Update: I contacted corporate after reading other reviews. This is not acceptable operations for a pharmacy. Imagine your doctor submitting your antibiotics there after the visit This is the MOST incompetent pharmacy staff I have come across so far. I had 3 prescriptions sent 8 days ago and since app still show in progress I went in to check. She said they are falling b hung and it's not ready yet. I have never experienced waiting 8 days for prescription. Good thing it's not life death type of drug. Use the one up two blocks. The pharmacy is always having to order drugs that normally should be stocked. It causes a delay in refilling your prescriptions.

Can't figure out why this is the worst pharmacy even though it's the closest to my house. Is it the long waits to get your medications? Or the staff that always looks like they don't care or the smell of weed, or the long waits at the cashier. I received my second COVID-19 booster shot and it went pretty well. I did notice that they were really thorough when confirming my appointment, why I needed a second booster, going through forms, and eventually getting the shot. I noticed that the person giving me the shot wasn't the warmest person in the world and she was even pretty short with me, who I honestly didn't appreciate, but that only really knocked down one star. I also felt empathy for the employees working at the pharmacy because they were getting a lot of unkind treatment from other customers. I would have liked it more if the process had been quicker, but I understand that it's a long process and that being a pharmacist can be a stressful job. read more

Being from Hawaii, yes I live under a rock inside my grass shack on the beach collecting coconuts and pineapples so I've never heard of this place before. Come to find out that Duane Reade is primarily located in NYC and is owned by Walgreens (yes I know Walgreens) and are known for their small store layouts in the densely populated areas. This Duane Reade had what we needed. It was clean, the people were somewhat nice, and the prices were A-ok. read more

Recently my parents moved to the UWS. My dad's regular pharmacy filled all his medications except for one medication which this pharmacy had in stock. BENAZIR, Staff Pharmacist, told me the other pharmacy had to reverse the claim. I spoke to the other pharmacist who confirmed with insurance that was it reversed the day before. She tried to speak to Benazir to help resolve the issue bc insurance said they were entering the dose and quantity incorrectly and that's why claim wasn't going through. However, Benazir was rude and unwilling to work with the pharmacist, insurance or me to resolve issue for the longest time. Furthermore, EMY, Pharmacy Technician, chimed in yelling and offering her two cents. It was a nightmare trying to get my dad's medication with this pharmacy. Rude, unprofessional and unhelpful staff, mainly Benazir and Emy. Also Signa insurance confirmed we shouldn't have any issues with getting meds from DR because the claim was reversed the day before. Went out of my way to get to this pharmacy just to find out they didn't check the stock or their appointments ahead of time. With Covid it's obviously hectic but every time I go there it's a nightmare! I've been told my prescription came in, went all the way down there in the freezing cold, waited in line for half an hour and then was told, "sorry your prescription isn't in or we have no record of it!" This is truly the worst pharmacy I have ever been to. They are consistently closed at times that their hours do not indicate, and their pharmacy is unbelievably slow. I have gone here for the past year solely because of the convenience in location but 9 out of 10 times I go my medications that were called in 4-5 days prior are not ready. Multiple times I have had to go to work missing a medication because they haven't filled it in time. The pharmacists are nice but honestly just bad at their jobs. I know that it's a city pharmacy and they must deal with hundreds if not thousands of prescriptions a day, but their inability to fill basic and necessary prescriptions on time (when given days to do so) is unacceptable. I am finally switching to a more competent pharmacy. read more

This is my neighborhood drugstore of choice. It has a calming, serene vibe - like seriously, meditative (especially when compared to the more hectic crowded CVS on 86th), and it's also surprisingly well stocked. I've had the same cashier a few times and he's really kind, and even alerted me that I had club point discounts to use up, which I found super helpful. I haven't tried the pharmacy here, but otherwise this Duane Reade is GREAT. read more

If negative stars could be awarded, i would do the that. The staff is, with too few exceptions, incompetent. They don't take the time to read all prescriptions due, fail to arrange for deliveries even when asked face to face. It is, for all intenst and purposes, pointless to speak to them on the phone. There seems to be significant turnover at staff level. The current pharmacist underquoted the price by a factor of 3 (the actual costs was 3x that quoted), and then needlessly did a partial fill without informing -- or perhaps realizing -- that doing so would make it impossible to fulfill the remainder of the order for another month, a big problem if planning to leave the city/usa. Moreover, although he undertook to call me with pertinent information, he did not do so, obliging what should have been an unnecessary visit to the store. read more

