Always looking for some good eats between Houston and Dallas so we can avoid fast food while making the drive to visit family. Duran's came up on my search so we decided to stop by for a real dinner during the commute! Crazy how so many places just come and go on this route throughout the years, so I'm grateful for a new one along the way! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Surprised how large Duran's way! It was inside a little cabin-like building. Maybe 15-20 tables inside![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can tell there's locals that dine here often.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great.. there was one guy working the tables and he definitely deserved a tip cause he was busting a$$. We got rolls with olive oil and oh my.. they were warm and looked like they were homemade!! They were soft and stretchy and pretty delicious! Winning!!! We ordered the calamari and it was fantastic! Lightly battered with a delicious marinara!! Off to a great start! For dinner, I ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce. Huge portions! Sauce was a bit on the sweet side but nothing to complain about here. Wish they offered up some Parmesan to top it off! We also got the full size and kids size lasagna. It was gooey, full of cheese.. we wished it had a bit more structure and more noodles! It was like a deconstructed lasagna with small pieces of noodles inside! Great little Italian restaurant in what seems to be the middle of no where, but guess what, it's across from the Jerky capital of the world - so you will find it! We ordered off of the lunch menu and it was delicious. Chicken parmigiana with a beautiful side of spaghetti. Salad was fresh and the flat bread and dipping oil was super tasty. The owners were absolutely divine to chat with and they had some commonality with us as they also lived/grew up in NYC. We would definitely stop here again. The most wonderful food we have had in ages. We travel extensively and rarely stumble into a restaurant with such high quality food. We were there for a funeral and stayed at the Days Inn, which was the WORST motel ever, literally, but was the ONLY choice. There were only a few places from which to choose - I picked Italian. Get off the highway and drive an extra 50 feet past fast-food chains to Duran's Italian restaurant. My lunch portion of delicious Chicken parm was big enough to take some home, but good enough it was a struggle to do so. The spaghetti side and Caesar salad were great, and the fresh, hot, butter-dripping rolls, served with garlic laced dipping sauce, addictive (2 of my 4 rolls are coming home, too). No room for dessert, alas! Service was excellent, there's covered outdoor seating, and lunch cost $11 with iced tea. I'll definitely be back!! Gotta try dessert and some of the pasta dishes. read more

This place was awesome! My husband missed his exit and we had to find a different place to eat then where we were going. We were so glad we missed that exit. The place was charming and the food was delicious! My husband ordered lasagna and I had chicken piccata. The servings were huge and the flavor was fabulous. Stopped by here on our way home from Houston. Now we have a reason to visit Centerville. The lasagna pinwheels were so amazing I think about them all the time. They were a pizza doll rolled up like a cinnamon roll and filled with lasagna insides. WOW! I can't wait to try the pepperoni pinwheels when I make a special trip just to go to Duran's. The pizza was ok, very thin crust if you like that sort of thing. I prefer a thicker crust pizza, but that's just me. Sauce was good. I give 2 for friendly customer service The salad that I got with my meal was drowned by a dressing called blue cheese but no where close to blue cheese with iceberg lettuce that was delivered two weeks ago not stored correctly. Yelped this place while passing down I45 and thought we would give it a go. The young waitress was not very friendly and didn't seem interested in answering questions about the menu or we would have rated this higher. Bread came out with the oil and herb dip and it was freaking awesome! I ordered the eggplant entree and it came with a salad. Salad came out and it was ok...nothing special other than it had black olive slices which were promptly picked off! LOL. I digress....the eggplant with spaghetti came out. HUGE serving! The eggplant was perfect!!! Nice and thin slices lightly fried to perfection...not greasy. Lots of cheese, some sauce and great flavor. The spaghetti might have needed to cook a minute or so more but was still ok. I'm not a higher spaghetti fan so maybe it was just me. That eggplant though...WOW. Oh my! This place was wonderful! Another restaurant in the area that we considered was closed, so we entered this restaurant on a whim. Cheese sticks were very good, homemade and hand breaded . We were told all ingredients were fresh not frozen. Chicken vodka penne was excellent. Chicken spinach pepper with a pinkish sauce had a wonderful bite. Pasta sampler plates were good. Rolls were excellent. Service was personal and excellent as it was not busy on our arrival at 4 pm on a Saturday. Unexpected gem during our trip. More than exceeded our expectations. read more

The food is excellent here but the service is not as good as it could be. Both times I have been I have had to wait to get a table for over 5 minutes when there were not many tables filled. The first time was grand opening so that is understandable but the second time they were not busy. I will give it another try because they do have good food at a very reasonable price. This restaurant was CLEAN (bathrooms too) and simply but tastefully decorated. Waitstaff was friendly and polite. The food was great. As my husband said, "We got three different dishes, not just the same ingredients served different ways." From the looks of the grab-n-go line outside and the steady stream of people coming in, we're not the only ones who enjoy this place. So. I'm at Durans Italian restaurant in Centerville. After lunch, I was REALLY wanting a little somethin' sweet and a fresh cup of hot coffee on this incredibly cold day. I asked, and was told that they only make coffee for 'certain' customers. I said, "ok. Am I a 'certain' customer?" He giggled and said, "I don't think so.". What a great restaurant to have in Centerville, and finally a break from BBQ. We ordered a 10" pizza, Fettuccine Alfredo, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Penne Ariabata, Manicotti and a pasta dish with veggies in a light cream wine sauce. All were wonderful!!! We went for the basic dishes to see if the 5 stars was an accurate account. We did take out and all inhaled our food (ha! left the salad that came with the meal). And the rolls are delish. Wife and stopped by this afternoon and had dinner. We ate indoors and were the only patrons which was a shame but good for us in this era of COVID19. Staff was quick to serve. I saw them clean after a couple left as we came in. I felt they were very conscientious with cleaning so if you are concerned with CvId, this should be fine for you. There is outside seating as well. This restaurant is fabulous. We went last night and found out that new owners bought it in Nov 2020. I am not usually a fan of Italian food but my husband is. This time I came our raving about how great it was. We were given fresh hot homemade rolls with a spiced olive oil dip while we reviewed the menus. OMG they were good. We ordered and had a fresh salad with crispy lettuce with our meal. Go and enjoy!! We were told that the new owner will rename it Lei, in the future. A small town with a world class restaurant.
