Been skating here for a few now and I thoroughly enjoy it. They take good care of the ice here and it's fun to catch some hockey games too.

This isn't your average ice skating rink. Atlanta Ice Forum used to be the home skating rink of the Atlanta Thrashers, no longer a hockey team in Georgia, so the skating rink itself is quite nice for the public to enjoy. Coming here with family and friends has always been a pleasant experience. The arcade games inside the lobby is a nice plus since it is reminiscent of old school arcade games and the kids seem to enjoy them a lot. My kids enjoy the ambiance of this skating rink and I am glad this ice skating rink is here since it promotes active living and a healthy lifestyle. The skate rentals are pretty beat up but they are relatively in good shape compared to some other ice skating rinks I've been to. They have snacks and food that you can purchase but I have never eaten there so I can't attest to the quality of the food. The skating rink is generally never overly crowded although it can get a bit crowded at peak times with high schoolers. Overall, it's a nice place to skate and bring your family to. Patrick in the pro shop at Atlanta Ice Forum was AMAZING for my ice skate fitting - I highly recommend him if you need a professional fitting! He is extremely knowledgable, had so much patience, answered all my questions, and took the time to educate me on how fittings work/the different models. I can see why a lot of people rate this place 2 or 3 stars, especially if they're an ice skating, figure skating, or hockey enthusiast. I am none of those and have only been to the Duluth Ice Forum for their public skating sessions, when the rink is not reserved for another activity. When compared to seasonal, more "touristy" (not sure if that's the appropriate word to use here) ice skating rinks around town, like the ones at Centennial Park and Park Tavern, the Ice Forum is way better because it's much bigger and the ice is well-maintained. The Ice Forum is a practice facility for the Gwinnett Gladiators and was previously used by the Atlanta Thrashers. There are two rinks inside the facility and they are both regulation size. It's immediately apparent as soon as you step on the ice, how much slicker it is at the Ice Forum when compared to the rinks at the parks. Whereas the park ice rinks have all sorts of groove marks in them, the ice at the Ice Forum is regularly resurfaced by a Zamboni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_resurfacer). That difference alone makes the Ice Forum superior to the other places. In my experience, rental ice skates, no matter where they're from, do not fit comfortably. In comparison to other rinks, the skates at the Ice Forum "fit" the best. My feet and ankles were not as sore after skating in them when compared to the skates at the other rinks. As Amanda D. pointed out in her review, the Ice Forum does not carry half sizes, so you may not find the perfect fit. Skate rental is $3 and admission to the ice rink is $7. The public sessions last 1.5 to 2.5 hours and a schedule of the days and times of the sessions can be found on the Ice Forum's web site (http://www.iceforum.com/Page.asp?n=23040&snid=jIJF%5B7D7X&org=iceforum.com). $10 for two hours of ice skating is not bad. The ice rink is indoors, well-lit, and there is a DJ that plays music during the public sessions. Went here after going to two other local rinks with the kiddos and have to say that this one was the best of the three we went to. The kids had a great time, staff was friendly enough and they actually have two rinks (one public and one for hockey games). The bar above the rear rink has a good selection of draft brews and an awesome view of the rink below. Will definitely plan to return to watch a hockey game in the bar! read more

"Saturday Night's Alright" For some reason, I heard Elton in my head when I walked into the Ice Forum. Don't ask me why . . . maybe it was just kind of the retro feeling of the place, the old kind of roller skate/ice skate birthday party kind of smell-and-feel of the place . . .who knows. Anyway, last night was a totally cool (ha, no pun intended, since ice was involved!) kind of night. My good friend's boyfriend plays in an amateur league and they had a game up at the Ice Forum. She needed a wing woman, and I have decided to branch out and try things out of my normal routine this year, so I found myself OTP and having quite a good time watching grown men gliding around the rink battling it out quite handily, while we caught up on gossip and enjoyed a few cocktails! We put in our time on the bleachers - note: it is very chilly rinkside so take extra layers if you plan to stay down there very long - and then enjoyed the bulk of the game from our birdseye view up in the bar/grill. While we got some side-eyes as we walked in - let's just say that Buckhead girls like us didn't really, um, blend seamlessly right away - we made friends with staff and other fans and enjoyed a lovely night. I didn't grow up with hockey, but I do enjoy watching it. And the boys were happy since the tying/losing team (ours) still got a "free pitcher-and-a-half-ish" of beer, so we all got to hang out for awhile amicably after the game. The bartender even makes a pretty tasty lemon drop martini, according to my friend. We can both vouch for their tasty fries. Apparently, there IS fun to be had in Duluth, after all!! read more

Grew up learning to skate here. Now as an adult I bring my kids to learn. Still my favorite place to skate in GA.

