I was very disappointed with Drake Dental. I had been going there (Centre St. Portage) for cleanings and a couple fillings. I had a bridge come loose and fall out. I called and got an appt. within a couple days. I saw Dr. Mallory who was new to me. He looked at my bridge and my mouth. He determined my bridge was broken and could not be cemented back on. His treatment plan was almost $6,000 out of pocket. I got a second d opinion from another dentist who said the bridge was not broken and cemented it back on. There was no charge because insurance covered it. Needless to say, I have found a new dentist and will not be returning to Drake Dental. read more

Drake Dental policies are set only with the owner's best financial profit in mind but not the patient's rights and/or real needs. The only contact with questions about services or trying to negotiate imposed unnecessary services is exclusively through the staff taking phone calls and, repeating, like a broken record, that these are the policies of Dr. Khaghany and nothing will change. In short, her way or the highway. On May 27th, during my regular cleaning services, a small cavity was found by the hygienist and later confirmed after a full mouth X-ray evaluation. Before the X-ray, I was assured that the procedure was necessary and fully covered by my dental insurance. I asked about that not once by twice to make sure my understanding was correct. A surprise came when I was presented with a bill and additional payments. It turned out that four different X-ray pictures were taken but only two were fully covered. A greater surprise came when I wanted to scheduled an appointment to get a needed filing for the tooth with cavity. I was informed that I must take a panoramic X-ray, required every 3 years (?) and pay for that in full before I could get any new service, including the now very much needed filling. There was no way to negotiate to get the filling now and, possibly, the panoramic X-ray before my new October scheduled cleaning. I was denided that which I find very unethical, unprofessional and very wrong. I have to quickly find a new dentist to get very much needed filling now when my cavity keeps deteriorating. read more

Unethical billing and operating practices- they will do any unnecessary service that they think your insurance will pay, do it poorly, and if they were wrong and the claim is denied they will swap that $0 estimate you signed for a hefty bill. However they are not current with their info on insurance which cost me half the bill last year and 90% this year thus I'm getting a new dentist. Doublechecked with them as to who they were participating with this year and was told incorrectly about amount secondary insurance would pay, they were very wrong, again. Pros: staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They also do wonderful work and appointments are punctual. The buildings for both practices are beautiful and state-of-the-art. Cons: every single bill we've had for the past 6 years needed to be checked, called, and corrected -to the point it seemed suspicious. We were mislead quite a few times on extra charges that were not necessary regarding the most expensive x-rays, doctor visits, etc. Every appointment felt like we were getting swindled and pressured with regard to paying for extra services -the practice is gorgeous, but they nickel and dime for everything. Ask questions always and check your bills. We liked both practices for the most part, but got sick of having to check/correct bills and we also didn't care for feeling pressured and misled. read more

Being a newcomer to Kalamazoo, I visited a few dentists looking for top service. The phone conversations for questions and appointment were on the edge of rudeness if even picked up. The dentists were inaccessible. When I chipped a front tooth, the same day crown was a hassle of delays. I thought the work was sloppy and four years later it fell out. Horrible experience-beware! This office bled my double coverage dental insurance dry with unnecessary devices (occlusal guards) and procedures (additional crown on top of permanent seal) just to see how much $ they could get. Then, when that was done, they handed me a false estimate for $0 for sealants for my three kids. I only agreed due to the $0 estimate. Turns out, it wasn't allowed by my insurance and they turned around and handed me a bill for hundreds of dollars. When I stated this was unethical and dishonest of them to do, they turned me over to their lawyer. Oh! and my crown popped off when I was flossing. Don't ever have to change an appointment with this place. They charge you unnecessary late fees and then send you to collections over their late fee. Additionally, they can never make an appointment with you for a 6 month cleaning, they generally book 8 months out because their books are so full. So it's strange that they feel the need to nickel and dime you when your schedule changes--they have plenty of people they should be moving up to a 6 month cleaning. read more

My Delta Dental is thru my Advantage insurance plan not a separate Delta plan. I even called Delta who confirmed receptionist is wrong. I had the great dental hygienist when I went in the first time, she was very professional and kind. She did a great job explaining things to me as well as cleaning too. Hmm, the second time I went back... the dental hygienist wasn't professional at all. I could hear her whispering the conditions about my teeth and she actually scoffed, I don't know if she is unaware or she purposefully did it. She didn't even do cleaning well. I was in an out in less than 15 mins! I have to blame Myself for moving the date for the second appt since i was away. Had I not moved the second appt, I'd have been with the same professional dental hygienist from the first time. The dentist was very nice as well as the front desk too. The inside is well maintained with stocked hot and cold beverages such as water. Note to self: request for the professional dental hygienist from the first time for my next appt! read more

