Dresden Park has reopened after a few years of renovation and even though I hadn't been here before that, I have to believe that it's back and better than ever. There's now a dog park which is super convenient for us on days that we don't feel like driving the additional 10 minutes to Brookhaven Park. The only downside is the parking... on a busy Sunday midday on a temperate winters' day all of the fields, tennis courts, playground, etc. were in full use. We had to park in the neighborhood and do a short walk, but at least there was a sidewalk. The nearby street that connects Dresden to Buford Highway had clearly posted No Parking signs. The dog park is a short walk from the parking lot. The paths around the park were all recently paved. There are divided sections for large and small dogs (30 lbs and under). While it isn't nearly as big as Brookhaven, and doesn't have grass (it's mostly concrete, soft mulch, and pine straw), it's still enough room for dogs to run and play. There's a little tunnel/obstacle, a few metal benches to sit on, and a really nice sun shade that will be perfect for summer or rain, and a drinking fountain. Now it's time to get more dogs there! There is a kiosk selling ice cream, churros, nachos, etc. Great for those watching all the soccer and volleyball matches. It seems that the lower fields are for more casual soccer games and are well used as indicated by the grass. The walking trail is nice, easy, and paved. read more

The park is designed with the community in mind. The football (soccer) fields are very impressive. The 2 tennis courts have a gritty surface which is great for tennis players. The playground area has lots of options for kids and the walking trail adds a great opportunity to get steps in. read more

Modest 25 acre park located a block east off of Buford Highway. So it's perfect for some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise before or after getting grub nearby. Or consider grabbing takeout and picnicking!  There's a parking lot after you enter on Bragg Street. I think I might've seen public restrooms though they didn't appear to be open. Maybe don't expect to use any, just to be safe.  Soccer is the name of the game here. Or at least that's how it seemed during my time at Dresden Park. There were organized leagues on the upper fields and more casual games on the lower fields. When I visited, the space was populated with lots of families with young children, bikers, dog walkers, and people who simply wanted outside time. The walking trails are mostly paved, though they're a little tight especially when bikes roll past you. You can kind of off-road closer to the stream.  Not too much mask wearing was happening, but it wasn't too tough to keep your distance. Dresden Park is probably more like a 3.5 for me, but I'll round up since I'm partial to parks! read more

I visited on a Saturday morning and there wasn't much foot traffic on the trail but plenty of people at the park for a soccer game. I came for a nice walking trail. The trail is not challenging at all and not long but perfect for running/walking if you enjoy going around several times. I found it to be pretty relaxing and honestly liked that the trail was short for a change. The park is well maintained and has plenty of green space for picnics/gatherings. There is a small playground for younger kids, 1 soccer field and a soccer play area. The little creek that goes along the trail is nice to walk over and take a peak. Don't expect a river or anything but it is pretty cute. A few other things that make a park worth visiting.. There are 2 small charcoal grills by the pavilion. 2 (from what I saw) water fountains that also had a filtered water station for bottles and a dog water fountain. read more

In a fit of "Well, I feel like walking and playing Pokémon GO," I drove to Dresden Park for the first time back in September 2016. I'd seen it quite often driving along Dresden Drive, always promising I'd go there to see what it's like. It was a pretty interesting walk, though I didn't take in quite as much as I'd have liked to review it. So I came back today. Driving down the way to the actual meat of the park (and the parking itself) had felt like driving down one of those long driveways that almost put the house in another ZIP code to the main street at its entrance. This time around, though, the parking lot felt closer, and there seemed to be more spaces. Somewhat comically, the driveway has a 10 1/2 mile-per-hour speed limit. How does one determine 10 1/2 versus 11? I have an analog speedometer, so I'm driving the 10. There are a number (probably 20 or so) dedicated "compact" vehicle parking spaces closest to the pavilion and playground areas. Even so, I've seen utility vans, trucks, minivans, SUVs, full-sized cars, and compact cars alike all squeezing into the spaces. When there aren't vehicles next to one another, they seem to fit fine (though, as I'd implied, none of the larger vehicles parked next to one another). The pavilion does have a grill, so this is an option. It does seem it's first-come, first-use, and they close the park at 11:00pm (so that's quite a bit of use for the day!). A main walking/running trail circles the central athletic field (which they've seemed to have closed; the city code seems to imply one needs to have a permit to use it, and they close it to all entry otherwise), and they have a secondary trail just off the park's entrance that I have yet to explore. A couple auxiliary paths come off the main trail, so one can have a good little walk and/or run (but, per code, one cannot bike on the trails) with what the park has. One piece of the trail passes by a small, scenic, shaded creek. I did hear a couple mothers yelling at their children in Spanish to watch out for snakes; that made me chuckle. The park has a concession building with restrooms in the back, but I have yet to see either open (perhaps to be when they do have games). The restrooms not being open leaves me curious about the park itself. For a park where people bring their children sometimes, it does seem (or it gives me the odd feeling of it being) -- please forgive me -- just a little bit "cruisy". This may be one reason for the restrooms not being as available as one might hope, but that's purely speculation. There was a fairly constant police presence in the park the last time I'd gone. The central field being off-limits, there is a secondary practice soccer pitch with a pair of goals. If people wish to play, this is where they have to do it. All-in-all it's a pretty cool neighborhood park for jogging and walking, as well as keeping kids occupied for a little bit. There aren't many amenities like larger parks, and the closed restrooms seem to keep one from planning too long an excursion there (except for possibly when they actually have events). A recent news alert on the City of Chamblee website ( http://www.chambleega.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=365 ) seems to indicate they may have more things to come for the park with some nearby land they'd annexed, so we'll see. read more

You might think Buford highway is all about Asian, Latin and other authentic restaurants with great flavor...but have you checked out Dresden Park?? Okay, okay, it's not exactly on Buford Highway, just sitting one street over at the intersection of Dresden and Bragg, but the neighborhood park definitely serves its community well. When you drive in, you notice all of the renovations of the park. Beautiful big trees line either side of the entrance to the parking lot, and there's a decent amount of parking to hold several cars. A children's playground is front and center, which has a pagoda directly next to it. Directly behind and below the playground are both a fenced and open field typically used for soccer. On the Saturday that I went, the inner field was pretty full with a children's ball game along with multiple spectators, but also there were several people sitting on benches along the trails. Speaking of those trails, they are limited in number, but there are a several criss crossing paved trails that make their way around and between both fields, and even snakes up to the sidewalk along Dresden drive. These paved trails are wide enough to have a bike comfortably passing walk/runners. On those trails were benches, seats, water fountains that work, and at one point, you have a nice little creek bed that runs alongside the trail. With the recent rains, there's been enough overflow to cause a small waterfall, which is a nice surprise. Dresden park at one point used to belong to Dekalb county, but all 25 acres were transferred to the city of Chamblee earlier this year. Dresden rests in an area where residential homes are directly next to three of the four sides of the park, all with feeder trails that go into the respective neighborhoods. Dresden is a park that you probably wont get much out of in the way of hiking trails, but if you want to get a group soccer game going, or burn a few calories with a walk/run/bike ride after sampling all the foods on Buford highway, this is a nice little park that'll work great for those needs. Finally found a park close to home, with big open fields, and a creek. My dog loves water and chasing a ball. Just have to go mid aft and check around before taking her off leash to let her run. The walking trail is concrete and easy to follow, just wish there was a small sign that says what the distance of the path is. I will pace it and post what I find. read more