We came here as a family yesterday and really enjoyed our time here. I have been to this rink in the winter and it was overly crowded, this time it is the summer (yesterday) and the rink was not busy at all. The kids had lots of room to skate around, no one was bumping into them or skating rudely (which was what we encountered this past winter). They played family friendly music, the price was manageable $8, and everyone had a good time. A tip for the parents, there is a bar upstairs that has really good food, not like bar food, and it overlooks the private ice rink so you can watch hockey practice or whatever is going on at the time. read more

We were visiting relatives in Atlanta this February when my daughter decided she wanted to go skating. I'm sorry, I have never seen such a sorry, disorganized rink in my life. There were no employees on the ice to keep things safe, you know, to direct people? People were skating all over the ice and in the wrong direction of traffic. At every rink I've been at, there are cones set up to prevent skaters from entering the center ice, which is where the serious skaters practice. My kid want to practice her backwards crossovers and couldn't because rude skaters were knocking her down! The rental skates were horrendous...garbagey plastic things, not even with a lining of some kind, just injection molded blue plastic, and the blades hadn't been sharpened since Christ died. Even at the busiest rinks in IL, I haven't seen rental skates this shoddy. The "bleachers" if you could call them that, were like what you'd see at the little league baseball diamond...three or four rows of aluminum seating, even at the highest point, you're almost level with the ice and can't really see the skaters....which, if my kid is skating in a crappy rink in another state and people are knocking her down, damn it, I want to be able to see her and the schmuck who knocks her down, so I can shove my foot up his ass when he gets off the ice. And this is supposed to be the practice rink of the Thrashers?? This place REALLY sucks and needs a major rehab. read more

The reason I'm giving 1/5 stars is because the second you walk into the rink no one is there to help you it's just empty until you're finally greeted by an extremely rude receptionist I think her name was Alex. She acted as if she didn't care if we skated here or not. The hockey players were more helpful than her. Don't waste your time coming here their skates are about to fall apart. Go to a rink where the employees value the customers and make it a pleasant experience for everyone. Such a waste of time. read more

I was reading some of the reviews and what can I say people are entitled to their own misguided opinions. My only complaint is that in the Youth Hockey Programs the travel teams are treated like gods and the house league kids/parents are under appreciated and under valued. But whatever, that only speaks to the youth hockey, and hopefully they'll get their shit together and realize that everyone that spends the kind of money you need to play hockey at any level is a valued customer. That is the only thing that kept me from giving Ice Forum 5 stars - and it is the only blemish, in my opinion. Having two, of my four, boys that learned how to skate there and having played in leagues myself I have to say that the rink has a special place in my heart. After moving to Los Angeles and playing at several rinks out here I definitely have gained an appreciation for the Ice Forum. When I played hockey in Duluth the adult league did an amazing job of regulating sand baggers or ringers. Out here I play in two leagues and neither rink cares; if a team pays their dues up front apparently ringers are okay. I've only found one rink that comes close to the facilities that the Ice Forum (Duluth) had, in terms of quality. And nothing compares to the Break Away Grill! I really miss the sense of community with the hockey players out in the ATL. As for public skating and skate rentals. Well yeah rental skates suck. You're renting shoes that a thousand other people have worn. What'd you honestly expect? They're like bowling shows with blades! And having seen dozens of ignorant morons walking on the metal bleachers scraping the blades on any piece of metal they can find yeah it stands to reason they will be dull. Um, that's what happens. If you want good skates then buy a pair, they're not that expensive depending on what you get. I'll admit they should always have skating guards out on the ice, but there is never a shortage of employees to complain to. And they are responsive, especially if you approach them nicely - it is the South and decorum goes a long way. And usually if there is a skating class the instructors will correct negative behavior. But as for the cross over queen, Adele, I'm sorry your daughter didn't get the center ice to herself. I don't remember any law requiring that figure skaters get special treatment...Trust me some of the rudest skaters on the ice are preteen figure skaters that feel entitled to the entire rink and give you complete attitude for getting in their way. As for the view from the bleachers it's just fine, why don't you get off the cell for awhile and if you really want involvement in your child's skating get off your fat lazy ass and join her on the ice. read more

