Pedro has been my 14 year old daughter's drum instructor for several years now- even through the pandemic! We were able to continue lessons virtually which was really important to be able to maintain some sort of normalcy during that time. He is patient and adaptive to each individual students needs. He's got a great sense of humor and can be serious and motivating at the same time. One particular thing I like is that he plays keyboard along with the student as they are drumming, which really allows them to understand how the percussion sounds with the melody. Our son was young, indeed, but Pedro took him on as a client regardless and catered his lessons to his age by using colors and shapes to help him learn to read music. My previous drum teacher moved and I found myself in the unfortunate position of looking for someone new. For me it's difficult as I'm looking for someone that can teach me the way I need to learn. I don't respond well to the old-fashioned rudiments on a practice pad routine, so I really dreaded this process. I'm also looking for someone that has a feel for the drummers I admire so they can better understand how my thought process works. For me, finding the right teacher is more than just someone that's a proficient player and can explain the lesson. It's really a relationship...the right teacher can understand where you're coming from and be able to help you achieve your goals, understand your strengths and weaknesses and connect with you in musical way. I probably read through the profile of every drum teacher in Austin, but after I checked out Pedro's website, I could tell somehow he was different than the other teachers I'd researched. After my first hour lesson today, I know I'm going to learn more from him than anyone I've worked with before. Pedro has a really great way about him and is genuinely interested in making you a better player. In my introductory lesson, he walked me through something I thought would take some time to get worked out but he had me playing it by the end of the hour. He's also encouraging me to work on some form issues by way of explaining why it's important and why it will make me a better player. I can really embrace logic like that as a lot of teachers will only tell you to do something this way or that way...Pedro will walk you through the process and how it can and will improve your playing. I'm probably not his typical student, but I get the feeling he teaches a fair amount of adults like me, as well as beginners of all ages. I really fought taking lesson for a long time, but if I'd found Pedro years ago, I know I would be an infinitely better player at this point in my life. If you're looking for an passionate and enthusiastic yet down to earth teacher that will teach in the way you need to learn, Pedro is your guy. Already looking forward to my next lesson! read more

As a "mature" student, I have to admit I was a little intimidated about learning drums, especially since I'd never had any musical experience before. Pedro is a really great teacher. My son has such fun at his lessons, on top of actually learning something. He makes sure the kids take it seriously, but also taps into their creativity encouraging them to try new things. It's a very interactive format in which Pedro plays keyboard while our son drums. One of the most delightful experiences was the Spring Recital he put on with another local teacher at Spider House. Pedro really is a great teacher. We've had two children take drum lessons from him, and he's very patient and he connects with them and speaks with them on their level so that they don't feel intimidated. He very quickly helped them learn the basics, and had them playing along with songs that they liked so that they were interested in playing on their own. But the best part of drum lessons from Pedro are the recitals; instead of typical (boring) recitals, the kids form groups and actually perform on stage like a real rock show! (In front of a packed house!!) Our kids have now had the experience of being in a band and performing on stage to a very excited crowd, and it has them hooked!! If you want to help your kids catch the vision of playing an instrument and performing for the love of it, then I can't recommend Pedro highly enough. read more

Pedro is a very cool teacher! Very personable, fun, and patient. I was not familiar with drumming at all when I started lessons about almost 3 months ago. I would never thought that I reached this stage of drumming! What I notice since the beginning, Pedro tried to understand me, what I like, and the way I sense music..and he teaches based on these aspects! Pedro is very personable and has a wonderful step-by-step approach to teaching the drums. He is very laid-back and patient with newbie mistakes. I appreciate that he often gives me a choice to go ahead with the lesson as he had structured it, or to learn a song I really like instead. He'll pull up the sheet music and the song and teach me how to play along. Unexpectedly, I've learned a lot more about music in general just from comments he makes throughout the lesson. Pedro's a GREAT drum teacher. He adjusts to your kids' pace and really helps them to develop. It's been wonderful to see our son enjoy himself and improve. Pedro's methods are a great mix of focusing on technique and learning beats (and variations on them), and then using all that to play the drum parts of your favorite songs. His yearly recitals, held at real music venues around town, are a blast: with a stage and big speakers and a sound engineer, and all the parents in the audience. Super fun. My favorite part of my lessons with him is when we jam out - I'll play one of the beats we're learning and he'll play along on the piano, which really gives you a good feel for what it's like to play in a band with other people! Pedro rocks! I decided to take lessons with him, not really knowing where to go in Austin-- turned out to be a great decision. He is a chill, laid back dude who is passionate about what he does. He's eager to impart his knowledge on his students and help them get where they want to go, whether that is getting down specific songs, learning theory or the structures of rhythms-- he knows it all and is completely open to whatever you are interested in, but regardless of what you may be learning in particular, your drumming will improve no matter what. My skills have improved exponentially as I've continued drumming with him, and that's a great feeling. He makes you excited about what you're doing and eager to keep at it and to always continue learning more. His light hearted spirit is the refreshing cherry on top of it all! I grew so fond of Pedro after just a month of weekly lessons and think of him as an outstanding musical resource/teacher and friend.
