We'd just finished touring the Amsterdam Museum and wanted a bite to eat. There are many cafes in this area. We stumbled upon Metropolitain. Metropolitain is related to Cafe de Paris. In fact, from the street facing the Tram line, enter Metropolitain through the door marked Cafe de Paris, up a small set of steps. Cafe de Paris is a club behind Metropolitain. We were seated in an upper area, behind the bar on the way to the restrooms and adjacent to the DJ booth. From our table, we could see down into the main dining area. While there was no DJ playing, there was music. Our server was pretty attentive, spoke excellent English and served us well. The food was decent. I ordered the Lobster Roll and Fries. Felt like I was meant to come here! It was recommended by a friend and then the bf serendipitously found this place and suggested we come here. There's a downstairs section which is the area labeled "Metropolitan" but if you go to the left and up the stairs there's a loftier brighter upstairs section that wasn't as crowded and very lovely with standard tables as well as high chair tables. ++eggs Norwegian - big helping of smoked salmon, some poached eggs with hollandaise on brioche and a very small scoop of avocado +++burger time - burger was cooked very well! so tastyyy +++chia bowl- such a beautiful display and a delicious healthy mix of bananas strawberries chia seeds and a smaller berry!! read more

We ate here for a late breakfast and it was delicious. The bottom room was full so they told us to go upstairs as it had the same menu and I'm honestly glad they were full as we scored an awesome window seat by the main road. Doesn't look like a lot from the outside, but a very cute and pretty good quality café inside. I went for lunch with two girlfriends when we were super hungover and it was so good. The bacon avocado egg sourdough breakfast sandwich is great and a must try. We also got truffle fries to share. My friend had the lobster mac & cheese which was pretty good but very expensive. So I just had a wonderful lunch here at Metropolitain with my friend after lunch. I know today is only Tuesday, but the food in this cafe literally made my day. This is THE dessert place in Amsterdam! They have a lot of baked goods, strawberry dipped in chocolate and canoli as some ice cream but my favourite was their mini deutsch pancakes served with their Hazelnut chocolate sauce. A must! The place have few seats to eat in or if the weather allows it,grab your dessert and have it by the canal. They do have also a hot chocolate drink but it was a big miss for me. They offer it in 3 sizes and the smallish very strong in chocolate while the medium is the same amount of chocolate mixed with milk. It was lacking flavour. read more

My group came to this restaurant because we saw online that there were gluten free options, as my friend has a gluten allergy. We talked to the waitress and she said that everything could be made gluten free. My friend ordered "gluten free french toast". When it was served, we asked again to make sure- and it was normal french toast. The waitress had obviously made a mistake, but she tried to put the blame elsewhere and say that we didn't tell her about the gluten allergy. The manager then approached and said we would still have to pay for the food that my friend could not eat. After we explained to her that we explicitly told the waitress about the allergy, and we ordered it gluten free, only then would they agree to comp the meal. Besides this total lack of care when it comes to allergies and food safety, the food is very mediocre. I ordered the Norwegian Eggs, and it was an over-cooked poached egg on a crusty hamburger bun with very artificial tasting guacamole and salmon on the side. All this for over 11 euros. Not worth the bad service for sub par food. read more

Wasn't great. When we arrived there no one brought us to our seats, and we weren't even given a menu. We had to ask for it ourself. Took 15 min for them to take our order even though the staff wasn't really busy. After that, we had to wait 40 min for our order, which was sweet potato fries and an soft drink. We came here and nobody came to give us a menu. We grabbed some water from the water tap and I grabbed a glass which was full of lipstick stains. After 40 minutes we finally got our food.
