This DSW is located at Pentagon Row and visible from the street, and since it's anchored on a corner, it makes it easy to access. It's DSW so who doesn't love them, a discount, or shoes, mmmm? mmmm? who???!!! lol This location is very clean and since it's located on the upper level it is very bright with lots of natural lighting, which I love. There is an escalator and an elveator available to make it is accessible to all. The parking is wherever you can find it but you can get a free hour at the Harris teeter parking lot or free on the street after 6 pm, otherwise, you have to pay. Decent selection of shoes but this is a smaller store, size-wise, and that also means that they have no bathroom, should you need one. Kinda no bueno in my book, because you never know, and there were customers inquiring for one. The staff was friendly and they only had one cashier working but it was not busy on a chilly, fall, Saturday afternoon, so it was no big deal. read more

Honestly, I went to DSW to get out of the cold...my son was on the ice at the Pentagon Row Ice Rink! Having said that, everyone can use shoes, so I went looking. Every single pair of shoes on display was priced literally $5 below retail, or as they put it "comparable value!" $5! There's no real savings there, and while there is a variety of shoes available, it's far more warehouse than showroom and with little or no savings, what's the point? read more

The manager here is a complete jacka$$. I went to pick up 2 pairs of shoes I ordered online. An associate grabbed them for me, one box was completely beaten up and falling apart, but I took it to try the shoes on anyway. I realize both shoes are for the left foot, I started talking to the woman at the counter and a guy walks up and starts asking what's going on, interrupting us. I tell him I got 2 left shoes, and he asks where I got them from, I tell him I literally just picked them up. He keeps asking questions that made no sense and I'm trying to explain that I just did online pickup. He didn't even listed to a word I said, he asked the associate a few times and she didn't seem to understand what was going on, so I filled in. This jerk was raising his voice and telling me he's asking the associate, he isn't talking to me. If I know what's going on, why can't I tell him?? He said multiple times I'm not talking to you and turned his back on me. He was being a condescending jerk, I felt like he was acting like I'm just a little woman who doesn't know anything. I told him he was being super rude, and that I didn't care anymore, just give me a refund, I'm not buying the shoes. He walked away and the associate refunded me - she told me he was the manager. This is the DSW that I wish all DSW's were modeled after...not that I've been to all DSWs.. hmmm!..there's a thought. I love the escalator! Its the stair way to shoe heaven! I always start by walking all the way to the back (directly across from the escalator) for the sales racks. I've found some really great deals! And if you don't find what you're looking for on the sales racks, you're bound to find it in the other sections of the store. The entire shoe collection is on the second floor and is pretty spacious. We went here for our daughter's shoes and they had a decent collection of toddler shoes. Oh DSW, what a disappointment! Whenever I am walking by a shoe store that I have yet to be in, I - obviously - feel compelled to go in and see how it compares to their other stores. I have been in giant DSW locations, regular-sized, and one kind-of small one in Rhode Island, but had high hopes for this one given the area. Until I walked in and it was about 90 degrees at the front door, and even hotter at the top of the escalator. Sure, air conditioning can break down at a bad time (why is it that a/c never breaks in December?) but you simply cannot be open when it is 95 degrees INSIDE and you don't have windows that open (not that they would have helped, but maybe one blast of air would have come in from outside). I took a quick walk through and decided to go out into the July heat, where it was cooler. read more

Darren this lovely young man helped me find a lovely pair of flats. The sales associates here are incredibly friendly- no glum faces anywhere. The selection is great. This is THE WORST DSW location I've ever stepped foot into (pun not intended), and that includes the zoo called DSW in Union Square, NY, where everything is always in disarray. This was my first the visiting this location although I've passed by several times. I like the face that it an escalator takes you upstairs to the shoes (feels a bit fancy lol). Nonetheless, I ordered a pair of nude BCBG pumps online (their 5 1/2 fits the best). I was also able to get 25% off in addition to my $10 off coupon in my online account. This was the only location that had them in stock in my size. It was a breeze to order online and as well as a breeze to pick them up. They have an in-store pick up system, so I ordered online for pick up at this location. The reason for this? They didn't have my size for the boot that I wanted. The order took a little over a week to arrive, and they sent me an email with a pick up deadline when it did. It was early Monday afternoon, and it was so quiet that there were almost as many people working as there were customers. Again, NOT BUSY. I waited in line...for 35 minutes. During that time, no one even acknowledged I was there. It was frustrating. It is fun just browsing here, and I would probably shop here again, but that was not a good experience. read more

