Wow, they decided to change their annual billing program. The company (which, by their own admission, did worse in previous markets) sent me two months' bills on the same statement without marking the dates as such, gave me credit when no such credit existed, then took away that credit without a statement, and provided me with four different amounts due for May. The initial set up agent was great absolutely no issues there. What wasn't great and I do take issue with, is the next agent I was sent to, "for confirmation", which apparently was code for a relentless sales person trying to sell me internet packages. When I kept denying, stating I already had internet lined up, they questioned me about the service then claimed we were being mislead. When I claimed, "I just called to have my electricity moved to new address, I don't understand what's happened in right now..." they stated, "we are partners with spectrum why would I lie about it?" Long story short I told her she could send a quote and I'd look over the offer(mostly just to get out of the turmoil this call had become). Then I start receiving emails that my order was placed and an installation technician would be coming.... To add on an extra layer they then sent me to another "wrap up order" agent, which was code for trying to sell me security camera system. I informed him I didn't need a security camera system, to which he said let me know if you do and hung up I've used duke for years now and not exactly sure if throwing 3rd party sales agents at your customers is the decision I'd have made, in regards to customer service experiences it doesn't get much worst. I was transferred to "someone to confirm and verify your information" but was in fact transferred to hear an attempt by this third party marketing company (allconnect.com) to hook me up with deals (already available directly online). They made it seem like this was a necessary step for verification and required for my hookup to go through in what seems to be an attempt to keep me on the line. The sales person hounded me with questions about my needs and pushed projects ignoring questions about why we are even talking about internet and ignoring my polite assertion that I was only interested in completing the power hookup and not at all interested in any other non-Duke services at this time. This is incredibly shady. I did not consent to giving this company my personal information and was told again by the agent that this was a part of the Duke process to complete my energy hook up, in an apparent attempt to keep me on the line to sell me internet and other services. In investigating this and trying to determine what happened here, I was told various things about how that company is needed to provide technical details to Duke, like meter locations and finding addresses (things they didn't need 10 years ago), while others I spoke to said that they were just a third party there to sell us stuff but we consent to it before the transfer. But again, I was never asked if I'd like to transfer to a company to help me hook up other non-Duke services and provide personal information to facilitate this, I was told this is the next step to complete a power hookup by Duke, and by AllConnect. Well, most businesses like to focus on customer service and delivering a quality product. Not Duke Energy....I've been patiently waiting to connect my new electric service for over three months. I noticed that the existing power pole was rotten and should be replaced prior to my connection. Big mistake on my part... that's when Duke began to schedule the replacement. On Monday 2/21/2022 there was at a power surge event that fried the electric outlet to my Washing machine, and fried my Dishwasher. Duke Energy "denies liability" as per their normal response against the little guy, despite my paying them hundreds a month - even when I don't use any electricity or gas, which is multitudes more expensive than when I used Xcel in a different state. Back to my complaint. This was not a weather related power outage, as the weather was nice on Monday, and regular power outages, such as the one on 2/3/2022 for a few hours due to weather, do not throw my circuit breakers. This surge caused my circuit breaker for my refrigerator to be thrown off, and caused my neighbors' sump pump and hot tub breakers to switch as well. Some neighboring communities heard two "booms" by Foster-Maineville and the power went out. Some think it was an exploding transformer. Of course Duke Energy will deny this claim - what recourse do I have? They say I can appeal their denial with "proof" - how do I prove these components were working Monday morning, but due to surges are now broken? I'm not sure about all the negative reviews. They may be valid. I am writing this review from my personal experience. I have been a Duke customer since I rented my first apartment in 2015. Now, I have been a "consumer" of Duke Energy since before then, but 2015 is when the bill was in my name for the first time and I had to personally deal with Duke Energy as a business. My Electric bill in the apartment was in the high $60 range when I first moved in. I chose to be on even billing, which is amazing that this option is offered. I was informed that I had to pay a deposit of $110 since it was the first time the bill has been in my name. Within the first year, I had 5 months that I did not have to pay my energy bill at all due to over-payment due to even billing (huge energy savings on my part). The $110 deposit was also refunded to me during this time as part of a bill credit (and helped with the 5 months no payment). At the time of moving out of my apartment, my monthly bill was $42. It lowered about $10 each year. I