He signed a contract stating he would finish work by 3/28/14, but in fact, the installation didn't get final approval until 4/21/14, over 3 weeks past the original completion date. He said he would have a crew out there working, but for the first two weeks, hardly anyone was there at all. One thing Terry told the homeowner was that Dominic's emergencies weren't his emergencies. When I called to ask questions and point out that Terry wasn't doing what he said he would do, he became beligerant and said if I showed up at the job site anymore he would walk off the job. While Terry's installation was good as far as I know, his attitude is terrible and you can't count on what he says.

Once upon a time long ago I…read moreworked as an health inspector, one of the duties of which is ensuring that septic systems (OSSFs) are properly designed for the residence it will serve and soil type that will receive the treated effluent. The state also requires that critical aspects of the system are inspected during installation and upon completion, after which the local health inspector will issue a permit for that system. For experienced installers this work should be relatively easy. Amazingly, many of the local installers fail inspections often, and one or two seemed to fail at least one inspection per installation. Typically because they are lazy or rushed, or their staff is lazy, rushing to finish, or poorly trained. During my tenure Hard Rock rarely needed re inspections and if he did it was for an unforeseeable or unavoidable reason. While local health departments do not recommend particular businesses, when I was ready to get a system installed, every experienced inspector that I asked recommended Hard Rock (and no one else - there are several other nice and competent installers in the area however, and several excellent installers in the dripping springs area but they usually have enough local business and thus prefer not to work in this area). I can also say that many of my friends recommend this business as well. Several times I've been told that the owner has done additional work (moving landscape boulders, digging small ponds, etc) at no charge, and will often respond to future requests by saying he'll come by next time he's working in the area and do whatever minor work is needed for free. And he keeps his word. He did a great, quick job on my installation and dug some holes and trenches I needed for free. The only negative comment I can make (and this is true of most installers) is that he recommended an aerobic system, which are fraught with issues and should be banned or maintained by the local wastewater dept. Installers love these systems because they can charge more and it is a very fast installation compared to a traditional system, plus a service contract is required by law. In my case, in order to avoid installing an aerobic system I would have needed truckloads of soil delivered for what's called a mounded LPD OSSF. It would have been more expensive but in retrospect I regret not getting it. In the long run anaerobic systems cost less to maintain and rarely fail.
