bad artist She claimed to be the 4th best tattoo shop in Ohio. This is a lie and a sales tactic. her little shop isn't even on the map and not mentioned anywhere. took me forever to actually find the place. they did a shitty job on 3 letters and a simi colon. they didn't want to let me choose the color, and on top of that he free handed the letters and they are not even all the same size. i now have to go get a cover up for this shitty job. DO NOT GET TATTOOED HERE! they also refused to take debit and didn't tell me this until after it was done forcing me to pay a 2.50 fee at the ATM she promptly told me walk across the street to use. she didn't say "we don't take debit" she said "i'd prefer cash". there was a random dog in the lobby not far from the tattoo area which is not closed off. He drew on the design and then promptly left for what felt like half an hour and i saw him out the window smoking. Entirely unprofessional. i will not be going back. Don't make the same mistake i did in getting a cheap tattoo just because you wanted it. do your research. my first tattoo was done at evolved in down town Columbus and i intend to get future tattoos at reputable businesses. read more

This place is amazing for tattoos, and shopping. I have gotten three tattoos done here and all three are exactly what I wanted. Both Josh and Jesse are amazing artists and are more than happy to help you get the exact tattoo you're wanting, they'll create casual conversation while you're getting tatted and they make you feel like you've known them for years, they are both super kind and awesome at what they do. On the shop end, Starr is super kind and will always have a nice conversation with you, she tells you about the items they sell and where they get them. The store has an amazing layout and it feels like you can really see everything they have to offer. I'm a Yellow Springer and shop regularly in the village for food, drink, books and a whole lot more. When its gift giving time to others or myself I always head straight for the Dragon Tree. Store owner Starr's merchandise consisting of an eclectic and varied selection of knick-knacks, curios, gifts and more never disappoints me. Her shop is a bit small but its packed and will probably have what you want. And if Starr doesn't have what it she'll try real hard to find it for you. But Dragon Tree is more! Next door is tattoo artist extraordinaire Josh Webb. His experience is extensive in so many styles; classic, geometric, 3D, portraiture, bio-mechanical, surrealism... Get the idea! I came in off the street, with nothing in mind but giving a wave to the lady at the jewelry counter, as I had a few times throughout the years on my visits to yellow springs, and by the time I'd left, I did it feeling like I'd made some good friends. This treatment was not unique to me either, Artist Josh Webb confiding that he typically prefers to create tattoos that "make people happy," for an EXTREMELY reasonable price. The seats were comfortable, everything was sanitary, and I found the aftercare to be up to my own standards, and the general atmosphere kept me entertained throughout the three hour process of receiving my tattoo. I got a tattoo done by Austin and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out. I think as in town working and my brother passed away while I was up there. I sent Austin a photo of what I wanted. He recommended a couple of changes, which I agreed with. He took his time even though it was getting late and everyone else in the shop had left for the day. I highly recommend dropping by and seeing this young man if you're looking to get some ink done. He was very professional and standup guy. Dragon Tree is definitely the place to go when in Yellow springs for a tatoo. The shop owner Star is super sweet and very helpful. I got a new tatoo and an old tatoo. Jesse did them both and they came out perfectly. I needed an additional heart on my tatoo and Jesse was super sweet, he just drew it right in. He made sure I was comfortable and talked me through the tatoo. His brother Josh is super talented as well. You can't go wrong with either brother! I'll be back in September for another for sure. Dragon Tree was an awesome place to visit! It was easy to find and the aesthetic of the place was very nice and welcoming. The shop was full of neat clothing, artwork, and many nicknacks. There is definitely something for anyone in there. Star, the shop owner, was very knowledgeable about the items in her store. There was a story behind every item. I got a tattoo during my visit by Josh. He did an awesome job! I am very happy with the result and would highly recommend to go to him. I just got my first ever tattoo done here today by Rico, and I have to rate the whole experience a 5/5! He worked with me to make sure everything was spelled correctly, lined up perfectly with my posture, and was written in a font which I preferred! This will have been my 2nd time coming to Dragon Tree for art work,and I'll definitely be back for more! The atmosphere is clean,cool,and friendly! Josh was my artist both times; Very cool and laid back,but what I liked best is how he breathed new life into the work that I wanted done. Twice now I have left in amazement! Josh Webb did an amazing job on my daughter and I's Mother/Daughter tattoos! We literally just brought him an idea and he recommended a Lotus and even added a watercolor paint splash to match the other tattoo he did for me! (which you can also in see the pics in this review) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this shop. Josh is an amazing artist and Star always greets you with a smile! The service is horrible.The place is shabby. The employees and owners were outside gossiping and smoking cigarettes. Also- the owner is super rude about who can park where in the parking lot. The owner is a scam artist and needs not be dealt with. Watch your pockets and purses. Definitely a wannabe hippie who thinks she is a Yellow Springer. BEWARE. my best friend and i came to yellow springs today and had such an amazing time here! we didn't plan on getting any tattoos but Star and Rico told us they had openings available for $80 flash tattoo walk-ins and they easily became some of our favorite tattoos! the Good artist(josh) quit, owner hires scratchers during busy season to prey on tourists, "unique" items in shop are goodwill finds being sold at triple cost, Elizabeth "Star" stardancer the shop owner takes artistic credit for her consignment artists work- also has been ousted by the rest of the Ys community for being a bad person.- the money she used to buy the store she STOLE from a old man. read more

I am absolutely thrilled with the incredible patience and professionalism shown by Josh Webb. I wanted something ultra specific and boy did he deliver! I'm disabled so that caused issues which he was very patient with. I've been to several Dr's since getting it done and all have complimented the level of detail! I had an awesome experience getting a tattoo here! My tattoo artist was very polite and worked with me on what I wanted to get done that day. The owner was very nice as well and came to check on me and chat a few a times. Everyone in the shop had a wonderful vibe and I was so happy with the finished result!! Star is an absolute angel. They got us in right away and the tattoos turned out beautifully. Their store is so cute and they have such a cool selection of clothes and even some fossils. Their dog is so sweet too, he just hung out and got belly rubs. My arm bled a bit because of my anemia and they helped me out with no problem. Definitely coming back for more ink! read more

I walked into Dragon Tree to ask about setting up time to get a tattoo, and was amazingly able to get in that day. The owner was so amazing and so nice. We talked for quite a while. Just got a tattoo from Dragon Tree Tattoos and Gifts, the most funniest people I've ever met at a tattoo shop. They did a great tattoo on my back. Cleanest lines I've ever seen. The lady at the counter was very sweet and friendly. My mom was here before and hated the two guys that tattooed here before, glad they got rid of them! I'll for sure be back! read more

This place is amazing. I definitely found my new tattoo home with all of these people. Josh did amazing work and really gets into the creativity of making any design a custom one of a kind piece. If you're looking for quality merchandise and tattoo artwork, this is your place! They take walk ins if available, and are very very friendly people! Ms. Star was such a joy for my friend Logan and I to talk to, and Ms. Caroline is absolutely amazing at what she does. Will be coming here for various needs from now on! read more
