I struggle to "yelp or not to yelp". And not for the reasons you may think. The selfish side of me…read moredoesn't want anyone to know about this sacred-decadent place. Because I want it to be available for just me. But I'm not a selfish person (for the most part). And I must share this life haven with those who seek a place, view and amenities that make the world as you know it - stop. We stayed in the captains quarters. And I can't imagine ever going "back". We had "happened" upon this while making a long weekend following a conference in Ashland. Hoping this glowing and deserving view earns us some consideration when the place is booked solid In the future and we make a habit of coming back again. You're welcome:)

What a find this place is! I'll be honest, it was the hot tub with a view that drew us to Mermaid's…read moreMuse but it turned out to be so much more! We also enjoyed the comfy adjustable bed with massage function, faux fireplace heater, refrigerator, and smart TV for when we wanted to stay in. John and Nancy were more than happy advise us on restaurants and local attractions though I had done exhaustive research on them already so we were good to go. We couldn't have asked for better hosts! Due to Covid we couldn't gather for breakfast but they were happy to leave fresh coffee, scones (sooooooo good!), and prepared eggs from their chickens. Seriously those scones were to die for! We had a wonderful time getting away to Mermaid's Muse and we can't wait to visit again!

Mermaids Muse - The room we had has a view of the ocean and a hot tube on the heck. Beautiful evening breeze and sound of waves. So peaceful.

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying our first week in the Maple House. We…read morepreviously lived 9-miles away for several years and found out about River Vista from out-of-town friends who would stay there while visiting. It is a rustic setting with ALL the comforts of home. The view from the deck cantilevered over the North Umpqua River can be found on post cards. There is a path leading directly below the cabins to a private sparkling clear swimming/fishing hole. Bring your goggles to see salmon and steelhead if you are swimming. Bring your fishing pole if you want to catch your dinner. If you forgot something or need groceries, the Idleyld Trading Post Deli & Liquor Store is 200 feet from your cabin door. The short driveway down to the cabins is steep. Most folks first look at it before driving down to the cabins. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

After driving for 4 hours, then heading finally to our destination, the "Madrone" house. The name…read morerepresents the madrone trees that are all over this area. The road was hot and dry so entering this home and coming immediately face to face with the Umpqua river directly outside the cabin was a wonderful beginning. We grabbed our stuff out of the car and then beer for the hubby, wine for me, and headed out to the deck. We spent a good amount of time over the days just chilling at that spot. The cabin (house) itself has all the amenities you need. It's got a rustic feel to it that Randy (the owner) then adds little luxuries to, such as robes, fluffy towels, soft sheets, bottle of wine, and even chocolates by your bedside. The bed is comfy, the place is quiet, the kitchen is stocked, and there's even a gas grill should you want to barbeque on the deck. The location has a restaurant 3 miles away which serves awesome meals even though you are in a tiny town. You are near highway 138 so you can head to all the waterfalls surrounding the area and take a hike. We went to Deadline Falls (5 miles from the house) and watched the steelhead jumping. There are eagles and other birds of prey hanging around. Crater Lake is about 70 miles one way. It's truly a lovely place to go on vacation. NOTE: No wifi and no cell service in the house. There are places close by that you can get these services but to me it would have been an intrusion.
