On a recent business trip, I stopped by The Kraken to grab a coffee for my wife and something…read moredifferent for myself. The building is fantastic. It's incredibly inviting, with a fun theme and a beautiful mix of mid-century leather furniture and warm wood accents that make you want to hang out for a while. The young lady who helped me was an absolute 10 out of 10. My wife enjoys a very specific type of iced coffee, and I always get tongue-tied trying to explain it because not every coffee shop can recreate what she's looking for. She listened, understood exactly what I meant, and absolutely nailed it. She was genuinely friendly, patient, and a pleasure to deal with. She also talked me into ordering some sort of creamy orange, dirty coconut concoction that I'm fairly certain I could never successfully order again...but whatever it was, it was phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As a general rule, I don't tip at places where you order at the counter. I've always felt tipping is reserved for servers who are taking care of you at a table. But exceptional service deserves to be recognized, and the friendliness, knowledge, and genuine hospitality I received earned them a well-deserved 20% tip. If you're looking for great coffee, a unique atmosphere, and people who truly enjoy what they do, The Kraken is well worth the stop. To those about to nosh, I salute you!

They tried adding chocolate powder to it to fix it. I wish I had insisted on a re-do. Even after I doctored it a little before I left, I couldn't bring myself to finish the drink. Your experience may differ. I don't want to torch this place with my review. But I've tried it twice and probably won't again.

When sipping it it doesn't even taste like there is coffee in it, much less espresso. And admittedly this is a small thing, but there was sticky caramel all over one of the sides of the cup and I sat waiting for them to come back to the window so I could ask for a napkin but they never did. My daughter got a Java chip frap and she liked it. Can't really comment on the ambiance because we were just in the drive through.

I am extremely upset about my experience at the Starbucks in downtown Elizabeth City…read more At around 7 PM, my husband ordered a decaffeinated coffee refill for me because I cannot have caffeine. It causes severe acid reflux and significant stomach problems. He asked the barista twice to confirm that the coffee was decaf, and she said yes both times. I am aware that many Starbucks stores don't keep brewed decaf available in the evening, and no alternative such as an Americano or pour-over was offered. We relied completely on the employee's assurance. After drinking the coffee, I had nonstop burping, painful bloating, and I did not sleep all night. This is the exact reaction I have when I am given regular coffee. When someone clearly explains a medical sensitivity and double-checks the order, there is no room for mistakes. Serving the wrong product in this situation is not a minor inconvenience -- it directly affects a customer's health and well-being. Starbucks needs to take this more seriously. Better training and more care are necessary so this does not happen to someone else.

Her menu was incredible and included a sample of a number of different items including: - seafood salad croissants - fig & goat cheese sandwiches - blueberry scones with hand-made Devonshire crème - hand-dipped strawberries - berry tartlets - brie & smoked ham on baguette There were several others as well and we started our home tour on full stomachs. My boys came to be with their grandmother, and Bonnie was so sweet to them & taught them some historical, but still useful tips on etiquette (good for boys & girls)! Her home is one of the oldest in the historic section of Elizabeth city, was a stop on the underground railroad, and was home to one of the city's most famous residents as a small child (Hattie Harney). She has beautiful antiques, many from the same period as the home itself, and as a master gardener, she has amazing gardens too. She also gave us tour of some of the historic sections of the city which included the oldest school and some of the oldest churches dating to the early 1800s. This town also was a stop-over for the Wright Brothers and several presidents, which she discusses on the tour. This was just the perfect thing to show off the town to my out-of-town family. We thought the price was more than reasonable for the event & the amount of labor our hostess, Bonnie, put into preparing this for us. You can dress however you want- she has done teas for red-hatters & special occasions, so have fun! We have also used De'Tours for school trips and scouting events. She was kind enough to give us a special rate so all the children could attend and learn about their own city. She is a gem and we hope the city keeps her for a long time to come. Thanks Bonnie!
