Do check and make sure the water exhibit is open that day if it's in the summer bc of day camps if you're really wanting to see that. It is the coolest exhibit imo but they had a huge train table, tent for pretend play and tons of other educational toys for kids in the other rooms too They also took us down to see the reptile exhibit with turtles, snakes and lizards and it's a scenic route with waterfalls and cool architecture. Couldn't love this place more; it's a must visit!

I got to try a bunch of beers from different breweries that I have heard of but never got the chance to try. Some of my favorites were: Steady Hand Beer Co - that Flower Business DOUBLE IPA though! Didn't taste like a strong double but nice and hoppy. I would have come back for more if I weren't so full of beer! Glad to hear they are opening up soon (if not already...) in Midtown! Orpheus - Sykophantes sour beer actually wasn't bad. I'm a little scared of Orpheus (since they're known for their sour beers) and sours in general, but I found it to e more subtle in the sweeter fig Sykophantes. Eventide - Red Headed Haley was a pretty smooth and easy drinking red ale. The cool can art was the best part of this beer, though. Crooked Stave - i didn't love this but their sour rosé was definitely very interesting - and tasted just like what you think a sour rosé would taste like. I was hoping to find some more interesting IPA's but they all tasted pretty standard. There were only a few food truck options, but the one I chose was great! Brookelynn's had a great hotdog cyclone that went great with my beer! Overall, I was pretty happy with the brewery turn out at the Duluth Beer and Wine Fest and excited to see them do another one next year!

I believe that this was the first of an annual event…read more You can find the Duluth Beer and Wine Festival in the Duluth Town Green at 3142 Hill Street Nw - Downtown Duluth is home to an outdoor amphitheater, Town Green with a fountain, Taylor Park, and City Hall - there's shopping (retail and restaurants) at the top of the hill. The event terraced from street level at the top of the hill to the amphitheater base and included about 50 vendors, mostly beer and a handful of wine distributors - the event was managed by the Atlanta Sport and Social Club. As with other events featuring beer, I volunteered as a first shift beer pourer for a local brewery, Good Word (who happened to be located in Downtown Duluth about a block from the venue). The event was moderately attended compared to others like the Atlanta Summer Beer Festival but I believe that was expected for a first year beer festival - I anticipate it to be quite crowded in subsequent years. The people pouring were all volunteers (some laws in Georgia prevent people from the breweries and distributors from pouring, but many were in attendance to answer questions and talk about their favorite subject). Afterwards I walked over to Good Word with Tiff H. and Michelle T and we shared a Cheese Board and a Brussels and Kale salad. The weather was clear and quite nice, if a bit hot (90's in October sucks). In all I think it was an awesome first festival and I hope to volunteer or at least attend next year.