Waited 20 minutes in line with five people behind two registers. It was utter chaos, no one seemed to know what they were doing. When it was finally my turn, I gave my name for the appointment I booked 3 hours ago for my flu shot. My name was not on their list and I never received an email or text confirmation and the page refreshed with the appointment details. Whatever the error was, on my end or theirs, was neither here nor there, it was the short attitude and no empathy for the patrons waiting on line for such a long time. read more

My doctor called in my prescription last Monday. I went to the Duane Reade at 609 Columbus Avenue in Manhattan three times to pick it up. First time on Thursday and the response was "we're backed up come back tomorrow". Second time on Friday "it will be ready in 30 minutes". Third time "we don't have it in stock". Shouldn't this have been stated on my first visit?! The manager did call around to find the medication and he apologized which was appreciated, but still. An hour later and now my fourth attempt I go to the Duane Reade at 2522 Broadway in Manhattan and they said "come back in 30 minutes". On my return, which was my fifth time, another person helped and after I gave her my information she looked it up and said "we're out of stock". You can imagine how I felt hearing this. Another person came from the back as I was strongly voicing my frustration and said "we have it". Obviously the computer system data is out of wack, not to mention some of the people who work at both places. This is the most unprofessional and inefficient pharmacy I've ever experienced. Every time I go to fill a prescription there's a problem. People depend on medication for health issues. Based on my experience I'm not sure they know that. What a pity. read more

This might be the worst pharmacy of all time. Nobody is at the registers when they should be and the employees take forever to check you out. The lines to pick up your basic prescriptions are about 20 mins on average per day because the requirement for their employees seems to be "if you aren't one of the most inept people to exist, we don't want you" The best thing you can say about their employees is that they are nice for the most part, but that doesn't make up for everything else. The place is understaffed and it takes forever to get your basic every day needs, but other than that it's great! To put it into perspective just how much I fucking despise this place: This pharmacy is in my building and I still consider going somewhere else for what I need. It's sad how bad this pharmacy is. What's the point of making a vaccine appointment if you are going to be rudely told that there is a 30+ minute -first thing in the morning, I might add. I was the second appointment of the day. They were completely ill prepared for anyone to come and be seen. And then, the pharmacist lost my vaccination card. We were in a 3x4 room. The service is abominable. The woman at the cashier , Mina, had to ask my name 3 times ( and I have the easiest name possible ) and then asked me to spell my name twice ( my last name is the equivalent of Smith and my first name is the equivalent of Joe). The interaction took 30 minutes because she couldn't figure things out. She told me via the pharmacist that the prescription would be ready in 15 minutes. I was on my way to work and despite the fact that I would be a little late I decided to wait. After another 30 minutes I was told it would be another 15 minutes so I left for work and came back. Mina again took 30 minutes ( with a long line forming behind me ) and again asked me to spell my name. When I questioned the service she was rude about it as was one of the pill fillers ( not the pharmacist ). I will only go to other Duane Reade' sad I have not experienced such incompetence elsewhere. When arrived they said they need all info in a different form, 30 mins later they find the new form with exactly same info and questions. The only saving grace of this pharmacy is the caring pharmacist Frank S. He has time and time again helped me in a situation where the pharmacy itself has let me down to catastrophic results. I have serious health issues, and my drugs are what keep me alive. I have repeatedly been let down by basic ball dropping mistakes on the part of the pharmacy, and their nonworking automated system that says they will contact your doctor for refills. They have time and time again never had my drugs ready when they said that they were going to. Their prices are out of control, and they don't seem to know or give a shit about anything! I'm sitting in the pharmacy now at 8:15 AM on a regular business day and the pharmacy is closed. The employees do not know when it will be open, and furthermore the employees do not know who the manager is on duty for me to speak to. I had to interview each employee to find out who the manager was. When asking them about the pharmacy, nobody knows. No one even apologized. This place needs to be shut down. I am very sorry that they have one caring employee. It is not enough. read more