If you wanna see how a thief could be a dentist in the same time just visit this place. Don't be tempted by their fancy place or equipments. BE AWARE! They have destroyed my roots canals because of their cheap work. They've told me that 3 of my teeth need crowns. 4 months later, 2 of them need to do roots canals!! Don't think they'll try to fix their problem, no! They won't blame themselves at all! They'll refer you to a root canal specialist and of course you will pay for their faults! Then they'll ask you to come back not for replace your crown with a new one, of course NO! They will be settled with filling the root canal's hole and you'll PAY for it again :). By the way, I discovered later that 2 of my friends had the EXACT same issues!! So, I knew that my teeth didn't need crowns at all. It's just their way to get your money when your teeth need just a filling! In short, if you like yourself, your family and your friends just STAY AWAY from these low down dentists. I love Drake Dental! I had not been to a dentist in 6 years and was very nervous about going back. I chose Drake Dental because of all the amazing reviews they had. My first appointment they asked me if I had anxiety about going to the dentist, which I do. So the whole appointment was amazing and they took into account my previous bad dental experiences. They show you around and let me know everything they were going to do. I've had two cleanings and both were amazing and easy. Ashley the hygienist is very nice and lets you know what's she is doing and any trouble spots in your mouth. I have met both doctors and they were both very nice. Great service and really friendly staff. I needed a crown and they had a cancelation while I was in the office so they got me right in.

So I never had an appointment with Drake Dental. And I never will. Essentially, because I work retail, I had to call the office to try and reschedule at the last minute. Now, I understand that there is usually a 24-hr preference for cancellation, however, this is retail, so I was asked to work after Drake Dental had already closed and I couldn't call them until the next morning (a half hour after they opened, and 2 1/2 before my appointment). While the woman on the phone was cordial enough, when I apologized and explained what had happened, asking if I could reschedule, she immediately asks, 'When do you work?' A bit intrusive for a dentists office, but I didn't mind. Then, she says that to cancel OR to reschedule, their office needs 2 business days notice. Otherwise, she needs me to pay a $50 cancellation/rescheduling fee. That is possibly the most shady thing I've ever heard. So people never need to reschedule at the last minute and you're just going to try and hold them up for 50 bucks and have them give you their card information over the phone? I am lucky I was a first time patient and hadn't ever given them my card information or I have no doubt they would have charged me no matter what I said. Furthermore, as I am busy at work, they call me, over and over, several times. I realize canceling at the last minute is shitty, and I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have to. But the way they deal with it is shady as hell. Beware of this place. read more

I seriously considered taking a day off of work and going back to Kalamazoo just so I could go to her. She and her staff are always friendly and do excellent work, plus the office is posh. Drake Dental has a wonderful curb appeal, and wonderful dr's and wonderful hygienists, but the office staff especially the manager ruins it for all of them. My son received his first cavity filling @10 yrs old, and my old dentist didn't charge for nitric (with my other child). When we were all done, we were charged 50.00 in addition to our copay. I was surprised and my whole family had been patients for 2 years at this point. I was "shamed" into paying the unexpected out of pocket, and in front of another patient. I was turned to voicemail when i called back to speak with the office manager (who was helping their new hire shame me) then this office manager made no effort to resolve my issue. THEN 2 days later I received in the mail a letter informing me to seek another dentist. Their office was unable to provide my family with dental services in the future. This was about a year ago. My sister and her WHOLE family was just fired by the same office manager for something that was their office manager's fault too. They are horrible customer service advocates. Everything is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but don't be fooled. This is the first dentist where in the middle of working on me, the dentist will go start working on someone else. I have had quite the problem with getting numb, and my anesthetic wears off very quickly, because I was told I can't have Epi in my shot, which I will get to in a moment. You would think if they know this, they wouldn't go start another patient. Back to the Epi fiasco. I have had extensive dental work in the past, and always received epinephrine in my shot with no problem. This was the first place where a dental hygienist gave me my shot. I think she injected it in my vein or something, because all of the sudden I felt like my pulse was racing. this place looks very nice, but if you want one on one dental care, don't come here. read more
