We went to Druber's today the service was fast, professional and nice. They were kind and patient as my kids took their time to pick out donuts. The donuts were great, very tasty and fresh, my kids loved them. They even gave us an extra donut when my daughter couldn't decide which to get. If I could give them a negative 5 stars I would. They shouldn't even be called a donut shop. Unfortunately for a donut shop they don't have hardly any donuts at all. They basically always to order. No one should have to wait 15 to 30 minutes for a donut. After eating there stomach shortly started turning then started throwing up throughout the day at one point hurled three times in two hours.

Just stopped in, the lady at the counter was super nice and filled our donuts with a variety of fillings. She even threw in a free donuts at the end. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend read more

I wish they still had their longer hours but this is one of the absolute BEST places to get donuts and coffee, and milk too. They usually have whole vitamin D milk for 79¢. Can't really beat that. read more

I hadn't been to Druber's for a while. I think maybe it had been 5 years. I'm super glad they're offering breakfast now. It's delicious and filling. The donuts are as classic as ever. It was a trip down memory lane for sure. I hope people continue supporting this shop. read more

I came to Druber's Daylight Donuts with my girlfriend who is from Newton. She praised it as though it was the best thing since donuts were invented. Period. The hours are great she said, they open at night for the college kids & stay open through the morning for the older regulars that have been coming here for generations she said. I believed her because she's smart & I was hopeful because she said they also have awesome Bierocks with 4 flavors (Taco, BBQ, Ham & Cheese that reminds her of her child hood growing up & my classic fave original with onions, cabbage & ground beef like I had growing up as a good Catholic school boy jk) My day got better when I saw the coffee is fairly priced at $1.45 & cappuccino $2.40 for the large. Take that Starbucks. Their donuts are 60 cents each & $6.60 per dozen. Compared to Dunkin donuts 95 cents & $8.99 per dozen. Good job again. That's all the good news. Sorry but I'm not usually the one to complain about a small business but I see Druber's as the business that's ran like it's still the 1960s. It's usually a restaurant that has dated pictures of trains on the wall, the countertops are the same original yellow hue as your grandparents house which was built in 1920. The floorboard creaks in some spots. The AC is a window unit that isn't turned on since it's November but today is oddly hot 63 outside but closer to 80 inside because of the ovens. The restrooms are behind the kitchen counter. Who does that? There's no wifi, no electrical outlets to plug in your laptop computers, phones, or other mobile devices. And yet, this Daylight Donuts survives. They may in fact be doing OK. The food is still pretty good. There remains a loyal customer base of older retired people here in the mornings and college crowds in the evenings. I believe the business does well because it has little competition in the neighborhood besides Charlie's truck stop that has food 24/7 but no donuts except the gas stations around town. Finally, for my lack of 5 star review is that this place is making one colossal mistake: "Sorry, we don't accept credit cards." Do you ever hear this at bigger donut shops, coffee shops, or 7-Elevens? I asked, why not? "I've been here 18 yrs. Nothing's changed" said the Daylight Donut Lady. Here's a fact: many people aren't carrying cash anymore. You will have to accept credit cards, and soon you will have to accept electronic payments. Don't try to pretend that we, your customers, don't know the real reasons why you don't accept credit cards. You don't want to pay the extra fees, right? Yes, there are fees. All the credit card companies charge them. And so do mobile payment services such as PayPal and Square. Welcome to 2015. Remaining cash only may not only cost you new customers, but keeping the ones that you have. I may really like the Donuts at the little family joint in Newton, but I'm getting tired of the "we only accept cash" sign that hangs in front of the register. There are plenty of other places in Newton that serve a good cup of coffee who accept credit cards, have wifi, and let me charge my phone while on Yelp. read more

Gone downhill of late. Food - donuts are fresh daily, I think. Wide selection. They just aren't the best donuts around, like they use to be. Atmosphere - Utilitarian in nature. Many tables and booths. Seems there is always a group of retirees sitting in the place, which is not bad. It's just a little uncomfortable when they watch everyone come in as if saying, "who are you and what are you doing in our donut shop." Service - The few times I've been in lately I have had to wait for them to make coffee. Seems to me if the pot(s) are half full they should start a new pot, instead of waiting until the pots are empty. Employees don't seem to enjoy their work. This is a great place to enjoy the premier donuts of Kansas. The owners Phil and Lena provide excellent service and great hospitality. They make some items that the previous owners did not make, like breakfast sandwiches. The price is more than reasonable and if you time it correctly you can hear all the latest new in the community. I have been there twice. Both times I ended up leaving because they had only a couple doughnuts left. This is no way to run a business.