I usually enjoy my experiences with all DSW locations, however, I wasted a lot of time their today and had to warn others if they planned on shopping here. (Note: this has only happened at this location) I stopped by DSW to pick up a new pair of fall booties. The selection was great and I was about to pick up two pairs: a black and a brown. The store wasn't crowded and I walked up right to the register. I provided my coupon (on phone). This was a coupon I asked my mom to send me because she's the one in my family that gets all the coupons. She did not use this particular one and was going to throw it away. Upon presenting my phone with coupon displayed, I was told they'd only accept the actual coupon. I replied that I understood but then I would not be buying anything (because with the coupon I was about to save a whopping $40). Upon more discussion, the manager was called over and he told me the same thing. Then proceeded to ask for the phone number associated with the membership account. I provided the number that pulled up my moms account and was able to also provide my moms address with my own ID to assure she was my mother. After all of this, I still was unable to use the coupon on the phone. Disappointed to say the least. I left and went to the DSW in DC and was able to use the coupon off my phone. read more

At best -- make or break. I come here sometimes and walk out with 4 pairs of shoes under $70, other times I can't find squat. Usually the latter part due to my crappy flat.. no arch.... and double WIDE feet. I think I'd rather give birth or get a root canal without drugs than go shoe or bra shopping. This is a huge store with a large selection with different varieties of shoes primarily for common feet -- aka medium and narrows with a small selection of wides scattered throughout the store. What they have -- + Shoes for men, women, and children + Designer discount handbags + Socks, scarves, and tights Staff are friendly, and usually more than willing to help you find the right shoe for you if you ask. I love shoes! And quite a number come from DSW. Such good deals to be had! I find that this location has a huge selection (also helps that the store is pretty big!). But like some other Yelpers have said, either you leave with a couple pairs of shoes or nada. Unfortunately for my wallet, when it rains, it pours. Anyways, I've always had good customer service at this location. Most recently, last week when I returned 4 pairs of shoes, but was only credited for 3 of them. In comparison to other DSW's, I think this one is the biggest I have ever seen (maybe even in comparison to the DSW warehouse on 14th street in NYC). The selection is incredible. DSW is usually overwhelming in whichever branch you walk into... but this particular one is laid out in a way in which the rows they do have feel like they never end. When you get to the end of the longer rows, the store keeps going to the right where the bargain shoes are located! I am an indecisive person, so this is sometimes a great thing or a horrible thing. All depends on how badly I feel like shopping. In comparison to other DSW stores, I don't like this one. I couldn't figure out what it was... and I think its the elongated layout. Usually DSW stores are huge square rooms with only rows, separated by style (flats, boots, high heels) so you can decided what type of shoe you want, and go to the row. And while looking in that row, you can look at other rows nearby because you can see them. In this store, the flats (shoes I like!) were often positioned along the walls, so you had to look at ONE shoe at a time. Which makes it hard to compare, not to mention forever to take a look at every shoe in the store. Really annoying, Here, I often find that my size is not available. While they have a lot of shoes to choose from, when you look below, there are only about 5 boxes in inventory, and what are the chances one will be your size? Don't get me wrong, I am a DSW lover. I don't think I have bought my shoes at any other shoe chain within the last 4 years. But this particular DSW store has an overwhelming layout and in my experience, a poor inventory. read more

This place was a bit difficult to find. Also the shoe selection is small went here a few times and found the same selection not sure how often they update their inventory. The prices are not all that different then what they are in the mall. I bought a few leather shoes costing anywhere between $60-140.00 depending on quality and designer. I would recommend them if you don't have time to visit the next door pentagon shopping center where you could score a better deal. But if you want to get in and out quickly and only looking for shoes then they are good for the most part. read more

