Ok first I want to say this was beyond an amazing experience! I have been struggling with trying to get my dreads right for months. I do have extensions and I do have soft hair.... and unfortunately I didn't go to meme to start. My hair has been falling out of the extensions and I couldn't get the loops out. On September 26, 2020 at 107 PM, I paid Dreadlocks Meme DREADLOCKS MEME Inc. a deposit 0f $189.73 for dreadlocks extensions services. My appointment was on December 17th and 18th.When I arrived on December 17th for my appointment, from 12:30AM to 5:30PM only 6 strands of dreads were placed on my head, which were covered by the deposit that I had paid on September 26th. On Friday, December 18, 2020. Meme placed 9 dreads on my head which would have been $261.00 according to what she quoted me. On that Friday, December 18th, I paid her an additional $1600.00 for her to finish the work on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Meme stated that I would need to go back two more times with the final visit being on January 19 & 26, 2020, still not guaranteeing that she will be done. She also stated that I may need additional visits. I called her on December 19, 2020 to explain that I wanted consecutive days book so my hair can be finished. The holidays were here, I had people coming out of town. I planned to be with family and take pictures. I had not seen my family and friends for almost a year because of the Pandemic and my getting my locs was going to be the highlight of 2020. she said. that she felt like I was pressuring her, and she would not be able to do so because of other bookings and clients. I do not understand why she would over book herself when she cannot finish my hair in time. Meme said that my hair was too thick and wasn't combed ... Meme didn't complained when she was doing my consultation... the same way I came to do my consultation is the same way I had my hair at my appointment. Meme played me! She took my kindness for weakness... ''Your Haitian? Wow you're the first Haitian I have met that ever been so nice'' Said Meme! On our conversation on December 19 Meme said she would refund my money ..a month later I'm still waiting. On December 25, 2020, I spoke to her assistant and explained that I had done my hair somewhere else because I did not want to wait months to finish my hair. I told her I no longer needed her services and would come by to get my money back. I do not feel that it is fair or professional that Meme should keep the $ 1600.00 when my hair was never completed. I understand that she can charge a penalty, but $1600.00 is very excessive. I have reasons to believe that Meme took advantage of me having a disability. So my case worker called her that he will report her to the state for extortion if she doesn't give my money back. DREADLOCKS MEME Inc. contact their salon attorney, and says they are waiting for their response before we are able to discuss this matter any further. The expert loctition, she knew a range of techniques for creating and maintaining locs including the European method of back combing with crochet needle which is my preference and creates tighter neater locs and less pain than e.g. interlocking which also pulls the hair. The downside is they are expensive and no walk ins allowed. Also a lot of paper work. I gave 4 star because they are good but expensive. MIAMI is the QUEEN of DREADLOCKING First time meeting Meme. July 23, 2015 I flew in from West Virginia to have Meme do a drastic repair on my hair. More like surgery. I wanted my dreads to have a coil look. This African lady from columbus ohio interlocked my dreads causing me to give birth to twins and triplet dreads. I had to pull them apart. My 5 month old dreads went from coils to knots all throughout my dread. Meme paid close attention to ever detail of what I was asking for. She uses the coil technique of enforcing the grown out dread with the new growth by wrapping the dread with the new hair from the root down the dread part that has grown out only* and back up to the root until the new growth is wrapped all the way around the dread. As a male looking for box braids with just my natural hair-- it has been a hassle looking for a place that would be able to accommodate my request without extensions.
