Walk off the beaten path, want to steep, wooded hills or if it's warm enough, walk, right in the creek itself. And then to get back to your car you have to go up that very steep hill. There were three of us on each trip (plus Matt) and caught between 4 and 8 mature Salmon weighting between 15 and 26 pounds. Catching one of these big fish is really exciting - let me tell you. They fight back and they are tough to land. And, Captain Matt knows how to catch fish. He knows where to look, what bait to use, what depth to set the lines at, and when to pull them out. He LOVES to fish (to give you an idea, he fishes on his day off), and this makes him an excellent Captain and teacher. He has won numerous awards and derbys, and knows how to catch the other species of Lake and River fish as well. If you are on one of his Charters, he will be fully engaged at all times, and will expect the same level of engagement back from you. He really cares about making sure you have a great time on his boat, and will do everything possible to see that you have plenty of fish to bring home. I flew in from Calgary to Toronto. It was my dad's 70th birthday celebration. He booked a two day trip,4 months prior,a Sunday and Monday with these guys. He met them at a sporting show. We flew in from across Canada (Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal) On Wednesday my dad talked to the guy and he said it was all a go. I arrived in Toronto on the Saturday only to get a call to say they were cancelling. They were going to be in a tournament instead. WHAT! SO I'm in Toronto, my family in Montreal, and nowhere to go. we texted and talked back and forth (the other three where about to leave that same Saturday morning) decided that we would just cancel the trip. We were disappointed beyond belief. Cancelling 24 hours prior to going and a 7 hour drive from Montreal was too far for a one day trip for my 70 year old dad. I lost $1000. My cousin too. This PERSON decided to keep the down payment of $400 because he got screwed out of Monday (oh yeah, he still said he was good for Monday.... but how could we trust him..... he said the same thing earlier on that week) he also got vulgar when I asked for the money back. Very busy place year round if the following events are active: northern lights [aurora], meteor showers, visible comets, etc. You get the idea. Just PLEASE don't trash the lake. If you have something, put it aside in a closed bucket etc, and get rid of it later after leaving the area. Teach the young ones to NOT play close to the pier edge, and if they have trash, to dispose of it properly. There are many nearby houses/homes. Noise and voices carry during the day and especially at NIGHT. Please be respectful of others and keep your voice low. The appearance of the harbor area, pier and surrounding areas reflect on the town of Wilson and its residents; please act responsibly, don't trash the pier areas and waters, and be a responsible user of the area to keep it clean and usable for others. Nobody likes coming to a harbor area and pier to see food/cups, cigarettes, and general trash in the water and on the ground. If you fish on the pier, please keep track of your gear and fishing hook. How you act and leave the area(s) reflect not only on you and others, but affects the whole town of Wilson!

There's the Olott Beach Carousel Park (closed this year due to Covid), Krull Park, and Olcott Beach. The beach was actually closed last year because of exceptionally high water level in Lake Ontario that totally eroded away the entire beach and covered all the piers. The beach is back this year, though not as wide as it was previously and most of the docks are still under water. It's been a decent place to go this year especially during the week when there's not much of a crowd. The beach was pretty empty on my last visit. Check it out!

There was evidence of this around the septic tubes and we had to pull our dogs away from these every time we walked them. Even though the septic overflowed on Saturday, they did not have anyone come to pump it out and on a later day in the week they hosted a high school prom, thus overtaxing the septic again. (Yes, there was a school prom the end of June due to bad winter in the area, the kids are still in school.) We wound up leaving a day early as we were just sick of it. My husband emptied our tank into the septic and said the waste was within 1 inch of the top of the pipe, meaning 1 flush and likely it would overflow yet again. The pool was closed the entire time we were there but 2 girls that had a key to the pool (I'm guessing employees or family) were allowed to swim. The bathhouse near the pool was also closed our entire stay. The restaurant they claim to have was closed. The mini golf course appeared abandoned. No gym, no fitness area, no pool tables, nothing. Only amenity was a small playground and 1 basketball court with broken baskets. Nice view of the lake but you mostly have to stand at the fence to see it as the weeds on the other side of the fence are really high. The only other bath house always had a wet and sticky floor and there were plenty of spiders and wasps in there with you. Also the rv sites are barely wider than your rv with the canopy out. They lied to my husband and told him that the local car rental place drops cars off there "all the time". We had to pay $50 to uber to pick up, and another $50 to drop off, the car. They said they "never" go that far. There are no amenities in the nearby area either. It definitely looks like their main goal is weddings and events. Someone came to park in the spot next to us and were having trouble figuring out where to park and the owner came over, yelled at my husband for hooking into the wrong water and septic hookups (nothing marked & he used the closest) and then tried to get the guy to back in directly next to us and he would have been so close he could barely get his door open. Extremely disappointed in this campground as it was the first trip we took our granddaughter on and there was nothing for her to do.

My room was decked out in a cabin like theme and there were plenty of pillows and charge spots. The campground is peaceful and quiet, and my favorite spot to go was the little outdoor chapel in the evening during the sunset. I would definitely recommend this place for a family or even for a solo traveler. Some improvements would be the path down to the water. It was very full of weeds and I was a little nervous about getting a tick due to the path being not cleared. Also, I had some issues with the food that my stomach just didn't agree with, specifically with the taco night. Everything else about the campground was pleasant, calm, and very relaxing. I would still recommend it to anyone wanting to get away for a little bit from the craziness of life.
