Update: they cleaned up the beach more and added a bunch of wonderful powder soft sand. How have I not reviewed our local beach? Anyway, last year we had no beach due to flooding, but it's back. It's not big, it's not pretty, but it's ours. Lots of debris, large rocks, and broken branches, but the community and lifeguards otherwise keep it clean. The water was clear on our most recent visit. Plenty of room to swim in the designated area, and several lifeguards on duty. It's also close to a park. Across the street is another park with a playground and splash pad. There's nearby shops, a carousel park, three places for ice cream, and various restaurants all in walking distance. If all you're interested in is a sandy beach, you may want to consider travelling elsewhere, but if you want a variety of activities within walking distance of each other, Olcott Beach is a great place to spend the afternoon.

Didn't go to the actual beach, but visited the replica lighthouse and walked by the shops. Very cute area and great for part of a girls day out. Loved the carousel park next door with the 25 cent skeeball too! The lighthouse had historic photos and a list of upcoming events inside.

    Food and trinket shopping.

A super fun place to take your toddlers! The amusement park is first class, you won't be disappointed. Lots of local shops with great view of the lake. A very nice park and plenty of shade. Grab your favorite lawn chairs and enjoy.

This Ol' Cot of mine, slept here a thousand times... I wrote that song when I was about 1 year old. True story. Kind of. I've been to Olcott probably 20 times while I've been living in WNY. It's one of my fave places. I have come here alone, with friends, with family, and especially with a special someone. I love it here. Too much, really. Rain or shine. Winter or summer. But mainly summer... haha. Olcott is a really lovely place. On a clear day, from the lake shore, you can see right across to Toronto and clearly make out the CN Tower and the rest of the skyline. It's pretty magical. Not a lot of people know about Olcott so it's usually surprisingly quiet. It's a little out of the way and hard to get to, too. You basically head north from Lockport for what seems like 75 years, and then you eventually arrive. There are some cute little shops here too. They've tried to make it into a little mini-destination, a little holiday village. It's overpriced but worth a look. It's a nice little place to walk around. I recommend everyone visit Olcott, but especially on a warm day. You wouldn't want to come here in the winter. Not unless you are very very very wrapped up and you like being exposed to the elements. Or being exposed in general. In which case you'll probably end up in jail.

This area is akin to a craggy shoreline with a walking trail by the water's edge. You can clearly see an old, rocky fort/garrison just across the bay. My TO friends told me that area is actually in Nw York state, and the building is Fort Niagara. When I say it's close, I'm saying a good swimmer could swim there from here! There is a large, prominent hexagonal gazebo centrally located on the grassy stretch by the water's edge. It is quite Victorian in style, with white wooden cut-outs and embellishments. I thought it would make for a gorgeous location, with he craggy shoreline and Lake Ontario behind it, for wedding or engagement photos, or any momentous occasion, really. Just a beautiful site. (A gallery owner later informed us that this gazebo was built for the Stephen King movie, "The Dead Zone", and they gifted it to the town when the movie was done, as so many locals loved it. It really does seem to fit perfectly on the site). There is a large parking lot by the park, but I believe it is paid parking, FYI. It takes but ten minutes to walk the shoreline trail and back, but it's a wonderful stroll on a lovely day, and the area is so picturesque, it's like out of a postcard. Definitely worth the time, if you are in the area

Afterwards, we wanted a place to open up our gifts and hang out some more. What do two people who grew up in the Beaches go? We hit the closest beach, which was Lakeview Park Beach. This beach doesn't take long to get to. It's basically off highway 401 and straight south for a few minutes. It has a large park, a lovely beach, and is next door to Oshawa Museum. There are a few parking lots here. We went into the farthest one and had no problem nabbing a couple of spots. Parking is free. My car straddled a speed bump. It was a first for me! It was fairly busy when we got there before 6 pm. We managed to find a cute area with wooden benches. There were folks taking professional photos, kids going into the water for a swim, and more. We opened up our presents with a sandy beach with ripples in the water as our backdrop. Pretty good! I felt relaxed and happy, as I typically am at a beach, but even more with a good friend. We chatted and watched more kids go into the water to swim. There is some sort of incineration facility by the pier. It's not exactly horrific, but it did look odd at a beach. At around 6:30 pm, a woman on a megaphone indicated that there was no lifeguard on duty. We still saw kids go into the water. The pier has a lighthouse. It looked cute. We didn't walk down there, but we want to when we're not hauling gifts. The splash pad is amazing. It looks new. There's a huge, clear container that slowly tips thanks to gravity, dumps the water out, hits a large plate, and water splashes on everyone around it. It was so fun to watch that we both stood there watching the whole thing a few times, vowing to return one evening at 10 pm to partake in this fun. Adult splash pad? Yes, please! We walked along the cement path for a bit to check out everything. The path is no boardwalk, but it was pleasant and sure beats walking on sand for the entire duration. We both didn't know that this park existed until my friend did a search. The trees have huge trunks diameter-wise, so they've been around and it was lovely see see them. I am grateful for the find. It was lovely chatting in-person with her after a year of physically distancing ourselves during a pandemic. Miracles happen and yesterday felt like one at this wonderful gem of a beach. (253)

The beach is still inaccessible there are giant cement blocks so it's not a straight shot down for a wheelchair and the grass around them is very uneven and hilly like ground for a wheelchair to go over and I got stuck in the rocks and had to ask people to help push me out, then on the way back to the walk way (video I posted) my wheelchair was going to flip. There are small simple things that they could have been done, I've been to other beach's that have strips over the sand/ rocks that wheelchairs can ride over. The building looks nice they added a small golf course. To me it seems like all they did was build the restaurant and build up the rock walls especially around the beach.

The website promised a swimming pool, mini golf and other fun things to do, like volleyball and basketball. The pool was half full and closed, The mini golf was broken and run down and closed, there were no basketballs or volleyballs to be found. I was not informed of any of this before my trip. I reached out to the owner and he said to me that if we just came to swim and play mini golf then that's not what it's about. I was extremely insulted by this, as I explained, you promised these things on your website and I was not told any differently before arriving. He said that the mini golf was ruined by people in May and that the pool was up and running the third week of June. That was an outright lie, considering we started there from June 21-24. Please note that we also listened to him walking around our first night there, telling different campers how he bought this place as a retirement plan and it hasn't worked out, and he had no idea how much money he would need to put into this place. That should not be an issue for the campers who have rented sites expecting some completely different place with the things that were promised on the website. Blaming the victim is not a good look for a business owner. He did not offer me a refund and did not even say he was sorry that things were not as promised. The best he could do was offer me a free night if I rented a night. What a ridiculous answer.