Nothing stellar, but I'd go back again. The only rink I can compare this to is the one they have each year in Centennial Olympic Park, which isn't very impressive. The skates I had were in rough shape, but at least they were the lace up kind. I can't use the kind with buckle closures. Just like any type of rental shoe, I don't expect them to fit well. When we left, I noticed that they don't spray the skates with disinfectant...EWH! So I may have to take my own can of Lysol with me next time. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was a boy scout troop there. Joy! There was one kid that I'm pretty sure skated the wrong direction the whole 2 hours, and there was no staff on the ice to keep an eye on everyone. The rink was busy, but not so much that you couldn't get around. There were a couple of close calls with kids not paying attention, and small children on the ice. Also, they do bring the zamboni out to resurface the ice after an hour of sakating. The ice was great compared to the rink in COP. read more

I want to start this off by saying rental ice skates are absolute crap. If you wear a half size, and you don't have perfectly shaped feet (not too flat, not too arched) you are probably screwed. You may luck out, like I did just once, and get a size that fits. Or you can almost fall over just trying to walk to the ice, despite having the skates be super tight. They do NOT have half sizes and it sucks. Also, know your men's size, ladies. If you go up and say 7, you will have the equivalent of a women's 9.5 or so. If you really want to ice skate, I'd say look into a pair of used skates...these are just...let's just say while trying to think of a way to describe them, my immediate reaction was to shake my head. I was kind of relieved I couldn't even skate. It looked chaotic out there. I barely get how to skate still so I would have been fallen by the end. Like previous comments the ice does look kind of sketchy. For all that goes on, I don't think they stop to clear it at all at any point. On another note, the Thrashers' practice rink is not this one. It is to the left , through the doors next to the restaurant. It looks much nicer, and I guess it's better taken care of because I've never seen one of them wipe out. It was kind of depressing to see the Gladiators practicing on that public skate rink with all their equipment bags just laying out in the area. I would assume most hockey is played on this rink, seeing as it's in the picture posted here. So: non-public free skate rink is obviously nice, rental skates are gross, and Thrashers practices are fun to watch...check out the schedule, they are free to watch and then you can watch three of them drive away in a Maserati and laugh. Facility is definitely in need of an upgrade. Women's bathroom has one old crappy air hand dryer (no towels--so be prepared to wipe your hands on your pants) and one soap dispenser (which is just as likely empty as full). It's just dated in appearance. Maybe a fresh coat of paint a some new tables and chairs in the cafe' area would help. Plus, there is inadequate seating outside of the arena for those who don't want to sit inside and freeze while their kids skate. The seating in the arena area is metal bleachers. Metal. In the cold. Bring a blanket or a stadium seat or something. Need vending machines that accept credit cards. No one carries cash any more. The staff is a bit aloof and we had a difficult time getting an instructor (but the one we FINALLY have is awesome). The lady that fits skates knows her stuff but she is a bit hard to mesh schedules with--I don't think she is full time with the forum. The pro shop rarely has anyone in it--except at night. Basically, there seems to be an culture of "you need us--we don't need you." Could be a really great place to go. Now, it's just "meh." Unfortunately, without traveling an extra hour, there aren't any other facilities close. read more