I had heard about this event from the earlier event locations - this is a "pop-up" style market…read morethat moves around Atlanta, typically over a holiday weekend. On this occasion, it was the Memorial Day weekend on 2018.10.5 - 2018.10.07 and the market took place at the North Point Mall at 1000 North Point Cir, Alpharetta, GA 30022, along the side facing the JC Penny's anchor store. This is an outdoor vendor-oriented market featuring imported goods and a huge assortment of food. In Asia markets like these are done at night to escape the heat of the day - typically they go on pretty much all night but of course this US market is a bit more pragmatic. I met a friend after work on the first night (Friday) right when it opened, about 5:00 PM. The market was just getting started so some of the food vendors weren't quite ready and some tents were unoccupied, but this was remedied by the time we left. Admission was $10 but could have been less if we'd bought online prior to the event day - we decided to just pay at the gate. Oh and most of these vendors were cash only so keep that in mind - there are several ATMs but you get to pay those fees. I'd say that the "International" aspect was very well represented by a super diverse assortment of vendors and a crowd to to match. There were the typical saree and handbag sellers plus one booth that had leather jackets. I saw many, many different ethnic groups from all over the world - lots of fun to be had. There's also a stage with music that continued for most of the night with some live local acts and a DJ spinning a broad-time-spanning assortment of well-mixed dance music. But of course the real reason I attended was to sample the food. The food ranged from near-local to far reaching Asian - there were at least two different Lao vendors, Snackboxe Bistro and a Thai/Viet/Lao vendor that served Pad Thai, Papaya Salad and skewers of meat. There were also several Indian vendors including the nearby Dekkan Spice (very good) so a good mix of local restaurants, caterers and food trucks. I saw a couple of Halal places including a whole BBQ goat. We settled on a mix of Thai and Island cuisines, the latter being a veggie and noodle stirfry with teriyaki chicken. I thought both were quite good and less than $10. The Hawaiian rotisserie looked amazing but wasn't quite ready or I def would have gotten the pork ribs or turkey leg. There was also a vegan section with many restaurants within if what I described above scared you. I think there was plenty to sample something unusual and come away full. There were many drink vendors selling lassies and other cold drinks including many fruity drinks. I only saw one beer vendor but it was large and well placed sith several local craft brews - I ended up with a Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA but also say a Three Taverns sour and a Steady Hand Farmhouse Ale (Saisson) as options. Overall I liked the event but coudn't stay much more than the hour or so (commitments elsewhere) but did have fun while there. The people serving were really nice and accommodating and good about answering questions. It was starting to get crowded so that was my queue to get out anyway - I don't deal with the jostle of the crowds - when my beer gets bumped it's time to leave!

Hudgens offers a great variety of artist's works in many different formats. Those artists who contribute a great amount of work to the center even have their own sections dedicated to their works. Although I am not too big on "art galleries," I did find the Hudgens center to be somewhat interestingly captivating. Some of the paintings actually made me hallucinate just looking at them, because of the vivid trance causing design the artist created. I really liked the metal sculpture outside the building created by Rita Blitt named "The Passionate Gesture Retrospective Exhibition."

JapanFest -- A Nostalgic Visit It really brought back…read morememories of those days in Norcross High School, when my friends and I used to come to JapanFest together. It's been three or four years since I last went. There were classic cultural highlights like Sumo and Kendo, and even hands-on experiences such as archery and sword-cutting demonstrations. Up on the second floor, the Hands-on Experience area featured bonsai, ikebana (flower arrangement), and shodo (Japanese calligraphy) -- all worth visiting and exploring. The biggest highlight this year was definitely the "LINQ" idol group performance -- their sweet voices, energetic choreography, and youthful vibe filled the entire stage. I couldn't help but feel, deep down, "Ah, youth is truly wonderful." Picked up a "To You" CD, grabbed some Japanese street food, and just soaked in the atmosphere.

Today we headed over to the small town of Grayson to check out the Grayson Day Festival. This is an annual festival that occurs on the last Saturday in April. It is a great time for the community and visitors to come out and provide support to local businesses and for local businesses to educate the community regarding their services. We arrived very early this morning just before 9am and had time to make the rounds and check out the vendors prior to the start of the parade at 10am. Vendors included food, crafts, businesses, and churches. Although the music was pumping early when we arrived, I was disappointed to know that the performances would not start until 11:30. We were actually done an hour before this time and would have had to stand around for an hour and that just was not practical. I really love it when the entertainment begins earlier in the morning. By the time the parade ended at 10, we were ready to go as we had seen it all and it suddenly started to get warm. Attending festivals is the ultimate way to support small businesses. Listen up Yelpers! When you find a good festival vendor or happen to eat a good meal, shout it out! Get a name, take some photos and create a Yelp page to show support. It is a great way to help a small business get recognized and it is effortless. I actually met a vendor, (from Marietta), who made her own delicious English toffee. It was so good that I had to create a Yelp page and write a review. Well, her friend saw the review and told her about it so when I happened to just be strolling through an art show in Decatur, she recognized me and gave me a big hug. She was so appreciative and this was such a "feel good" moment that she made MY day. I later learned that she only does indoor shows and festivals. This is the only way for her to offer her chocolate because chocolate and heat spell disaster. Think about it and think about writing a review the next time you find a worthy vendor. *** Grayson won a live work play city award in 2017.
