A taste won't hurt too bad right???? Duck Donuts is a no frills shop and donuts are the main attraction. All of their donuts have a vanilla cake base. However, your imagination is the only thing limiting you on the coating, topping, drizzle combos. To help indecisive people like me, they've printed some of the popular customer favorites. I ordered the chocolate, peanut, & salted caramel drizzle and tried to be creative by ordering a chocolate coated, coconut, peanut variety. All donuts are made to order which helps ensure they are fresh and delicious. The donuts had a lovely aroma and the vanilla cake was the right consistency (I hate thick dry pastries). The DD team member assembling my donuts coated them after they cooled a little to make sure the coating adhered, then finished with the toppings and drizzle. I've been meaning to try a Duck Donuts for a couple years now. The opportunity finally presented itself after having a girls night/visit with a friend. The next morning, donuts were what we needed. I opted for one basic cinnamon and sugar and another with peanut butter glaze a chocolate drizzle. Their donuts are a nice size - bigger than mini and smaller than the average enormous donut you find nowadays. And the donut texture lives somewhere between a yeast and a cake. It reminded me of Entimens, but if they were actually good. lol I enjoyed both of my flavor selections. I'd probably get the same on a return visit as they were completely satisfactory. I came here in the middle of the day on a Friday and was the only customer. I was immediately greeted but had to use the restroom first. There were 2 individual genders neutral bathrooms and they both looked like the toilets hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The only reason I saw both toilets is cause I walked out of the first one due to them having no toilet paper. I know this is silly but this is the only reason I didn't give them 4 stars. It's not nice for the appetite having to see and use a nasty bathroom. But I digress. My favorite thing about Duck Donuts is that you can customize your donut orders on a walk in basis. A lot of other donut shops already pre-make the donuts and have them sitting out in a case for you to choose from. Meaning you have to eat whatever they have. But of course with Duck Donuts you can customize the icing, toppings and drizzle right then and there! I got half a dozen and took them home to eat and they were delicious! Haven't tried the donuts yet. But had a terrible encounter with employee Christine Walsh. Apparently it's not her job to let me know what frappe options they have. On the menu it says frappe small or large. She did not like that I asked her to add chocolate after I got a coffee with no chocolate. She was very rude, told me to know what I want when I go to order because it's not her job to tell me the options. Maybe she's having a rough day? I don't know. I simply asked if I could have chocolate syrup added to my coffee. No need for the attitude. I can pay extra. Not an issue. But the rude attitude, not necessary. Establishment seems fine otherwise. Really impressed with Duck Donuts! I've gone to many donut shops and I've never been to one like Duck Donuts. I love how you can customize your donuts. You just tell the cashier what coating, topping, and drizzle you want (instead of just picking premade donuts that have been sitting on the shelf for a few hours). The donuts were fresh and hot since they're all made-to-order. Each donut was $1.60 which is a great price compared to other overpriced donut shops that I've gone to. I ordered 2 maple bacon donuts, 1 blueberry coating with raspberry drizzle, and 1 vanilla coating with blackberry drizzle. My favorite was definitely the maple bacon! There's something about the contrast of the salty and sweet flavors that just gets me every time. I also appreciated that the bacon was cooked well and of good quality. My second favorite was the blueberry donut with raspberry drizzle. It reminded me of a wild berry flavored pop tart. The raspberry drizzle was very tasty. The vanilla donut with blackberry drizzle was delicious too, but it just didn't stand out to me as much as the other 2 flavors. Duck Donuts has one of the best donuts that I've ever had. I really don't like writing bad reviews but I tried to email them two times in the last 10 days with no response. Problem is it's a bunch of kids running the place I went in and ordered and it took 20 plus minutes to get two donuts and there wasn't anyone in front of me and they probably don't understand about time. I would not of even written a bad review based on this only I have bought donuts from there before and it's usually slow. Problem is the two donuts that came out were runts. Not quite half the size but very small for them. Usually they show you the donuts when done they did not I was already late so I grabbed them and left. . They make them basically to order and maybe ordering on line is better as far as time. It's great to see kids working but maybe a little adult supervision would help. read more