I have been twice and each time I forget that the parking lot...has no lights. There are light poles, but do not work. It seemed fairly priced for skates. The second time the rink temperature felt much colder, definitely bring some kind of hat/toboggan, and gloves. The skates were okay. It's a busy area during the weekends, as one would expect. There is a bar upstairs that looks over the other rink, where hockey teams play/practice. I don't know why it doesn't over-look both rinks. Fro those looking for a fun evening, it's a fun time. The morning we checked the hours the place was open until 5:30 in their website and on google. But when we get there they're open for 45 minutes after we get there only 20 minutes after they open! for almost 45$ to skate for 45 minutes would have a horrible deal. They then hateful explained that we were on the wrong website which we weren't. Normally this is a great place with decent service but not today. read more

I took figure skating lessons here from June 2017 to June 2018 and I absolutely loved it. At first I felt silly as an adult learning to ice skate, but they made me feel right at home. Coach Vicky and Coach Amy definitely helped boost my confidence, in and off the rink. They cater to different learning styles and definitely make it feel fun, no matter what age you are. I have been to several ice rinks in my day. I used to figure skate and I have two brothers who grew up playing hockey. Needless to say I spent a good 5 years of my life with the rink as my second home. I have seen some of the best and worst rinks out there. When I moved to GA I knew that ice sports wouldn't be that big of a deal down here but with three rink options in the area it's not too shabby. I went to this rink when it first opened right after moving here. It used to be nice but now it's run down. Some areas definitely need some updating - like the restrooms. I expected it to be better maintained since it serves as the practice facility for both the Gwinnett Gladiators and Atlanta Thrashers. Anyway, the public skate session I went to on Sunday was quite chaotic and to be honest, a little bit dangerous. I'm used to public skating sessions where there are employees skating around actually paying attention to the patrons. Not at this place. At one point a little boy fell, hitting his head and the skate patrol or whatever just kept skating by him. One of the other patrons had to help get him off the ice. That's just totally unacceptable in my opinion. The employees also didn't do anything to enforce skating courtesy. They just let everyone do whatever the heck they wanted. With all kinds of little kids and people just being crazy it makes for a dangerous environment. Also, they need to clear the ice more frequently...the ice was for shit and there were giant puddles of water at both ends were the hockey goals would be. Anyway, I love skating so I'm going to try and go back Friday night for another public session. I'm hoping there won't be as many people, especially not so many out of control kids. As of right now I definitely prefer the Ice Forum in Kennesaw as its not as crazy during public skate. read more

This place is a dump. They have no maintenance and it's very obvious. The place is dirty and in very bad need of a deep clean. Multiple lights out in the rinks, scoreboards that you cant read cause bulbs are burnt out and trash everywhere. Not sure what they use all my hockey money and skate rental money for cause it sure doesn't go to the upkeep of the facility. With all the newer nicer rinks in the Atlanta area, it's amazing that this place is sooooo crappy. read more

We've skated here before and I agree with the other reviews regarding the age of the skates. The last time we went, they were very worn. Not sure if that has changed since as it's been a few months. Other than that, we enjoyed the skating experience. But, my main reason for the lower rating is due to my experience in trying to book a party. I was just trying to get basic info and it was a challenge - was referred to the website - not helpful at all and made me feel as if they didn't want my business. we tried to go to this facility on a day the place was meant to be open and there's was 1 car in the parking lot and we pulled up to the front of the building and it was 1:00 pm. and we tried to open the door and it was locked. all of them and it was a Sunday morning and it was meant to be open at 10:00 am. all the doors were locked and we even tried to call them and nobody answered the phones and we ended up having to leave after we're all ready to go and we had a very bad experience with this facility and i would not recommend to go there because this is insanity. this place is trash and i'm gonna throw my bible at it so Jesus can help them because i am so triggered and HAVE LOST ALL MARBLES and i will not stand for this #boycotttheforum now i am a happy child of Jesus on my way to jump street. i was excited. complete disappointment. read more

I've never been ice skating so I have nothing to compare this place to. It gets packed with skaters of all ages and all levels of experience. It's fine for me since I'm a beginner. I went on a Sunday during open skate (2-4) and I think there was a kids birthday party. It was packed with little ones. Then I went on a Friday night and there were less people. There were more high schoolers that night and many rowdy careless boys that I felt would knock me over if I got in their way. The skates - like all rental shoes - stink to the high heaven and it smells like a locker room out in the skate rental area. After an hour of open skate they Cambodia the ice cuz it gets really bad. This was my very very first ice skating experience. I can't say I was impressed, I was basically trying to avoid falling the entire time. The skates were the worst I'd ever seen. As in "make sure you layer your socks" nasty. :( Other than that, great customer service, friendly staff, and aside from the teenagers good time on the ice. After reading a previous comment I'm not sure about the safety deal. There was no one on the ice, but then again, there's no one on the skating rink floor either. read more

