Horrible...you can't even use a live agent on chat to request your final bill overage payment. They make you call in and wait online. This is the only company I know that will keep your money unless you call to request your overage from your final payment, that you cannot request via a live agent on chat. Multiple power outages this month. However, Duke Energy refuses to provide any credits towards the next billing cycle. Their Justification? When there is an outage, they are unable to charge for energy consumption. While I understand energy bills are based off consumption, the inability to access the utility/service is a huge inconvenience that disrupts even the most basic daily functions. I've lived in Clark county indiana all my life with great customer service from Duke. Then in 2023 I moved out my rental so called to shut off my service in my name to be told they wouldn't help me til my balance was payed in full. Now I'm told I never called to do such thing so I owe a whole yr I never used cuz I moved out. Now in 2025 I got new house & they're refusing to turn on my new service. I offered multiple times to pay the balance I don't actually owe on the automated bill line, then when I did the auto billing isn't even working so I'm sent to a 3rd party with guys from another country who say they can take my payment but I don't trust giving my bank information to a 3rd party. A complaint against Duke Energy regarding improper final billing charges for services after my lease and residency ended. I submitted a disconnection request through Duke Energy's online portal prior to my move-out. However, due to what multiple customer service agents later acknowledged as a known system malfunction, I did not receive a proper confirmation, and my request appears to have been lost. Duke Energy is now requesting that I re-engage the property management to assume responsibility for the utility--despite my no longer having control of the unit or any agreement with the landlord. This situation was exacerbated by poor customer service and no disclosure on Duke Energy's website regarding the system error, depriving the chance to verify or escalate the issue in real time. I believe Duke Energy has acted in a way that is both unfair and potentially negligent in its handling of technical issues and its treatment of customers attempting to resolve honest disputes. read more

Horrible service with the gas portion of this set up. We are a new Ohio business and I have had to call every morning this week, spending 45+. They cannot restore the service. I first told they couldn't locate the meter in their system, then another rep told me it was an IT issue. I've been told at the end of each long call to call back in the morning. Now, Friday morning, the rep put me on hold and said she has to send someone back out ot restore service. UNREAL ! We have clinics in (7) states and I have never experienced such poor customer service, or lack of knowledge within their departments including New Construction. read more

Worst service company ever. I asked to be set up with quarterly billing. They put me on annual instead. While the monthly bill read 85, they took 741.21 without any written notification for 'yearly overages'. I did not ask them for that account type! Horrible value, poor customer service, and condescending and rude supervisors. The overages were not indicated anywhere on the bill, you have to dig through almost six screens to get to them. I received my next bill, paid it, then received my November bill. They added A $250 charge to my power bill. That's 3 months worth of power bill money for me. Duke Energy takes no responsibility for the disaster left in my yard and even on my power line to the house from the horrible tree trimmers they hire. So despite multiple calls to different departments, as the limbs that were cut by Buford were left on my lines and as the rains came and went, the limbs got heavier and heavier and eventually pulled the line off the house. Did Duke care, nope! Did Buford have to fix the mess, NOPE! After weeks of this, a very kindly crew that apparently did not get paid for all their work, fixed my issue. Of course because they were awesome, Duke Energy won't even pay them. Monopoly, no accountability and downright deceptive practices make Duke Energy a poor example of a necessary company. read more

We just came into our house (in Mason) and smelled gas at 9:30 on a Friday night. We opened up the house and called Duke. They said a technician would be here within an hour. He came within 20 minutes. His name was Matt and he was able to immediately find the leak on the regulator on our stove. He was clean, pleasant and really efficient! He was able to shut off the gas just to the stove so we didn't have to move out! WTG MATT and Duke for coming out quickly. GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! read more

I've been having billing problems. I live in a 4 family apartment. My apartment has no gas appliances, therefore I do not have a gas bill. For whatever reason, Duke continues to put a gas meter on my bill. This was a problem back in April into May, then my bills were correct for a few months, now all of a sudden my bill is 500 plus dollars because they put a gas meter back on my bill. The owner of the property has called multiple times to get the gas meter removed from my billing as he pays for the gas and I don't have any gas to my apt. This issue keeps happening and I've been dealing with it again for the past wk. I was assured Friday I'd have a credit on my account of 34 dollars and this will no long be a problem, now my bill is 449.51.. Duke continues to not take accountability for their continued mistakes and insists that i have gas but wont send a tech out to confirm. My home in Clermont was affected by Hurricane Milton. We lost power around Wednesday 11 pm. What was ridiculous is were got the power back after almost 5 DAYS on Sunday 12 pm. I have over a $200 credit with them because they billed me twice AND they turned my gas off at the road without notifying me!! This led to me buying a new gas dryer because I thought mine was broken...I had no idea they turned my gas off! I let them in my house multiple times to attach a new meter reader, but they were unable to because my meter was too old. The initial set up agent was great absolutely no issues there. What wasn't great and I do take issue with, is the next agent I was sent to, "for confirmation", which apparently was code for a relentless sales person trying to sell me internet packages. When I kept denying, stating I already had internet lined up, they questioned me about the service then claimed we were being mislead. When I claimed, "I just called to have my electricity moved to new address, I don't understand what's happened in right now..." they stated, "we are partners with spectrum why would I lie about it?" Long story short I told her she could send a quote and I'd look over the offer(mostly just to get out of the turmoil this call had become). Then I start receiving emails that my order was placed and an installation technician would be coming.... To add on an extra layer they then sent me to another "wrap up order" agent, which was code for trying to sell me security camera system. I informed him I didn't need a security camera system, to which he said let me know if you do and hung up I've used duke for years now and not exactly sure if throwing 3rd party sales agents at your customers is the decision I'd have made, in regards to customer service experiences it doesn't get much worst.
