It took several days to get the part in and once it was installed I was handed a bill for $2000. I was told that $500 of that bill was to return the old part to the manufacturer. Upon investigating I found out that the manufacturer covers the cost of returning defective parts under warrantee and this repair should have been around $500 to $600. I requested an itemized bill from them and was told that they don't do that and was ignored when I made further inquiries. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Within the next hour, he diagnosed and explained the problem, got the heat running, knowledgeably and efficiently answered all our questions, helped us ( through a low-pressure conversation) choose the best replacement furnace for our home and while waiting to be sure the furnace was going to run efficiently, he put a new switch on the fireplace. Great technician and fantastic service from the phone call to this posting. (They have already called to make arrangements to come measure for the new low energy, high efficiency furnace unit). In all the years we have called on Handy Brothers for their knowledge, expertise, maintenance and purchasing we have never been disappointed. Highly recommend Sheldon for his personable approach, level of knowledge and obvious skill since we are warm as toast now!

Left hole, (which was an awful mess with exposed materials uncovered, etc). Left hole to "dry out" for a 90 year old woman to deal with on her own. Called plumber back out, had to ask to check toilet (even though I was told they checked it through flushing numerous times and nothing....) lifted toilet up heard the young man say "0h my God" because the sub flooring was complete rot. Under the shower, under the toilet etc. Not my expertise but seemed like the most basic thing to check. Then when the plumber left, he forgot to turn the water back on leaving no hot water at all. It was a weekend and they were kind enough to come back out, in doing so, they came back to turn the water back on, but then left again on a Saturday and cold water worked but hot water had no pressure leaving my mother with no way to shower. It was just a mess. It seemed like basic plumbing, but no one could figure it out except for myself. I think older people are taken advantage of and the insurance adjuster from State Farm, John Leuffgen has been zero help in any of this unfortunate situation. If you get him as an adjuster, request someone more competent. The giant messed up, torn out ceiling above my mother's dining room table is still there because no one can find or give a name of a contractor willing to fix this mess from the plumber.

This is a review of my experience hiring John as a property manager and a handy man. The intention…read moreof this review is to warn others about my negative experience working with John. As a note, I am an out of state investor who bought an investment property in Port Huron on September of 2022. On September 28th 2022, I had the city inspector inspect my property where more than 30 violations were found. The inspector then gave me until December 16th to resolve all the issues. On October 8th 2022, John spent time reviewing the "Notice of Violation" paperwork that I received from the inspector. He handwrote an itemized quote directly on that paperwork detailing the cost to resolve all the violations that I had received. The total cost of his quote was $5,020, which I paid up-front upon his request before he started the work. On December 2nd, I visited the property and found that many violations had not been resolved. On this day, I also noticed that John was storing some of his personal belongings in one of my rental units without obtaining my consent. At this point, I relieved him of his duties as my property manager and he acknowledged, in writing, that he still had an obligation as my handyman to finish his work on the violations. On December 16th (re-inspection day) the city inspector found that not all violations had been resolved. While the work that John did finish was completed sufficiently, there was still a total of $2,700 in unfinished work. I've requested a refund from John; however, that money has never been refunded to me. As a result of the incomplete work, I have incurred fines for the continued violations on my property. I have since sent letters to John with the official details of the itemized quote he provided me, the final notices from the inspector that cite unfinished violations, and a refund request for $2,700.

I had a shower valve on an older shower that needed to be replaced, it was a bit of an emergency. To be frank, they were the only entity that said they could do it that day. A lady contacted me back quickly and was up front with the fact their employees were on another job, but would stop by after. They were also up front with the price - $165 an hour. Now, I'm not sure if that was due to the emergency or if that was the regular call rate, but it did take me back. That said, I agreed, the lady asked what type of unit I had (a Moen) and I waited roughly about two and half hours before the men came to work on it. The two young men that came were very professional, asked what preliminary work I had done, and what the issue was. The unit inside the valve was evidently completely broken, and they had the correct part to fix it. Bottom line, they were able to complete the job within an hour, and with parts it was about $260. All in all, I was pleased with the overall work. Was it more than I wanted to pay? Yes, but I couldn't argue with the work done and the result, which is a better working valve than I originally had.
