Located in the same complex as Fitgers in Duluth, Trailfitters is a large shop for all your outdoor needs. They remind me of Midwest mountaineering in the cities because they have multiple rooms with outdoor gear depending on what you need or want to do. It can be overwhelming at first but they have signs above most of the rooms to guide you. It was very crowded since we were here before the Christmas holiday, but there were plenty of Santa's helpers to assist with our search for socks. When you live in MN socks are everything during the winter. I rejoice when I receive wool socks as a gift #adulting #MNisCold They have both darn tough and smart wool brands which a solid variety of lengths and colors. Outside of the twin cities this would be my next stop. It's also great if you need to pick up something along the way. I definitely recommend asking a helper if you're looking for something specific since it's easy to get lost looking at the ways we keep ourselves warm, and choose to engage in risky behavior like water rafting. For some reason, every time we go to Duluth, we find ourselves needing some piece of outdoor gear we forgot at home. Trailfitters has pretty much become our go-to place to make up for our forgetfulness. It's on the second floor (below street level) of the Fitger's complex and is a really nicely appointed outdoors store. I guess I'd say it's kind of like a locally owned and smaller REI, sans climbing wall. But if you have a need for a windbreaker, rain jacket, caribiner or coat, Trailfitters will hook you up just fine. The prices are not low -- no outdoors gear is ever cheap, right? But we have found a few deals there when we catch a sale or a clearance time at the end of a season. Staff is generally friendly but is relaxed -- generally you need to seek them out if you have a question or need help. They're not really the type of staff that approaches every customer and asks if they need help. I guess just more of a relaxed vibe, if you will. Oh, and if you're staying in the hotel at Fitger's, there's a coupon in your welcome packet that will help you save a few bucks. read more

Jul 30@7:30pm trail fitters So- i am at trail fitters inside fitzgers...was trying on clothing. Was asked to leave MY PURSE behind counter which i did ANOTHER lady walked out with her decent sized purse in tow just out of fitting room I did bring it up NICELY i said "sorry but just seeing her walk out with her PURSE made me feel like crap" Tthey apologized but i said thats ok...just save it I told them.... "Just so u know it makes customers feel bad. Next time please dont do this " Btw- my purse was left ON THE FLOOR just barely behind the counter. Sales staff move around. My purse is within reach of someone just reaching around and grabbing my purse. There is no respect or regard for my belongings (my purse) which has keys and a few credit cards and iphone. Not to mention my medications. The ones i need a few times a day (yep...the ones i cannot skip) or else i will be fighting for my life. ‍ I am so pissed just thinking of how easily my purse could have been snatched by a stranger. I sent a mass text out to all my friends families and their relatives detailing my experience. You can bet they will-not shop here. And they will post on facebook, instagram,and other social media platforms. Its sad to be treated like this. In the past, we bought many pairs of shoes, 4 pairs of jeans at over 100 per pair, many wool tops, many wool scarves, 4 pair of wool leg warmers, quite a few purses, wool hats,wool gloves and 4 down skirts and a heavy down jacket. This is just me....this isnt counting my husband and teenage kid. They bought Yeti and hydroflask containers from them as well as shoes jackets and pants. We as a family will never spend our $$ here. We will drive to the cities for shopping. Its too bad...i really wanted to support local stores but not at the expense of blatant preferred treatment. Sorry-....not going to happen. We will be spending our hard earned money in the cities at a store where we are treated with respect and dignity and not made to feel like crap. read more

I could not be more grateful for the customer service here! I bought a pair of $200 hiking boots only to discover that they caused crippling pain. I, of course, did this on a hike, through the mud. Several staff worked with me to try inserts and new lacing but ultimately a new pair of boots. On top of it, they wanted to make sure that I didn't just lose $200 in the process so worked with me to return my boots! Fantastic!! read more
