I guess ACA isn't all about dodgy tradies and dead beat dads after all. When I told the butcher I was looking to try a few of the sausages, suggestions started coming in from customers as well. I walked out with 5 different types (sang choy bao, Texan, spicy Italian, pork and truffle, and smoky maple). I'm still looking for Australia's best bacon, so I grabbed some of that as well. Overall, really good sausages. Pork truffle and Italian were my favourites. The sang choy bao tasted exactly like a sang choy bao. I'll leave it to you to decide whether that should be a flavour enjoyed in sausage form. A word of warning though: the ACA nutritionist mentioned that sausages aren't an every day food and having more than 2 a day increases your chance of bad things by a milionty percentage points. Or something like that. I was too busy drooling over TCB's sausages to really pay attention at that point.

Buying groceries you can go to any supermarket but people actually go back to where they used to live to go to a great butcher. All the meat here is halal and they offer more than beef and chicken. If you want a nice piece of goat which I know is a cultural thing, not many anglo saxon Australians eat it, they have it. They also wholesale direct to the public so if your looking for a side of beef for your freezer, they will package it up in selected cuts for you.

Then I noticed the lamb was from Cowra (a place known for quality lamb) so I started picking a few things. T bones steaks, yes. Lamb leg and cutlets.. yes. Brisket, yes. Beef tendon- sure why not (needs further explanation - next time..). Scotch fillet, yes. What about pork scotch, why not? Pork roast, yes add it on. When I said it might be too much to carry, she offered help to carry to the car and convinced me to buy some chicken wings and breast fillets. So, from having a quick look to $280. But still great value. And they did get a dude from the back to help carry to the car. The biggest challenge was fitting it in the freezer when I got home. Definitely worth checking out for great value, quality and variety. Oh, they threw in some sausages for free and we're very unusual. First tine I had 'Chinese flavoured' sausages.

I ignore it and put my phone on silent knowing that one of my Friday evening jobs will be to delete 48 e-mails. But I have to be careful, somewhere in there will be an e-mail from my butcher with the weekend specials. Not just any specials either, Allan has his own farm and his meat is spectacularly good. Aged for a long time, it is simply the best butchery on the upper north shore. Last weeks special - boned legs of new season lamb $25 each. Allan is banned from the MLA because he makes too much sense - that means he has to talk to his customers and he does it with aplombe. He is the heart and soul, liver, kidneys, tongue and cheeks of this place. Allan gets "Love a Chat" to woman the BBQ out the front. She is the star of the show. Told Keeno and I the other day that she had taken her labradoodle to the vet only to learn that he was mostly Lab - but no doodle. She reckons the pet shop saw her coming, she wondered why he didn't look look like the others - they just snuck in a bitsa and hoped no one would notice. Too late now she concedes, he's part of the family. The whole time shes been chatting with Keeno I've been eating BBQ pork, Morroccan Snags, Sang Choy Bow snags, and whatever else she's got going on the hot plate and sampling all the different sauces. Its like a free lunch. Bangalow Pork, snags etc.. its all fantastic. I once bought a whole pig for the spit and drove it down to the farm stowed right next to Chloe (our dog) who went absolutely nuts the whole trip.You can get goat here but if your not quick Allan will tell you its name before he tells you how to cook it. (Slowly, very very very slowly) But really its the beef, standing rib roast, scotch fillet, sirloin on the bone, rump, and T bones. It is a joy knowing the cattle is grass fed and farmed by the guy talking to you, if you can break away from Love a Chat that is.