Get up, get in your car, and drive to Newton for the best donuts in life. People go out of their way for these donuts for a reason. They are made week taste well and perfect! Now when I try other donuts I realiZe they don't compare to how amazing these are. They only take cash so make sure you take plenty so u can try everything! This place is timeless. If you have not been by Druber's in the last couple of years, it has yet to change. This is one of the very few places in Newton that is open late for the insomniacs, drunks, HS/College kids, and people who have a sweet tooth for something fresh. They have all kinds of drinks to choose from and the fresh smell of hot donuts. It feels nostalgic to order some long john donuts with a carton of chocolate milk to hit the spot. If you want the best donut you've ever had AND a place to hang out all night long, then Druber's is the place for you. Swing by around opening time (10 or 11 PM) and you will find a pack college kids from one of the many local small colleges. A couple hours later the next wave of college kids will hit, these ones will be in for the long haul. Once they filter out around 2 or 3 the place is ready for the early morning trucker crowd. ] As far as ambiance goes, I am sure this place hasn't updated since the late 60s or early 70s, and that's how it should be. The baffling round/octoganal table is great for large groups and board games. My two gripes about Druber's are these: One, the owner/manager can get uptight when a group of kids gets rowdy. Two, using the restroom is kind of a sketchy adventure--you've got to kind of battle your way through the kitchen and make it to the back of the store! read more

Ah, Druber's. I have such fond childhood memories of you. My mom used to work at the newspaper across the street, which is perhaps part of the reason we stopped in semi-regularly. As a three to five year-old, I was a big fan of the bear claw, donut holes, and long John with either chocolate milk or hot chocolate, depending on the season. I guess some things never change. Druber's is your classic small-town, old school donut shop. You'll be sure to see primarily locals and that group of old men at the corner table who've been coming every morning for coffee and donuts since anyone can remember. The donuts are cooked fresh each morning and they are delicious! Step aside Krispy Kreme, you got nothin' on Druber's! (P.S. Although I was born in Newton, I grew up in Oregon and I think it's kinda funny that all of these reviews have been written by West Coasters. We must be starved for a good fried pastry.) read more

Oh man this place is great for late night gatherings. I remember when I use to live in Newton, we use to come here all the time. After moving away for a while, I came back to visit. It's 3 am my train is running a little late. Went for a walk looking for something to eat. I was told about this place by a local. I'm glad he told me about it. I had a very good apple fritter. I'm not an expert on them but have had a few and this ranks pretty high in my book. Very friendly person at register. And did I meant on 3 am. So I recommend this place off of main a half block on 6th Ave. The train runs behind occasionally and this isn't too far to walk. read more

Druber's is a triumph of local economy, a cultural experience and a joy to frequent. They also make doughnuts, spectacular doughnuts--I personally recommend the peanut butter twists and coffee sticks. Their prices are scandalously low. This is doubly true on Christmas Eve when they halve their prices for any customer (as well as providing free pictures with Santa, if that's your thing). Early early in the morning Druber's is the haunt for older gentlemen who meet, share local gossip and drink a whole lot of coffee. At night it turns into "the cool place to be" for local high school and college students. If you stay into the wee hours of the morning, you might see local railroad workers stopping in for a mid-shift snack and a coffee. Now the coffee won't win any awards. It is a simple working-man's coffee that tastes like it hasn't changed since the Second World War--the perfect compliment to the hometown atmosphere and fresh, warm doughnuts made and served daily. Druber's is the kind of place you would see on one of those "Let's get back to work, America" type of commercials with the very Midwest-looking lady pouring coffee and raising the blinds, readying her caffe for another Monday. Drubers has been awesome since the 80s, when I started going there. It recently underwent some minor changes (rearranging of furniture in the room you enter into). The other HUGE change is that they ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS! You have to eat over a dollar to use this service, but it really bugged me that you had to run past an ATM to go there, and now we know that next time we can just come. Also, they are open on Sunday morning. They even have special pricing for church groups! My husband grew up with a "Donuts every Sunday" tradition in his family, so no ability to get donuts on Sunday was really weird to him. No more. Now the two things that were annoying are solved. Oh, and Peanut Butter twists and cream filled Long Johns or Bismarks are the BEST! read more

Took the kids for the first time and all 3 said the shirt drive from Goddard to Newton was worth it! We were able to wait for the glazed donuts fresh from the fryer absolutely worth the wait! I had a really nice review on here and deleted it after last night! I flew all the way from San Diego in hopes to buy a small bag of donut holes. I walk in and see a huge tray of fresh donut holes are made. I am placing my order and the cashier Matt tells me they are out of donut holes. I pointed at the huge tray of donut holes and asked why he could give me some of those? He said those are for orders. I said for what time, he said 3 or 6 am orders. It was midnight, I said aren't you going to make more donut holes by 3 am and he said yes, I asked why they couldn't sell me one small bag of donut holes and later when they make more set those aside for the 3 am order. He said we can't. I think this is the most absurd experience I've now had at a restaurant! Matt said if you want to place an order and return at 10 am we can have some ready for you. Don't worry Druber's Donuts you have lost my business I won't ever be back after this BS incident! Zero customer service! I even asked if I could just buy one single donut hole and the guy would not budge! I had to go to my grandmother's funeral the next morning so I didn't make it back to pick up donut holes. There is now more frosting on the donuts and the "pink" flavor is different. The lunch menu "cheese coneys", while still delicious, are not the same. There is a different breeding.
