Super shop on a side street. It isn't hard to guess what Duly Noted Stationary is all about, but after a quality browse, I was fully impressed with this shop's spectrum of writing related equipment Cards for all occasions and all ages, writing pads, tissue and wrapping paper means Frame-It considers the bigger picture in its realm of services. Everything is tasteful and unique-- making you think you really do need that cute magnetic writing pad. Lots of gift giving potential and luxury tools if you're a note taker. A glass-encased selection of ball-point pens ooze elegance, but at a price. Be prepared to spend $75-200 for one sweet ass pen. Worth it? I haven't done my research, but I'll stick to my Papermates for now. Overall, great store that will make you want to spend. Pretty things for those who love to write, record, list and gift. Discrete by location, but vibrant in offerings.

What a treat! One of the things I miss about not living in Toronto are stationary stores like this one. So glad I stumbled in! I love the vibrant colors of wrapping paper on racks, the scores of unique cards and...a guilty pleasure - moleskin notebooks. I used to make fun of my husband for holding them in such high esteem - it's said that Hemingway wrote all his ideas in his moleskin journals. My favorite are the small, brightly coloured versions that can fit into my purse...perfect for jotting down inspirations. But I digress, the point is, Duly Noted has a huge selection. If you're in need of invitations, this seems to be the place to visit. And the staff will be more than pleased to help out. While I was there, a couple were choosing their wedding invitations and it was hard to tell who was more excited about the choices. Not looking for paper...there are lots of cute little stationary related gifts as well.

Duly Noted has quickly become my favourite stationary place in the city. It's so cute and has some of the best local cards and prints! I also love to go in oggle the impressive array of pens and local goodies (candles, mugs and soap.) They have some gorgeous wrapping paper from prestige brands like Rifle Paper Co. (one of my favourites) and they do custom wedding invitations too. I haven't used that part of their services, but I love going in and browsing. Everyone who works there is super friendly and knowledgable!

Deserres has everything from scrapbooking items to a rather large framing center. They've got a diverse selection of paints and colours, as well as a lot of different canvases to work with, in all shapes and sizes. There's even a kids section with fun projects for children of all ages. What I really liked about Deserres is that it's nicely mapped out. There are large signs above head indicating what is in each section. Everything from the fine arts to graphic arts is conveniently labelled so you know exactly where to go. I had a couple of questions about products and the nice salesman was very eager to help. He told me everything a I needed to know and even gave me other options to choose from. I was very grateful for his help. I really enjoyed just browsing through this store at all that they have, even if I wasn't interested in buying most of it. I thoroughly enjoyed how organized they were. It made it easy to be in there.

I was impressed to pop in last Saturday and find pink pipe cleaners. (A naturally integral component of my Halloween costume) Deserres also carries those stick on wall designs that you've probably started noticing. These are super funky and a nice alternative to sponge painting your bedroom, etc. They also come in a chalk board variety so your grocery list can be a tad more noticeable 2'x3' tacked to your wall. Definitely recommend trying this art store out! Lots of great gift wrapping paraphernalia too!

Never mind the colourful sign indicating its whereabouts, you still have to enter through doors prior to the shop and manoeuvre your way through the small halls with low ceilings. But hey, once you've found it, you'll always know how to get there. Okay, difficulty locating it aside, this is a pretty nice little art store. It isn't too big so you don't feel overwhelmed by different gadgets, but it still has all the necessary tools for the true artist. Sadly, that isn't me. I didn't know where to look or where to even start. Lucky for me, it is small so there wasn't much room for getting lost. I ended up finding something that seemed like what I needed, but when I asked the clerk if it would be suitable for my project, he simply responded with, "I don't know." That was all. I was hoping for a little more help than that. I think he could sense I wasn't the artsy type and therefore snubbed me a bit. Even when I asked a couple more questions his response was always the same. I didn't feel too confident about my project after that. At least I know I can find this place again if I ever decide to try another project. Perhaps I'll be given a different answer than, "I don't know," to any question I may have.

Its just a tiny little thing, but packed with a wide variety of art supplies and books of the art related. The store lay out is straight forward and well maintained, making it easy to find what you're looking for. I've found they can run low in stock on special items throughout the school year if there's a NSCAD class requiring specific materials. But most of the time they are pretty good for having things on hand. They have a lovely selection of paper. From Mayfair to more exquisite, textured Japanese papers... certainly a highlight for me! From all the basics to the more nit-picky tools, the NSCAD Supply Store has a well rounded body of product and at reasonable prices. There are also certain items they keep behind the counter, so if you're having trouble finding it, ask an employee! The books are mainly there for classes, however if you're interested in learning some art history or teaching yourself photography, the selection offers a great platform for some self education! I'd recommend this store for all creative individuals around the city!

The art supply area of the store has cute postcards, stamps, stickers, journals, planners, pens, jewelry beads, tea sets and so much more. The teahouse portion offers hot beverages, as well as, vegan and nonvegan light food fare. Vegan options include a rice, seaweed and mushroom soup (doesn't sound like much but it's actually delicious), a fruit breakfast bowl with rice, green onion and seasame pancakes and candied walnuts. They also offer soy milk for drinks or to bring home. The gentleman who has always been working when we have gone (I believe he's also the owner) is very nice as well. They have a nice seating area and my favourite spot is the window where there are stools. There's a little rock garden with adorable plants and cacti. It's simply heavenly. Even achieving one of these objectives is a challenge on most days. Not at Jennifer's. Every item in the store - everything - is from Atlantic Canada, and most of it is from Nova Scotia. I could have wept with joy. The risk with stocking exclusively local crafts is that it can easily veer into patchouli-scented, rayon-based, weekend music festival territory. Again, not at Jennifer's. Lovely, interesting, well-made products abound. They had a whole corner of ladybug-themed pottery that was reasonably priced and can be used in the dishwasher and the microwave. What else could I want? They had fused-glass kitchen items, Amos pewter pieces and greeting cards. Even the check-out experience was charming. They prop your purchase on an old, wooden counter and wrap it with paper and put it in a box (not plastic). They'll wrap your purchase in cardboard to protect it if you are travelling. I half-expected them to pull out brown paper packages and wrap them up with string... I really don't like shopping, but shopping here was a delightful experience. Pop around the corner to Pete's Frootique for a refreshing beverage after you're done.