Thanksgiving road trip to visit friends ended with an encounter of the sweet kind at Duck Donuts. We waited patiently in line as we saw the cake donuts popping out hot and fresh from the fryer. My son and so both ordered the Maple Bacon which was the best of the bunch . We wish we had booth ordered two of those. He ordered the apple crumb and I ordered the apple pie. We both enjoyed our choices and even stayed that we chose better than the other. The last donuts for each were ok. I got the peanut butter chocolate and I don't remember what he got. Not so good. Way too much frosting. Made them soggy when we went to eat about 3 hours after pickup. We picked one dozen ourselves and one dozen at the topper's choice--bad idea. 10 just had frosting and two had something added to them. I was hoping that going with the "experts" would give us the best combos, but they clearly just went the lazy way and didn't add anything really. Not sure we will come back again. You gotta go and have them fresh, right there on the spot! I basically inhaled both of my donuts. I had the chocolate frosted with Oreo crumbles and chocolate with vanilla drizzle and cinnamon sugar. Unbelievable! I don't think you could go wrong with any of the donuts here. You could also customize the donut if you choose. These are cake donuts. Recently moved here from Michigan (where Duck Donuts do not exist) and we are so impressed with this franchise! If you are near one and enjoy a good donut, visit! My husband and I have made many visits and have never been disappointed. Donuts are fresh & made-to-order. My husband's go-to flavor is the Maple Bacon (he gets it every time). We have tried many of the flavors, some of my favorites are the s'mores, chocolate with sprinkles, apple pie & pumpkin streusel (the last two are seasonal). They have their signature collection along with a rotating seasonal collection. There is also the option to create your own by choosing which coating, topping and drizzle you would like. On occasion, my husband orders the breakfast sandwich that's on the maple bacon donut. He loves it (although I'm sure his cholesterol does not). The lady behind the counter was very nice. The guy making the donuts was surprised I was ordering just one. I would say there's only two things that could make this a five star review for me and I don't even think there's a company that does this. Siiiiiiiigggghhhhhhhh TL;DR: the service here is so alarmingly bad that people were actually leaving after paying but before getting their donuts. When I arrived, they were ten orders deep, and at one point, the guy at the register had to assist his coworkers, meaning the people wanting to order were just standing there. And standing there. And standing there. Here's my beef with the whole thing. This is a significantly closer location to me than any other, and I love their maple bacon, but waiting a million years for one is a real pain in the tuchus. I rewarded myself for my probably 15-20 minute wait with two free donuts that #529 left behind (don't worry, I asked them if I could and said she'd left), but even that didn't really appease me because watching the employees with absolutely no sense of urgency was stressing me out. How the King St. Duck Donuts can fix the issue: One employee in the back One employee at the counter, taking orders and making coffee drinks One employee grabbing the hot donuts One employee dipping and topping There are also more efficient ways to put together a full box than making each one at a time (do three have the same glazes? Wait till they're all made and in the box before glazing! Magic!), and ignoring that many upset customers in your store is kind of unconscionable. Duck Donuts has finally arrived to Fairlington! Located in the Bradlee Center, I was super excited that one is now super close to me! They offer the same flavors, glazes, drizzles, and toppings as the other DD locations. I was able to check them out during their opening week, and I got my hands on my two favorites - the Blueberry and the Maple Bacon - yum! Staff were friendly, and because this place seems to be constantly filled with customers, the donuts are super hot and decadent. The only slight issue is that the donut-making counter is a little messy, so the box you receive will be covered in sticky glazes - just be careful! Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot, but it is sort of a tight squeeze on the west side of the plaza. read more

The workspace was very untidy and all of the toppings/drizzle containers looked like they hadn't been cleaned for far too long. I'm surprised this place passed a health inspection.