After reading the other reviews on this site, I was a bit apprehensive about going to this rink, especially for my first time ice skating, fearing the deplorable venue that has been described. When I first walked into the door, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find an entirely different atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, enthusiastic, and courteous. It was specifically addressed that all skaters were to skate in one direction. There was an employee on the ice at all times to ensure that everything was kept in order. He frequently checked up on my friend, who isn't very gifted when it comes to ice skating, making sure that she was alright. Not only were the employees very pleasant, the other people skating were cautious and considerate. Overall, I had a phenomenal experience and will most likely bring more friends and family members in the future. read more

We have been here for the youth hockey Turkey Shoot Tournament the past couple of years. This is a nice place that is kept clean and nice staff. Also, been here for TPH clinics and my son really loves these. This is a great rink and having the two sheets of ice is great. Lobby is separate from the rinks so people that can not take the cold may stay warm. My only complaint is the parking sucks during tournament time because the parking lot is not big enough. But to be honest, I really have not been to a rink here in the south yet that has enough parking during a tournament. Hate that Atlanta did not have enough interest and support in hockey to help keep Thrashers here, but love for hockey is still here by some so we must hold on to it. This is our second season of youth hockey at this rink and so far we like the program. We are in the house ledge and have had a great experience with all the coaches, they seem to want to teach the basic skills as well and advanced ones. The travel program does seem to over ride the house ledge at times. The only problems we have had was our first year of playing, the jersey was a little small and we requested a larger size. We were promised it several times but we never received it. We also play roller hockey at another place and when you register to play you enter the size of the jersey you need, makes it simple. Once a kid has all those pads on it is hard to get a too small jersey on over them. The staff is friendly but most are not informed about the hockey programs. If I asked a question they never could answer it and told me to call and ask another person, which I could never reach. The ice seems in great condition and they service it often. The bleachers are fine but metal bleachers are COLD, lol. The place could use a good cleaning especially under the bleachers where things have fallen through to to floor. Maybe some updating in the bathrooms (a better hand dryer or some paper towels would be great), The locker rooms reek, but that is hockey for ya. read more

Duluth Ice Forum or as most people call it down here the Atlanta Ice Forum. This Ice Forum has 2 rinks. One for youth hockey and recreation and the other for the Atlanta Thrashers. We call the recreational one the Blue Rink and the Thrashers the Yellow Rink. Most times public skating is on the blue rink. This place is fabulous for where its located and the city too. Public Skating will cost at least 10$ unless you have your own pair of skates. They have a grill that over views the whole rink which is pretty cool. The staff is very nice and pleasant. They know what to do. They also have a pro shop, but very expensive. They also offer Learn how to skate classes throughout the year, and the best part is that it never closes, not even on labor day! They have travel hockey teams here as well as house league. Its a very nice place actually, people call it dreaded because the rental skates are horrible. I'll even admit they are, but what can you expect, this is Atlanta, its a little more harder to find people who like hockey, so they buy low end skates, but who cares, a great person skates well with any type of skate. I had my kids birthday at this place. I only have to say that I will not do it there and I will not recommend it to anyone. The place does not know how to serve customers. They charged double for Pizza, which was not even delivered on time. After asking for several times they kept saying its on its way while hungry kids kept waiting then the manager shows up saying its here. It wasn't. Then we wait 30 more mins. Manager came and apologized. She also promised that she would discount my bill to make it better. When I reminded the cashier she started showing attitude. She said its not their fault that that Pizza did not come on time. And she went even further to tell me that I used the room for few minutes longer and they are not charging me for that as a favor. I do not care if the the Pizza was late or they had bad customer service but the attitude made it all horrible. Please refrain from having any type of party at this place. read more
