What better way to celebrate the 250th birthday of our country than to try out the warmest table in hospitality: an Italian one. In a place where la famiglia é tutto, they know how to greet you. We were invited in by the quintessential Italian signs as much as the complex aromas. The pastries were a delight, but it was me who was delighted by the Old World style adorning the newly renovated space. A mixture of textures, from wood to stone work to leather chairs helped create the ambiance, and the cathedral ceiling was highlighted by painted white rafters. Today I tried the spiral ham on brioche breakfast sandwich and a café Americano, and I got a pastry with cannoli filling to go. I'm not sure what I'll get next time, but I know this bakery is a recipe for something great about our country. I've seen Enzo Benzo recommended in various FB groups but I'm not usually in the area. We were passing by for swim lessons and I'm so glad we stopped in. The donuts may have been the best I've had - the Boston cream was delightfully fluffy and bursting with custard that was not overpoweringly sweet. I also snacked on a plain croissant on the drive and was content with the crunchy top and honeycomb inside. I saw someone else enjoying a gelato - that will have to be the next on my list! We have been driving by this space for years and wondered if anything would move in and something did! Yummy eats and drinks. It's hard to believe that a bakery this good is in Eliot, Maine. This is big city quality, authentic Italian place in a country setting. In addition to all the great pastries and donuts, they now have Gelato imported from Italy. The seating area is huge and there are several tables outside on the huge porch. One month overdue.. Stopped at Enzo Benzo in Eliot, and it was a great experience. It has a cozy, old-world Italian bakery feel with a modern touch. The pastries were delicious crispy croissants, flavorful cakes, and a warm apricot croissant that was perfect. The chocolate cake with pistachio ricotta was outstanding. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. They even made my son a fresh hot chocolate without me asking, which he loved. The space is cozy with a small fireplace and seasonal décor, and it's clean with bathroom access, which is a big plus for parents with young kids. My four-year-old gave it his official stamp of approval. Looking forward to returning. The pastry case beckons from the moment you walk in the door! The case is filled with all sorts of incredible cakes, cannolis, pastries and donuts. I'm sure they are all as delicious as they are beautiful. I had a pistachio and cream filled sfogliatella ("lobster tail") that was so delicious. I appreciated that the cream filling wasn't overly sweet. It was just right and the flaky, buttery crust was perfect. I only wish I had paused to take a photo before devouring it because it was also beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I can tell that it's a creative and fun place to work. Honestly? Another newer place slept on! Nice little drive for some awesome Italian donuts alongside amazing cannoli (shells made in house) as well as house made Italian cakes and focaccia. We tried the Italian style Ham (Prociutto) spinach, onion and cream cheese with olive oil sandwich on Focaccia. And the Roman style pizza with an amazing soft and airy crust, pepperoni and cheese. Stopped here in May 2022 on way to visit The Red Barn at Outlook Farm for my daughter's wedding venue search tour. The staff was very nice and they had a good selection of what i would call "cake" or "old fashion" donuts. My husband enjoyed the cinnamon bun and ate the rest the following day using their recommendation to put in microwave a few seconds. I LOVED the "raised" cannoli stuffed donut! I may reach out to them to see if they can make smaller ones (donut hole size) for our daughter's wedding! They were light and delicious and very unique.
