She helped me get the forms I needed to get filled out by my optometrist and even though I had to leave to get my birth certificate and come back she did not make me wait in line again. Very clean, easy DMV office. Currently as of 3/30/2021 , make sure to continue to go online to make appointments. NO WALK-INS. Needed to get some motorcycle paperwork sorted out and Golden DMV had an appointment right away for me fortunately. Some DMVs are booked out to June 2021. I was very pleased with the service. From my experience today , a nice lady at the door will check you in. They keep the door locked so nobody can just walk in. Your name will be on the list , they check you in and give you an assigned #. You then wait to be called (for me, about 10 minutes) and then an individual will help you from there. It's was a smooth service appointment. So far , other than the Torrance California DMV , I am SO NOT missing DMV services in California. Colorado really has nice people working at their DMV offices and they genuinely want to help you out. read more

This was the easiest DMV experience I have ever had. I had an 8:30am appointment and was helped as soon as I walked through the door at 8:21. I gave the receptionist all of my required documents and then sat back down to wait for my picture to be taken and temporary license to be printed. I was out the door at 8:38 with new temporary license in hand while the official license is mailed. The space was also very clean. This location was great! read more

Service was quick and location was clean. The woman checking people in was very friendly, but the man taking license photos was absolutely unbearable. He was "helping" two people at once, and being extremely rude. The woman at the counter next to me didn't speak very good English and he spoke to her in a manner that was completely unacceptable, I felt bad for her. When I asked a few questions regarding the finger printing, he just gave me some robotic response and didn't let me finish talking. This was at 9:30 on Monday 2/13 for reference. Staff (Jaslyn) is condescending & short with people. Notably talking down to me when I'm asking questions about the permitting process for my teen. And didn't know if he needed a learners permit to take driving classes nor did she know what was on the learners permit test. Telling me instead- well I didn't need to study and rolling her eyes. I tried to model what polite interactions look like for Jaslyn this morning. Highly unpleasant for a simple process. Lots of sighing, eye rolling and lecturing. Please do better. Unnecessarily rude. Just wanted to get clarification on a question. What is everyone's problem with working the hours posted? Got here at 4:33pm, doors locked, people still sitting behind the desks and they shut off the lights while I was standing there checking to make sure I was correct that they posted closing was at 5pm. The ratings on this location are on point! Starting with Jess at the front desk. Rude, could careless, NO customer service. Then when giving feedback to the "manager" ( long black hair) she also could care less. Just says, "well we're short staffed". It starts with a dingy hole in the wall office located at the dead end of a string of shops with limited parking and its all down hill after that. I found out a appointment is required to renew your drivers license. How am I expected to know that. So I drove 12 miles to wait in line to make an appointment to come back in 10 days to wait in line again in that miserable dingy office with limited parking outside and limited seating inside. This is all truly pathetic. The State of Colorado should be ashamed. read more

They made the process of transferring my out of state license back to Colorado super easy! I actually live way closer to the location downtown, but have been to this office when I lived in Golden and was impressed by how quick they are. Even with COVID precautions, I was in and out of the DL office within 20 minutes from the time I arrived. Highly recommended! read more

I renewed my license online and thought everything was fine. Apparently it was lost in the mail and they told me that I had to come in and get a replacement in person or be charged again. The security guy as you enter was polite, but for the most part everyone else was pretty rude. Way to keep the 'Miserable DMV Employee' stereotype going, everyone! read more

This is your government and tax dollars at work! It is also our great governor. Recent COVID closed the DMV and I understand that. I went to apply for a permit for my kid that has been waiting for several months. The permit was attained next door at the driving school because their machines were down. Then after attempting to do a walk in at this DMV (which only takes appointments) it was denied (as the guy at the front denied this, I noticed there was nobody in the office except 8 idle DMV people. They provided a website and a phone number. I called the number and was put on hold for over 4 hours and never did get through. I tried the website for every DMV office in the state of CO and found one opening out 2 weeks from the 6/5. I was surprised that every DMV office was closed or full. I ate at the restaurants next door a few times and when I walked by I noticed that only one person in the DMV office during this 2 week wait. So finally arrived on time for the appointment and there was one other person in the office. They originally told me that that only allowed 10 people in the office at a time. While in the office, I counted the 9 employees including 2 of them watching UTube videos (supervisor included). We still spent about 45 minutes attaining the permit even thought classes and the paperwork was already filled out. After that first person left, there was nobody else in the place. I casually asked the guy at the front how many people cancelled today? He commented only 5 but there were 20 some no-shows. After the permit was received, I told the supervisor how foolish this is and how I would be embarrassed to work there. I told her my experience and asked her if she thought their concept of helping the people of the state and their system was broken? She told me to contact the Governor which I did. I asked her if this made any sense and if she brought up any of the concerns of this to her supervisor. She became irate and told me that I can leave her establishment. Last time I checked it was a government building funding by the tax payers. I think that means that "We the People" own that building. Obviously I am mistaken. What other organization has an armed guard at the front door? That's telling! Obviously, the DMV is apart of the CO dept of Rev and has the same controlling attitude. SHAKING MY HEAD! read more