bought my house in 2018. I moved states from KY to OH. The transfer of service was remarkably easy. I called Duke customer service: they scheduled service switches from out of my name to the landlord of the apartment and then from the previous owner of my house to my name. Super easy. I even picked the dates. Now, my house has both Gas and Electric services through Duke Energy. I am still using even billing - my house is about $130 a month. The only thing that I dislike is that there is a base Gas fee of ~$40 for a house. My house only uses Gas for my furnace and water heater. Obviously, I must keep the Gas on in the Spring/Summer/Fall because of the water heater. This is my only annoyance. Duke Energy offers many programs that help you as a homeowner (or renter) conserve energy. They send out light bulbs to your apartment/home for the first time for free so you can have more energy efficient lighting. I have taken advantage of this with every move. Duke also offers discounts on items for your house like the Nest thermostat. I ordered one through their website and saved $75 plus received a free Google Home Mini! I am also participating in the Power Management service where Duke will place a computer device on my A/C to help save the environment during heat waves. They will be here within the month to install. LOVE THIS! I also recently (as in yesterday) had Jim from Duke visit my home to provide me a FREE in-home energy assessment. Jim was so friendly and helpful. He gave me a home report of things that I should focus on replacing or upgrading to have a more efficient home. He also switched out 6 light bulbs in my house to LED to be more efficient. He switched the faucets/shower heads to have more energy efficient water flow. He inspected my home appliances, water heater, furnace, A/C, attic, and more. Letting me know what I can do to make them more efficient. He even had a tool that let him see where my home was leaking energy. And Duke doesn't sell any of these services. This is a courtesy. They do partner with contractors that you can find through Duke's website to hire them for the work, if you're not a DIY-er. All of this is FREE people. Take advantage! I learned so much about my home from beyond the initial home inspection when I bought the house. I can improve the quality of my home, save money, and ultimately SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. All in all, every experience I have had with Duke Energy has been a delight, from service personnel replacing my Gas/Electric meters to Jim inspecting my home. Power outages and price changes are always going to happen. Customer service being top notch is not always going to happen, but with Duke it has. I love Duke! read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! I wish I could give them zero stars. This company is HORRIBLE. I am trying to buy a home that has been winterized. They turned the gas on and turned the furnace on. Then because the thermostat needed new batteries they turned it back off. They couldn't wait 5 minutes for batteries to be put in the thermostat. I need the furnace on for my home inspection. They won't send a technician back to turn the furnace back on so now I have to pay $198 for an HVAC company to turn a knob and turn the furnace back on. It really sucks that they have a monopoly in the Cincinnati area. Our providers back in Maryland were so much better. Also, I asked to escalate to a supervisor and at first they wouldn't. Each month requires an hours long endeavor to get through the automated phone options and being connected to five different people, only to be dismissed with a meager promise that everything will be completely smooth going forward and just doing this again in 30 days. Billing is a disaster and we are always at fault, whether our bill increases 100 times over our usual amount, maintenance on the website/app won't allow bill payment and any potential late fees are not waived and 100% our responsibility, or auto pay never working consistently. There's never a clear and concise answer as to why any of this happens. They told me that her being on oxygen would not expedite a crew to her area that I should call 911 or move her to a place with electricity. This is a need to know for all! Apparently, anyone can put a utility bill in your name if they have your social and date of birth. You dont even have to show an ID applying online. So, remember this when giving your social security number to a small business you have worked for. They will use it for their home utilities, not pay, then you will get a call from a collection agency whom will tell you to pay or pay for an attorney. Per Duke, there is an affidavit you can fill out along with police report. But, this is something that needs to be corrected by Duke! read more

This isn't even the first location in which they dug up my yard, didn't notify me ahead of time (or during, or at all). These people. I have owned my 103 year old two family residence for 23 years and my downstairs tennant discovered a noticable odor of natural gas this afternoon. He notified me and I immediately contacted Duke emergency services. I informed the operator what the situation was with my tennant's and their newborn baby. She was very helpful and told us the necessary steps to take for safety. I was told a representative would be there within the hour. We vacated the premises and a repairmen arrived within 10 minutes. He detected a slight leak near the gas meter in the basement after thoroughly checking all the connections in the basement. He repaired the leak and assured us that we were safe to re-enter the apartments. I could not be more impressed with the response time and repairs by the Duke team.