I swear I was walking to the parking lot when the automatic doors at DSW suddenly opened. I kept thinking...no, don't go in...You just spent almost $200 at La'Vand !!!! I bought the sandals a little less than two weeks there. They are comfy and nice. I love wearing them. However, I was not satisfied with DSW promotion of the bag that is supposed to be given as a gift when you make a purchase over $36. The salesperson at the counter informed me that all bags are gone. And when I told him that this promotion started running today and how it is even possible, he said VIP customers had an earlier access. Although, I am a VIP customer, I didn't receive an earlier access to this. It seems like DSW lied to their customers in the promotion. Very disappointed. read more

Ehhhh. This location is just so-so, in my opinion. It is small (all the shoes--men's.women's, and clearance--were on just one level), and the checkout line was horrendous (about 20-deep every time I looked). There were no great deals to be had, and I found myself ready to go in about 20 minutes. I guess I got really spoiled by the great DSW locations in Boston, MA and Raleigh, NC. Huge selection, I've never seen a purse section this big. They have a pretty decent sale section and everyone is usually pretty helpful. I'd usually give a place like this 4 stars, but a recent experience made it 3 for me. I found a really adorable pair of nude pumps in the sale rack only to try them on and... hmm, these feel like different sizes... oh wait, that's because they are! Ok, well no biggie, these things happen! I tell an associate who is totally helpful and tries to find a match for me - no luck. Then later at the checkout I see the box of shoes with mismatched sizes and point out to the cashier that "oh, yeah, I tried those on and too bad they were different sizes" - and so the cashier tells the sales associate about to walk off with them, "oh those are mismatched don't put those back!" Idk, it seemed kinda shady to me, or like they didn't have good communication and that's why this mismatched pair can make it's way out onto the floor. read more

Let me start with the fact that I LOVE DSW, am a premier member and patronize them frequently. I am not totally sure, but I am not impressed with this store, and despite living closer to this one, I will still drive to Bailey's Crossroads and shop there. The parking in Pentagon City is a nightmare in general (not really their fault, but still a negative in my opinion), so you either have to pay $$ to park, or fight for the parking spots. I found the layout of this store to be unappetizing as there is awkwardly small spaces between the lanes which makes it difficult to walk by if there is someone trying on shoes or visa versa. I also have found myself waiting the longest at this store in terms of check-outs and the customer service tends to be meh. Not rude, but not nice either. I have spent hundreds of dollars each year at DSW, most of it totally unnecessary but just me spending disposable income, so I'd appreciate people being slightly more friendly, just as common customer service. If you are a first time DSW shopper, definitely sign up for the membership, I have gotten so many discounts its awesome (but has me keep coming back so I guess it has done its job ;-) read more

When to DSW in pentagon city, I wanted a pair shoes but they I only saw the display one, on my size, I ask if they have any more in the back, the cashier offer to order them for me I said yes sure, that will be great. After a few minutes she said for some reason it couldn't be order, ask Rashieda if there was any discount for being the display pair, Rashieda started polishing that shoes right in front of me and said there is nothing wrong with the shoes, she was rude and had an attitude, to me it was never about the discount if I like something I am willing to pay for it is just such a disappointment that someone has to be so rude at one of my favorite shoes store! read more

There is really not much to say that hasn't already been said so I will keep it brief. I live a two minute (if that) walk from this location so it is hella convenient for me. Most times I go in to browse and about half the time I come out with a pair of shoes, whether I needed them or not (most of the time not). For some reason I am against paying a lot of money for shoes. My thought is it takes away from my clothing budget :) which is what I prefer to focus on. I hate to say, but most of the time I am not impressed with the prices here and find them to be more than I really want to pay for shoes that, knowing me, I will probably scuff up in some way within the next month. I did, however, find an amazing deal here for the shoes I will wear at my wedding. They were 75% off and came to $25 so I was pleased with that. Interestingly enough, I saw a product on SharkTank called "sole mates" to protect high heels and I found them here! They have been a lifesaver because I am the worst in heels and previously would wear a pair once before I, ultimately, stepped in a crack and scrapped the back rendering them unwearable (in my opinion). Now I have been able to keep a pair of heels (unscuffed) for about 4 months now! I also bought cheap running shoes here on sale. Definitely check the sale area because there are hidden gems stuck in there! read more