I moved here from Illinois a couple of months ago. I immediately changed my car plates and license, but what a nightmare! A two day, total of 6 plus hours, at the DMV, oh boy! Now, we are trying to get my wife's paperwork done, another 4 hour waiting experience today. We arrived at 8:30 am and left at about 12:30 pm. Sometimes I think if I could just walk around all day in a thong with a crossbow people would care that I was there. They'd see me sitting or standing in my thong with that crossbow and they'd think "hey, she's serious about being here, let's offer her some modicum of service." Somehow I suspect, however, that even in a thong with a crossbow, that THIS Department of Motor Vehicles would not even notice me. As it was, after waiting more than an hour to be acknowledged as a viable planetary life form with a need, the strange lispy guy behind the counter refused to even make eye contact with me. He rushed through weird questions one by one while looking everywhere in the room but at me --- and if I'd had a thong on? And a crossbow bandied about in some kind of obvious fashion? He still would not have looked. He still would not have cared. I hate all DMVs and this one is no different, no not by a sight. While my picture turned out fabulous despite my pure hate for all in the room, the experience itself warrants just one star in this Yelp review. And I'm just as shocked as you are. read more

Absolutely horrible people working here, do not make an appointment here. They wouldn't give me a license because they said my birth certificate looked a little worn. Mind you I passed an FBI background check recently with it. They did this knowing full well that I needed it to get my son his permit and it takes at least a month to get a new appointment. They did this simply because they can and have no problem being horrible to people. I'm a nurse registered through the state and they can see that in their system as well and they decided to deny me service with attitude for no reason. The people at this location, including the manager, clearly shouldn't be employed in a position to help the public when they are incapable of doing the job or being helpful. read more

Very pleasant experience! I had to do a name change because I got married. I chose the day before thanksgiving as I had a half day. I thought it would be packed, but not so! After I got married I decided to conform to convention and changed my last name. SS done, I go to the DMV here in Golden and wait about 30-45 minutes, not so bad! When I get up to the counter, however, they can't find me in the system under either last name. Huh, odd. I have all my paperwork and the guy starts typing in misspellings of my name just to make sure SS didn't mess up big time. Nothing comes up. He can only find that I once existed under my maiden name in the DMV systerm, nothing under SS. Great. He apologized that there was nothing he could do and gave me a pass to cut in line within the next week, giving me time to deal with SS. Long story short, SS really messed up and, although they "never mess up like this," they put me in a sort of limbo where my maiden-named self no longer existed, but no new version of my name was put through. It took a while for me to get it all sorted out, but even after my ticket to the front expired the Golden DMV respected it and helped me right away. They had my paperwork still in order, found it quickly, and I was in and out in ten minutes. Thank you, Golden DMV, for not being awful! read more

I walked in without an appointment, had a total of a 10 minute wait to renew my license, the desk clerk was very friendly, and I was in and out the door within 20 minutes. It did happen to be a very snowy day, and that may have worked to my advantage! I came here last month to transfer my out of state license. I walked in, pressed the button for my ticket, and as soon as it printed they called my number. I thought it was a mistake, how could it possibly be my turn 5 seconds after I walked in the door??? I walked hesitantly up to the counter and handed my ticket to the man working. He laughed and made a joke about how confused I looked. He was so friendly and didn't seem to hate his life, unlike the employees you normally see at the DMV. Anyways, I paid my fees, got my picture taken and was out the door in 20 minutes! I don't know if it's always like that, but I'm going to this location next time. And, there are some restaurants and I think a Starbucks, or some kind of coffee shop in the same plaza. So if you do have a long wait, that can make it a little bit better read more

Wow. Perhaps this is an amazingly efficient DMV, or perhaps east coast DMVs are a little slice of hell. Either way - I'm impressed. I checked in quickly at the kiosk, was attended to within 3 minutes of sitting down, and was helped by Steve, who was friendly and straight forward. A few minutes later I was waiting again for my photo, they called me by name, and I was on my way. 20 minutes tops. I came here after waiting in line for 2 hours at the Social Security office. I stopped off for a bite to eat first, expecting the time to take forever. I was pleasantly surprised! I was LITERALLY in and out of the office in 15 minutes! and I was transferring a license from another state! Very impressed! If I would have known this, I would have switched my license yeas ago - normally on the East Coast - you sit in line for HOURS just to be seen! Bravo! read more

Ridiculously inefficient when we went for a permit. First, the woman giving out tickets apparently gave us the wrong number/letter combination for our ticket. She gave him a ticket for a different service when he told her he needed a learner's permit. After waiting two hours, the entire staff except two people went on a lunch break. during the lunch break only one type of service was offered. The woman at the counter was rude and told us that "we wouldn't have had to wait if we would have taken the wrong ticket. The ticket was provided by their staff member... The place seems horribly mismanaged. Lunches should be staggered so that people are served during this time. People sitting near us were told that their numbers were called when their numbers were skipped. They were told they would need to come another time of they couldn't wait with a new number. This was after they waited for two hours. This is apparently the service our state offers us. It's unfortunate that we have to settle for such a level of unprofessional management. read more
