A local told us about this place. Glad we checked it out since it led us to a cutesy area filled with shopping and dining near the lake. Apparently this place is well know for their "packs". The store has various items to fulfill your outdoor needs. 3 stars as the place was filled with a lot of other brands and very pricey for those items labeled as "Duluth pack" and when all it was a shirt labeled with their logo. I ended up purchasing pullover for $80 which I saw very similar styles at other stores for $60. Bright-side...MN has no sales tax.

Today, my fiancé and I, set off in search for an axe, for our needs for when we are out hiking and camping in the woods. Cassie absolutely loves this store, she's gotten 3 different bags and a hatchet from here among other small things such as stuffed animals, cast iron skillets, and books. We even got our son, Tristan, an awesome summer dress shirt from here that was super comfortable. We talked about getting a long handle axe for a while and today was the day. There was only a few axes that were available but after the clerk was kind of enough to let us see them and get a feel for them we went with the Scandinavian Forest Axe. Even though this was one of their high end axes we knew this would be the best fit for us. We were looking at another axe which was considerably less which had a really light handle, an exclusive hand painted camp axe painted midnight blue. I'm sure it's a nice axe but we knew what felt better in the end and we are both happy with our purchase. We were happy to find out as well that our new axe has a 20 year warranty in the case there is any defects with the blade or handle. Not only are the products at Duluth Pack good quality but they are long lasting. The bags here have a lifetime warranty on them, we have had to have one patched before and was returned to us practically brand new again. The customer service here is amazing as well. Everytime we walk in they greet us and make sure all of our camping, hiking, and tool needs are met. Can't wait to come back! Thanks everyone who made our experience there one not to forget! #schroyerfamily #schroyerfamilydaily #camping #hiking #axe #axes #duluthpack

It's no secret that Duluth Pack products aren't cheap. But I do definitely believe that they fall into the category of "you get what you pay for." I actually love this store because it's a great chance to check out all of the bags and products you might order online and actually kick the tires, so to speak. You can see how the different sizes compare, feel the actual materials, see what the colors look like in real life, feel the ruggedness and smell the leather -- all before you set your heart and order a $200+ bag. I actually like the ability to see it in person before I buy it. Plus it's just really fun to look at all the bags! This store is just a retail location -- they don't make the bags here. And it's right in Canal Park, which is a bit on the touristy side. Still, the merchandising here is smart. In addition to all of the Duluth Pack products, the store is also kind of a general store for all things north woodsy and a good amount of apparel and other small type items that one might buy when on vacation and in a shopping mood in Duluth. It's a fun store to shop (where else can you buy north woods wild jam and a loon-shaped cookie cutter in one place?) and is worth the stop even if you're just looking and don't end up buying anything.

My husband is hard on his belts, and it's very difficult to find high quality, real leather belts.

I want to update that after working directly with the team at Frost River. They followed through and made it right. The waist belt arrived as promised, and it's exactly what I expected. I also received clear clarification that the belt is intended more for stability than true load-bearing, which helped set appropriate expectations for how this pack is designed to perform. More importantly, I want to acknowledge how this was handled. Richard and the team took the feedback seriously, made meaningful updates to their product page to prevent future confusion, and went above and beyond with thoughtful extras and a handwritten note. That level of accountability goes a long way. The pack itself is outstanding--top-tier craftsmanship, materials, and build quality. In the end, they stood behind both their product and their customer, and I'm glad to be keeping it.

That's…read moreonly where you need to go to pay for a ticket to enter Tom's Logging Camp, the 4-star attraction here. Tom's Logging Camp ($5 per person) is a self guided walk on a trail behind the souvenir shop. It's a peek into what an actual logging camp was like, something I assure you I'd never once in my life thought of before visiting here. It's kind of a fun little stroll. You peer into or walk through cabins that have handwritten explanations of what you're seeing. The signs explain everything from the equipment the loggers used to the food they ate, to the jobs of the cooks and the blacksmiths. It was here that I learned that the Finnish workers, when they arrived on Duluth's North Shore, were the hardest workers but they'd work only in camps with saunas. Tom's Logging Camp erected a sauna, naturally, because Tom wanted Finnish workers. I also learned that loggers were filthy and drank heavily: * In the bunkhouse, a top bunk was in demand as the bugs crawling on you would fall downward, preying instead on the inhabitant of the lower bunk; and * A special cabin has been erected here to let visitors emulate the experience of being a drunk logger. Everything leading to and inside that cabin is askew and somehow, it had me chuckling exactly as I'd imagine a drunk logger might. Boy, did I learn a lot of useless interesting stuff here! As you walk the trail you can purchase food to feed trout then goats and finally, llamas. So come to Tom's Logging Camp to have the fun experience of a llama eating out of your hand, being a faux-drunk, and learning a bit about life in a Minnesota logging camp.
