In a place where la famiglia é tutto, they know how to greet you. We were invited in by the quintessential Italian signs as much as the complex aromas. The pastries were a delight, but it was me who was delighted by the Old World style adorning the newly renovated space. A mixture of textures, from wood to stone work to leather chairs helped create the ambiance, and the cathedral ceiling was highlighted by painted white rafters. Today I tried the spiral ham on brioche breakfast sandwich and a café Americano, and I got a pastry with cannoli filling to go. I'm not sure what I'll get next time, but I know this bakery is a recipe for something great about our country. I'm no Maine scholar, but I'm pretty sure the state motto: "Dirigo," translates to "The pastries are delizioso," (give or take.)

The donuts may have been the best I've had - the Boston cream was delightfully fluffy and bursting with custard that was not overpoweringly sweet. I also snacked on a plain croissant on the drive and was content with the crunchy top and honeycomb inside. I saw someone else enjoying a gelato - that will have to be the next on my list! There are two parking areas so if you can't find a spot, drive to the other side of the building!

This location seems brand new as it's part of a fairly new complex that includes at least one hotel, The Garrison. The other building looks like another hotel but I can't say for certain. This DD is also a drive-thru so if you are you're in a rush or just passing through it's very convenient. Staff is very friendly and quick with your order. If you stick around there's a large seating area and even electric outlets that were placed well above table level. This makes it easier to quickly identify where your ideal spot is in case you need to charge your phone or do a little work. You know how older buildings have electrical outlets hidden under tables or at least closer to the floor? You end up creeping around, looking under tables like you lost something. Not the case here. Great family friendly space. Seems pet friendly, too. We got a chance to meet "Danny Boy," a five month old pit-mix rescue. He was the sweetest thing.