I'm only in here bc it's my local DR... Man, I've dropped so much money at this place, and I still go back due to convienience. Every ONCE IN AWHILE, they will have a great sale (clearance items, BOGO, 50% off, discount with card, etc). But for the most part, it's expensive like every other Duane Reade in the city. The pharmacy is iffy. Sometimes they'll be super quick with a refill and sometimes they "never got my prescription" despite me tracking the status online. Can't win every time. read more

One star because I can't choose 0 stars. I've had a prescription there for almost a year, then suddenly they started charging me for a medication that's covered by my insurance. For my last refill there was an "insurance issue" and I called for a week trying to transfer my prescription to another pharmacy but couldn't get through via phone. The other pharmacist called and was on hold for an hour before giving up. I went there in person to have my prescription transferred, waited 45 minutes on line, and was told they are too busy to help me transfer. I said all I need you to do is call CVS and they still refused. After telling them I'm not leaving until someone transfers my prescription they finally caved. I'm just glad this was not a life or death situation, she never even asked what medication I needed before refusing me. read more

I have been using this pharmacy both for medications and a convenience store for almost ten years. The employees are helpful, kind and patient and during this Covid crisis, they wear their masks responsibly. Several times in the last two weeks I have seen customers without masks or without their nostrils covered at the take-out counter. Not only am I concerned for my own health but i am concerned for the employees that may be inhaling virus particles. I asked one of the employees if she felt comfortable asking customers to put on their masks and she said that they had it from the top (the manager) not to request the customers to put on masks. Apparently when they do so, the customers can be agressive. I would entreat the manager to direct the employees to not ring up customers who aren't wearing masks. This can be done politely and firmly. We are in a crisis and we all need to protect ourselves and eachother. I will not be going to Duane Reade at this branch until the vaccine straightens out the virus mess and this because a moot point.. read more

I went to pick up my birth control related-prescription and was told their registers were down, so I couldn't have it. After I explained that I couldn't just skip a day, they gave me exactly one pill (the girl literally placed a pill in my hand, not even in a bottle or anything) and told me to "come back tomorrow when the registers are back up to pick up the rest." Not sure this is even legal, but it's definitely terrible business practice. read more

The pharmacy is the worst. The wait times are outrageous even when they are far less busy than other locations who get the prescriptions filled in half the time. (It's currently been an hour and twenty minutes when quoted an already absurd 45 minutes) While some of the staff is pleasant enough they could generally care less and I would hate to have to be consulted on any new medication by those I have frequently encountered. If you want to experience (reverse?) racism at its best, this is the place to go. I went there with my three kids who had blisters on their feet and headaches. I spent 20 minutes trying to get a bottle of Advil only to walk out after being harassed for not letting a woman cut in front of me in line. The entire line was white including me, with three black cashiers hanging out in front of one register. The line had built up to ten people by the time I finally made it to the one open register. I start putting all four of my items on the counter to pay when a (black) woman asked me if she could cut in front to get stamps. I politely told her, "no, I will be done quickly". She started going off on my for not letting her cut in line, the three black cashiers started telling me what an awful person I was for putting my small children ahead of this woman. At the same time one of the cashiers, who had been standing there for the 20 minutes I had been in the store chatting away, opens another register - for the one black woman who had come in and cut in front of everyone. I was not polite after that. Nor did I buy anything from that Duane Reade. I have lived around the corner for almost 20 years and shopped there. I will NEVER walk into that store again. read more

I only go to duane reade in a pinch, when I dont feel like walking to rite aid or walgreens and im out of something I desperately need, like milk or something. The prices here are absurd, even from their puny little four page sales circular, I could find things cheaper at rite aid or walgreens even when they are not on sale at those stores. Their new flex rewards program is actually worse then the old one, you have to spend more money to get the rewards I've actually been here, on more than one occasion, that when I got to the checkout there was nobody there. I'm not talking about other people on line, I'm talking about cashiers. They usually wait tilll line gets real long before they call another cashier to help instead of having more at the checkout in the first place. At least they are finally renovating this particular outlet and making it bigger, more room for more overpriced items..yippie!! The best bargain in the store is their two Chase ATMS at the entrance, you rarely have to wait to use them. The girls who work the registers on the day shift at this location are rude- they refuse to tell you your total and just stand there with their hands out for your money. They talk to each other, but not to any of the customers. I am a regular customer and not once have they greeted me, told me my total, or interacted with me in any way. It's just rude. read more
