The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because I asked for one of the coffee drinks advertised on their signs and on their website/mobile app, but they said they couldn't make it. I'm not sure why, but I was a little disappointed because I wanted to try one of them. I also signed up on the mobile app and received a coupon to use on my first purchase, but their register wasn't working and they were unable to add my discount. It's not a pre-made donut place so make sure you plan to wait just a few minutes, I promise it's worth it! I'll ever be able to go back to a regular ol' premade donut. The donuts themselves are like a cake/raised hybrid that isn't overly sweet. Honestly it's the toppings that create the sweetness level. You can choose between their creations or make your own combos. Plus they even have take home donut kits. I spend about $15 on a large vanilla latte and 6 hot donuts with various toppings. I specifically went to try a donut with coconut toppings, but unfortunately they were out of coconut that day. They only offer cake donuts (which isn't my fav), but they come out really hot and fresh. I will definitely try it again and look forward to experimenting with different toppings. They also have breakfast sandwiches that looked, but only offer them on a donut (in lieu of English muffins, croissants, etc.) which I wasn't feeling. But maybe it's worth a try! I must say there is one thing that is so intoxicating, and that is the aroma of donuts being made. Moreover, what more can you ask for than made to order donuts??!! One walks into this place and it is clean open spaced and smells like victory. There are literally 100's of potential combinations (there is probably 1,000's, but I suck at math) for one to choose from. You will pick a coating, and then pick a topping, and then choose a drizzle. my favorites are maple bacon, lemon raspberry, peanut butter hot fudge. Krispy Creme has nothing on these...hands down the best. The unfortunate thing about this wonderful establishment it is Woodbury, and it a long way for one who lives on the west side to travel for donuts. If I am on the east side of the metro, I will always make an effort to get a dozen to bring home. One tip: if you like bacon, get your but their early. Okay, I see you Duck Donuts. Warm, soft, and sweetly balanced. On my first visit I forgot my wallet and my husband had strolled over to a store in the strip so I had to wait for him to comeback to place my order. I noticed it takes a bit of time since they make them to order. I asked if they could start an order for me and they said no. Well booooooo. By the time my husband came back there were SIX people in line. I figured that's like 30 plus minutes to get my donuts, so we left. Then came national donut day. This was the only place that had key lime donuts on the menu, it's for a limited time, but I freakin love key lime donuts, they're so "light..." at least that's what I tell myself. I sent my husband back, I ain't got time to wait in line. He comes home with half a dozen donuts and two free ones, which was awesome, but he also had complaints on the long wait. The cake donut itself was delicious. Just like what you'd expect a freshly fried donut to be, it's like taking a giant bite out of a mini donut truck and it tastes like how it smells. I was disappointed though in the glazes, they didn't taste like anything. My key lime didn't even have a hint of the wonderful citrus notes you'd expect, and my strawberry glaze was nothing as well. I got gypped, what a waste of extra calories! The cake donut I really like but minus a star for the wait and another for the flavorless glazes. read more

I love a good donut. My go-to is the classic raised glazed (though some people call them yeast donuts ). Normally I shy away from cake donuts but I make an exception for Duck Donuts! This new-ish to MN spot is awesome. The donuts are made fresh and then decorated right in front of you! In fact, you can customize your order with whatever glazes, toppings and drizzles you want. Each season/holiday they come out with a fun assortment, themed to the holiday. I was able to snag a Lucky Duck assortment, and it was fantastic! The best it was that they added Lucky Charms as a cereal topping for St. Patrick's Day! I love trying the seasonal specials, but also am a huge fan of their classics, like their maple bacon and their S'mores donuts! The only downside is that they don't have gluten free donuts, but hopefully soon! read more

Grand opening day! Wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. The line went pretty fast. Because they make donuts fresh (made to order) + you customize them or you can pick from a menu, they take a little while to get your order to you. I ordered the cookie butter chai latte. I was notified they didn't have it. Which is cool. First day, I understand. I ended up switching to a vanilla latte. We got a 1/2 dozen donuts: Cinnamon Sugar w/ Vanilla drizzle & sprinkles Mint Icing w/ Oreo crumbles & hot fudge Drizzle Bacon in the sun Blueberry pancake They were all fresh & good. Mint icing was my favorite! Tables were filled with icing. Eventually someone did come wipe them down. A staff member was sweeping the carpet towards the kitchen/where they were making donuts which doesn't seem sanitary (pushing dust towards the kitchen vs away). Overall good donuts. I visited Duck Donuts on their opening day! I've had friends visit this donut shop before, and I'm happy they've made their arrival in the Twin Cities! There was a decent crowd (as expected) but I was pleased with how smoothly everything operates. We received a $4 off a dozen donuts coupon for our next visit. We'll definitely be back! It's hard to pick a favorite, but the mint icing wins. It's their seasonal donut now, so act fast! It had a nice mint flavor and didn't taste like toothpaste.
