The show is super fun and the actors are amazing, would recommend this to everyone. One of the better comedy shows in Chicago at the moment. The only negatives are the ticketing process and the seats. Buying tickets for more than one person is a miserable experience (especially if you buy from Groupon). The seats are magnificently uncomfortable. My entire group of eight (all in our early 20s) had back pains by the end of the show and couldn't wait to get off the painful wooden benches. After the standing ovation at the end of the show, half the show continued standing - not because everyone was still clapping, but because we were all in sincere pain sitting on those godforsaken benches. The bookshelf's also just make it even more painful in your back. If this show added some cushions to the chairs, this would be a 5/5 review. As I read this review out loud to my girl friend, she told me that I didn't say enough positives - we really did love the show. But dear god those seats are uncomfortable, we might have to go to PT after sitting on them. read more

Super fun! Lively performance filled with just enough Shakespeare to call it Macbeth with lots of pop culture silliness. Definitely for a drinking crowd. The bench seating is a bit awkward and the stemware far too delicate for a joint without tables. Definitely need to love Shakespeare but even if you do it's a far stretch. Vulgar is what comes to mind and I'm usually okay with some of that- just a little obnoxious after awhile. Front of the venue staff were really arrogant, incredibly unpleasant and their communication was awful. There's no manager on staff to resolve issues or provide any sort of leadership. The neighborhood is not great anymore either especially at night and the room you enter in before you go in is about twice the size of the bathroom to the left. The venue was not cleaned when guests arrived and so they had people waiting outside. Play was alright, and the actors had a lot of energy, but when you're greeted with people treating guests like garbage it's hard to get past that. There are dozens of theaters in Chicago and almost all of them won't greet you with entitled 25 year olds who think they're the customers. read more

This was a fantastic time! We laughed so hard that my cheeks hurt at the end of the night. The 'theater' is definitely a speak easy type place. Me and my boyfriend visited Chicago in April. I usually don't leave reviews for many things unless they blow me away. This show was hilarious. The actors were inventive, funny, and did a fabulous job. The small venue gives a very inclusive feel, and they do a great job of creating an immersive experience with the audience. We didn't stop laughing from the second we sat down, until we went to bed that night. It's all we could talk about after leaving. As people have stated, the humor is vulgar, if that's not your jam I wouldn't recommend it. We have gone to so many comedy shows and we have never laughed as more than we did at this show. The actors and actresses are amazing, so talented, hilarious, and so quick on their feet. Super fun, irreverent performance by a talented cast! 90 minutes of raucous laughter and pure chaos. This tiny, bespoke theatre is the perfect venue for such a fun performance of a Shakespeare classic. Craft cocktails were fantastic (maybe especially after being greeted with a shot at the door!), but the real highlight was the truly fantastic players. Absolutely hilarious! We got tickets off Goldstar and went on a Wednesday night. Given the smaller crowd, our seats were upgraded for free. Cocktails were $16 despite definitely not being worth that much, yet were still tasty. We were given some sort of mystery shot upon entry which was great and got us in the mood for the show. The performance is conducted in an oddly lengthy yet intimate room, perfect for the show. Seating is on benches, and you can order drinks and food throughout the performance. The entire cast is hilarious, well versed, and super amicable. They have a way of getting you hooked even if you're really not that familiar with Shakespeare. If you're not old and lame, you'll be super entertained by most of the comedy. Nick was the drunk one our night which was a total treat. Definitely could have gone without seeing him eat a booze soaked pita chip with his shirt almost completely unbuttoned though... Took off a star for the drink prices, yet added it back given taco bell is right next door! Check them out!! read more

Having been to the Drunk Shakespeare in NYC, I definitely went in with high expectations and I'm happy to report this one didn't disappoint at all! I bought my tickets through Goldstar (best ticket prices) and was upgraded because I got to the venue well in time (it wasn't a crowded day). The jokes were really funny even tho it felt more rehearsed / not as impromptu as the one in NYC and I'm a sucker for some spontaneous jokes. If you just chat with the actors at the beginning of the show, they'll find ways to interact with you during the show which is my absolute favorite part. The cast both individually and as a unit is extremely funny - I just love the overall vibe of the show which is "Drinkers with a little bit of a Shakespeare problem" Major tip: Don't buy drinks till the bidding for king and queen happens - they offer a bottle of Perrier Jouet along with caviar and chocolates. If you can nab the bid price I'd definitely recommend that over 16$ cocktails. And chill - if you go there, there's no way you aren't gonna have fun! read more

Drunk Shakespeare FIVE STARS!! May I make a suggestion? If you're looking for something fun to do and you are fond of Shakespeare or even if you are not, it doesn't matter because this interactive play is something familiar and yet all together new. Drunken Shakespeare, running at the Lion Theater 182 N Wabash is a delight! The theater is a little hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. However, if you are aware that what you're looking for is not a big marquee like the Chicago Theater, but instead a dark tinted glass store front with a large sidewalk sign that reads, "Drunken Shakespeare this way", you should be set. The venue is relatively small and is set up to resemble a Speakeasy complete with fabulous and very STRONG, vintage and deliciously Murdery cocktails. You check in and are quickly guided into the back room (because there is literally no lobby). Through the red curtains you will be greeted by members of the cast with trays of shots (tasty, strong) to loosen you up. The room, rectangular in shape, has bench seating lining the room and 3-4 levels going up from there. The walls are stacked with bookcases that you would expect to open to reveal a secret passage somewhere although not so. The characters are comical and the more they drink the funnier that become. The play itself, Macbeth, is told with a new and comical spin. It's a melding of classic monologues, improv, current events and much, much more. Guests are encouraged to participate and...drink. It's great fun! The drink menu like I said has a variety of selections one would expect when one thinks of an old-time, classic speakeasy, complete with lot's of whiskey. Cocktails come in vintage glassware and although somewhat small in size, pack a hearty punch! I had an Irish coffee that was very strong and not the coffee part either. I'd say the average price of a classic cocktail runs about $14-15 dollars. They also serve Beer, Champs, and soft drinks and a few snacks. Kettle chips, hummus and pita, caviar and chocolate. If you're disabled and worried about stairs, don't. There is accessibility. I suggest calling the box office ahead of time giving them a heads up. Super fun show, the time flew by they were honestly so entertaining. It should be said that humor is fairly vulgar, so if that bothers you the show is not for you. Reason for the lower rating is that our party of 4 was unable to be seated together despite booking the tickets together. While we didn't arrive until a couple of minutes before show time (train issues) we were not late and they were scrambling to find seats for us. Sitting apart was disappointing but not the end of the world, but who I assume was the manager was very rude about it, which is just unacceptable. It really soured my mood at the beginning of the show, as I was so taken aback by her rudeness. Really unnecessary and unfortunate for such a fun show otherwise. read more

The seats and some of the jokes were uncomfortable for us, but as a whole it was an enjoyable experience. Most of the actors were amazing, minus one who kept fumbling his lines and seemed out of his element. We especially enjoyed the host and his ease with audience banter. Some of the show is scripted and some is improv. At many points I couldn't tell which was which. That bodes well for the improv bits but not so well for the scripted parts. The drink options were really great, but the snack menu could use a major overhaul to offer more. They're still getting their legs under them in Chicago, so I would be interested in seeing the show again down the road, once they've worked out its kinks. read more
