Visiting the Web site of Dunham's Sports, I was happy to see that I could buy the exact model of firearm that I wanted from their nearby store. I drove there and went to the gun section in the back of the store, finding the gun in the glass case, but no employee was around. I waited for a quarter of an hour, and no one appeared. I walked around, looking for someone, and the only two employees I could find were manning the cash registers at the front of the store, and they couldn't come back to the rear and help me. I left the store very frustrated, seeing the item I wanted to buy, but not being able to buy it. For an expensive purchase like this, I want to do it in person, but this store is seriously understaffed. I had to reluctantly go somewhere else. read more

Called to ask if I could return a defective baseball bag called a CP Clutch baseball backpack. The zippers are so cheap and thin, they snap with the simplest of pulls to open and close the bag. I spent hundreds of dollars when I bought the bag and I wanted to exchange the bag with an Easton brand bag instead and pay the $45.00 difference. I explained that to the associate on the phone and he told me that I needed the receipt, which I have, and the original bag tags and it needs to be in its original packaging ( Which I do not have because I did not know it was going to be defectively cheap.). I went back and forth with the guy on the phone which I pleaded my case for why I was returning it? Why I had no tags, that I knew he could make new tags for the bag if he really wanted to, and that he shouldn't tag and resale this bag or any of those bags because they are cheap pieces of garbage but he just kept on repeating the same thing about needing tags and a receipt or no return or exchanges. The bottom line is that you have two options. You can go to this Dunhams and deal with a guy that enjoys being a dick or you can go to DICKS and get a better return/exchange policy, better phone customer service etiquette, kinder staff, and company that is willing to up-sell you on a product in their store to make a profit. Last evening my DIL & 3 grandchildren went to this store. Everyone seemed pleasant enough. However, the cashier made some comments while completing a transaction with my family. For some unknown reason, the cashier felt the need to berate my grandchildren. They were told, paraphrasing here, (I bet I can guess your names, "You're Big Brat, you're Bigger Brat and you're Biggest Brat." Who does that and why? My DIL is too soft-hearted of a person to tell you when something doesn't sound right. I, however, do not have one single qualm to do so. I did place a call to the store this morning and spoke with "Todd, the manager". In the beginning of the conversation, he seemed to express genuine shock and concern but by the end of the call, I felt nothing was going to come of it and this type of a lackadaisical attitude in the workplace will continue and reflect badly on whatever establishment this sorry individual might be employed. So, if it's your desire to possibly be berated, as well as your other family members, by all means, have a stop by, get insulted, make their day. read more

I was told you my employer that I got a discount at out local Dunham sports, so I thought I would check it out. Selection was ok but I found what I needed. When I tried to pay the cashier I asked for my company discount and showed her my company Id. She started asking questions like name address phone number email. I told her that I did not want to disclose all that info to her. She told me if I did answer her questions I would not get my discount. I walked out and will not return. read more

Very limited selection of popular brands (i.e. Nike, Adidas, Under Armor, etc) and the prices are higher in-store than what they're listed as on the brands' sites. Also, their shoe department is a mess. In the display area, they have incorrectly placed shoes under the wrong category (I spotted football cleats displayed in the "soccer" display area). The golf section is okay at best. They have a decent selection of balls and golf attire to choose from but the clubs are not anything worth spending the asking price on. If you're into camo and outdoor gear then they have a wide variety of those products but if you're into competitive/casual athletics then this is not the store for you. read more

This location does not honor their posted sale prices. I have been shopping for a kayak for a while now. Found a kayak in the Lenoir location, looked at it for 3 days now and finally decided to purchase today. Once we made it up to the counter to purchase, the cashier had to call the manager up to correct the price because it was not ringing up as the posted price that had been hanging from it for the past 3 days I personally looked at it. The manger on duty admitted that she put the wrong tag on the kayak and said the best she could do was knock the price down to still be over $100 from the posted sale price. As a manager myself, I would have honored the posted price being as I was the one who labled it incorrectly. That would be the ethical thing to do. Clearly running a moral business is not a factor at this location. read more
