I've never written a negative review before but felt it was important in this case. Not only did I address management in store about this situation, but I reached out to the Customer Service email twice and was met with a complete lack of empathy, action, and responsibility both times. I came into the store several weeks ago to purchase a dress. Before finalizing the sale, I made sure to ask about the return policy on the dress knowing there was a chance I might need to return it. As it turned out, I had the dress for about a week and decided to return it after all. The dress didn't come out of the bag and was not touched, handled or worn. When I came back in store to process the exchange (the dress had the tag attached to it and was in the bag with the receipt), I was told the dress was final sale and that I would not be able to return it. I was totally shocked and explained I was in about a week prior and specifically asked about the return policy on this dress and it was never mentioned I was buying a final sale item. I also mentioned I would not have knowingly bought a final sale item since I knew there was a possibility I may need to return it (which is why I asked about the policy to begin with). The store clerk apologized but said there was nothing she could do. I asked that she speak with her manager to find out if any exception could be made. She did so and returned and let me know that they could not offer a refund, but would make a one time exception for an exchange. I was so grateful. I let her know I'd come back to set up the exchange and I came back within 48 hours (as she told me to do). When I came back, another manager on duty let me know that although they had promised an exchange two days before, they actually would not honor the exchange they had offered after all because the dress "Smelled like detergent and looks like it shrunk." I was so taken aback I didn't know what to say. I assure the manager time and time again I had absolutely not touched the dress. It was in perfect condition and hadn't left its bag. I told her I had no idea how it was possible that my dress had somehow shrunk unless the product was defective to begin with (in which case, I should have absolutely been provided an exception to return or exchange a damaged product that had made it to the shelf). She said that was impossible because the dresses all came from the same manufacturer. (I also found this ridiculous because it is absolutely possible for a product to be damaged by a manufacturer even if others of the same product are not damaged, but this is beside the point.) I maintained I had not touched the dress and asked that they please honor the exchange they had offered to me not 48 hours before. She said she was sorry, but that there was nothing she could do because I had clearly damaged the product. I could not believe it. I was literally being accused of lying in front of a manager and in front of other shoppers. I was accused of damaging a product and attempting to return it in damaged condition. I've never been put in this situation before and I can tell you it didn't feel great. I left the store so upset about the loss and that I had paid for and could not be refunded for a dress in perfect condition, that I had never worn and that I would never wear. If this was a $20 dress, I would have still been bummed but would have cut my losses and moved on. If I had been sneaky and worn the dress, then spilled something on it and had to wash and dry it to make sure the stain wasn't visible, and then was told I couldn't return the dress because I shrunk it in the process, I would have accepted responsibility. I did none of these things. This dress was close to $100. I was never told it was final sale. I was told I could exchange it. Then I was told I couldn't. Are you catching my drift?
I hate writing this and I've never posted something like this again. However, I felt it was necessary since I was met with such a lack of respect, understanding, and responsibility when I reached out privately.
Draper James, please consider better quality control of your products, better training of your management and sales team in communication, consistency, and kindness toward guests, and please be more thoughtful in appropriate action in this kind of situation. It didn't have to be this way. I could have simply exchanged my dress as a one time exception LIKE I WAS PROMISED I could. Instead, I made 3-4 trips to the store, was told one thing, then another, then accused in front of others of lying. When I reached out via email, they simply said they were sorry I felt "misunderstood." So patronizing. It was a waste of time and money, yes. It was also embarrassing and the worst customer experience I've ever had. read more
