I went to Drovers Dog today to be the first one to write about it on Yelp ;) and I read about it last week and of course, not unimportant, because I was hungry. Drovers Dog has opened very recently and I think it is nice that Amsterdam Oost is getting more cool spots lately. I think there used to be a shortage of nice places to hang out in Oost, but it is getting better. I also love that the brunch culture is getting more popular in Amsterdam these days! Drovers Dog looks very cool and gezellig. There is a lot of natural light thanks to the big windows, the bar and furniture are made of wood and there are little plants on the tables. Outside is quite a big terrace. I love the all day breakfast concept and it is very cool that this place is opened 'till 10 PM. After having a look at their menu I went to the bar to order my things. Unfortunately they told me that it was so busy that they were way behind on their orders and that they would take no orders for the next 20 minutes and that they were very sorry. We could order our drinks now and our food in 20 minutes.. Okay, well. That's okay, we were in no hurry. We ordered a banana chocolate smoothie and a strawberry and rose ice tea. The smoothie was very nice but the ice tea absolutely lacked flavour and was watery. I do not recommend it. After waiting 25 minutes I asked if it was possible to order our food. They told me that sadly I could only order wraps because they were out on the other food. (they were out on pastries as well.) I was quite disappointed because I had set my mind on the corn fritters but ok, lets have a wrap then. We ordered a Serrano ham wrap and I choose the spicy mayonnaise to go with it and a grilled chicken wrap with hummus. I also ordered a flat white. So.. it was 1.30PM and they were already out of food. That's not really good in your opening weekend, after being featured in 'Het Parool', right? The flat white was really nice. Great coffee. The wraps weren't very special though. It tasted alright I guess but I expected a lot more of this. It also was my only option. When we came in there were people eating corn fritters, burgers, eggs benedict...and all I got was a not-so-special wrap?? mehhh. The experience was not as pleasant as I expected. It all seemed very unprofessional. The waitress was constantly searching for the right tables, service was very slow, we had to wait long and they were out of almost everything, Hopefully these were all beginners problems. I will go back in a few months to see if they have improved,. I want to be positive here! I do think this place has potential so that's why I give 3 stars. read more

I like this place a lot. First time we went, we ordered eggs Benny and the eggs were cold, but we boldly told the staff and they were super apologetic and appreciative of the heads up. Didn't happen again. Brilliant coffee and really good atmosphere. read more

I love the atmosphere here. Expansive, light-filled interior, great patio. I've had: the vegetarian wrap, scrambled eggs, coconut lime pie, espresso, ginger beet apple juice. All were delicious! I will recommend less chutney in the wrap - it was a slightly too overpoweringly sweet for me. 4 starts because one of the waitresses was slow and forgetful. Otherwise, great place, great owner. Would recommend and return any time. read more

I loooooove their breakfast! I live near by and I have to say.. Have the Drovers Dog breakfast - it is to die for! It literally has everything you can possibly imagine - poached egg (or not if you prefer your egg cooked differently) sausages, beans, mushrooms.. I can't name the whole bunch anymore but I had it 3 times now and always the best thing! Coffees are great, cakes and pies will bring you over the moon (at least that's what happened when I had their merengue with fresh fruits) and I will keep coming back there! Been to Drovers Dog several times and I have to say the burger keeps getting better and better every time I order it. My boyfriend usually tries different dishes and he always enjoy's his meal aswell, but for me the burger is just amazing. To whom ever visit Drovers dog, please try their amazing juicy burger. You will have a solid brunch experience here. I really like the way this location is perched at the meeting of two streets and a playground; it gives it a welcoming vibe from the outside and the feeling continues when you go inside. There's nothing fancy about Drover's, but the menu is an innovative and creative take on breakfast / brunch fare. I'm definitely a fan of the ricotta pancakes (although they're very conservative with the application of maple syrup). The fries / potato wedges are Amsterdam worthy. Cappuccino a bit too milky. Really great sides and small dishes (bread basket, olives, etc.) that will ramp you up towards your main dish. When I am there with my toddler, there's plenty of space for him to move around with too much bother. They have stacks of magazines there as well for your perusal. Delicious food, portion are as per value. You do not overpay and leave with empty stomach. A nice place to be in when you're in Amsterdam post, close all other shops and the fresh market. Service is great! Will definitely coming back. read more

I wanted to go for ages and we finally made it last Sunday... I LOVED IT! The service was really friendly and the food was great. We had the corn fritters, spiced fries with alioli sauce and we tried a couple of cakes (banana+chocolate=delicious!) The only small detail I disliked a little is that they charged us 1€ for a sauce refill. The sauce pot was way too small for all the fries... But overall it was a good experience and I will be back. read more

I came here through the l, "l Eat Amsterdam Food Tours," with Camille, and the kangaroo was delicious. I've never had it before and I was surprised at the flavor and texture. It was seared medium, tender, juicy, delicious. I would have never had to courage to try this on my own. The lentil salad and salt & pepper calamari were also tasty! And the desert, a rocky road Australian style was a perfect finish to a delicious meal! read more

East of Amsterdam is on its way to become so much more than it used to be. Places like Drovers Dog are really an asset for this part of town. The downunder mentality is prominantly present and thank god for that. This place really stands out when it comes to feeling welcome when you enter the door. The food and the updating menu are nice. Ah yes, we are fans! I have a good friend with whom I used to go there every weekend for a piece of pie. Those guys make the most bizarre and mind-blowing pies you could ever taste. The dinners menu vary a lot, they suggest checking their facebook profile to get updates on upcoming food feasts. Dinners are very good but pricey. So I can't afford it often. Brunches on the other hand I did quite a bit, eggs benedict or salmon scrambled eggs are very good. Generally their cooks go for very good flavour combos. Otherwise what's nice about the cafe is also it's pretty wooden bar, and generally their interior and exterior design, weird artsy paintings, and a nice quiet garden in front. Sometimes they also feature small concerts of very alternative music. The service is very friendly, and homey, and sometimes also takes a bit longer or forgets, which we forgive them out of love. Don't be shy and remind them you are there. It's very friendly for kids and for dogs. Whole families pop by. And they all know each other. Drovers dog communities vary by the hour of the day And if you sit there whole day to work, some hours are less quiet than others. read more

Upon enterence, you can read "Schittert op Yelp" listed on the door. Once you start ordering, you'll understand why. The service is quick and friendly, the menu very original and the quality of a high standard. I came here for lunch. We had corn fritters and egga benedict, which were both very reasonably priced (compared to Gs, for instance) and a lot better. I especially loved the chili jam on the side of the corn fritters; very original! Afterwards we had two cakes from their cake cabinet which were both marvelous. The only point of improvement might have been the coffee, but compared to everything else, that's very easy to forget. Will definetely be back again for more! read more

Very nice restaurant in a quiet area. My husband and I went with two friends and we all really enjoyed our meals. I had the ricotta pancakes and they were delicious, will be trying the corn fritters next. Can't wait to go back to try the dinner as well. I was lucky enough to have Charlotte as my waitress. She recommended a tasty coconut cake and was friendly and helpful in her service. This cafe is of Australian origin and they serve interesting Aussie desserts as well as Kangaroo meat! Can't wait to go back and give their exotic dishes a try. With it's excellent food, service and ambience - Drover's Dog has now become my favourite place. Also, it has an amazing brunch that could induce some plate licking.
