    Smokin' Gun Sandwich
    Erin C.

Def love this place. Been here tons of times. If you are not from texas or the south, you may be put off by the slow pace at which they move, but don't be bothered. It's just how it is. Great place to stop for food, clean restrooms, etc. keep in mind that there are two of these locations directly across the highway from each other. Supposedly, the one on the east side is owned by the daughter, and the one across on the west side is owned by the father. I tried the pepper jack shrimp roll, and it was fantastic. Sort of expensive, but I only got one. I also tried the sausage and chopped beef sandwich. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I immediately thought of how it could be better when I bit into it. Unfortunately, they left the onions on my sandwich, but I took them off. (They should prob specify that the onions are pickled red onions, bc it definitely enhances the flavor.) However, my recs would be this if you decide to order it. Tell them to toast your buns slightly, add jalapeños, and maybe a slice of cheddar. Put your sauce on the side, so that you can determine how much you need. I think it's the most expensive sandwich on the menu, so they def should be selling it the way I recommended it. lol Anyway, it's a staple to Texans, and a great place to go if you're on your way to Dallas or some east texas towns. You also get a free woodys tee if you spend over $100.

Gas station food? Not hardley. Yes, technically, Woody's is at the Shell station. But the BRISKET is great, even when it's the last 1/2lb at 9:30pm.

Why don't customers get paper between slices when it comes that way from distributor? We get a glob rather than individual slices.

WTH happened to this place??? This is been my go-to spot for 20 years. I always stop each way from Dallas to Houston. There's nothing better than fresh jalapeño cheese bread, jalapeño cheese slices and some peppered turkey jerky. Seriously, that's how you know if you've lived in life. I've probably referred 100 people to Woody's over the years and lost count of how many times I've told the story of making the mistake of stopping at Bucee's for the same once only to get home and try it and discovered the Bucees version was disgusting. I wasn't pissed about throwing away $50+ at Bucees, and I literally threw it away, but rather at the fact that it was too long a drive to get back to Woody's and get the good stuff! So why my poor review today after 20 years of 5 stars???? Good question. For starters, I went in this morning to get my usual. I grabbed the only loaf of jalapeño cheese bread they had out, unusual to only have one, and it was 4 days old. I've never been here and seen any older than a day. I got it anyway along with my cheese. It was DRY as crap and very dense. Normally it's like a bounce house trampoline, soft and airy, but today it could have stopped a Mack truck! Also, I hate that they don't put paper between the cheese because it becomes one glob. Typically it just get it from the deli as they put paper slices for employees, just not clients... don't get me started. They are also sold out of turkey jerky because of supply issues. I get that as there's nothing they can do about that. Since it was early in the morning, I also got a jalapeño cheese kolache, you're probably starting to see a pattern here. Yes, I love jalapeño cheese anything. We'll it seemed like a good idea. I get in my truck to eat it and the sausage was completely dried out and inedible. I spit it out. I was like... nevermind, I won't share that analogy so as to keep it family friendly, but needless to say it was dry and wrinkly. This wasn't from them overheating it as it was barely heated by my request. It's just SEVERAL days old and has been sitting in the counter for probably a week. What happened???? Did Sheila sell? Is there new corporate ownership? Their quality standards have turned to sh*t and my beloved Woody's has now been relagated to typical gas station status. I'm heartbroken, but sadly must acknowledge today's experience was from systematic changes in leadership to allow such a downfall. I will mourn my beloved and choose to remember the good days of fresh foods with incredible flavors you couldn't find elsewhere.

We have been coming to Woodys for years. We stopped into one side of the highway on our way in, and the other on the way out. Spent about 60.00 total. Had I known about the in your face political stuff I would not have stopped here. And will not again. It's a shame too. Anyway, we ordered a chopped beef BBQ on a bun, and the half chicken. My companion enjoyed her bbq, my chicken was just okay and quite dry! The "sauce" with it tasted like apple cider vinegar with something mixed in, very unpleasant. The pinto beans were rather bland. My bread was dated said 03/07 as the date packed, today is the 10th. Bathrooms are super clean, and staff were kind and helpful.

Woody's is a must stop whenever we're headed to Houston. This time we got bbq stuffed potato and wow, THAT is a potato. We got it with chicken and the beans. We also tried the chopped rib sandwich which came with beans and I got an extra side of green beans. The green beans needed some bbq sauce for just a little flavor. We definitely had our fill here for lunch! When we are headed back we're stopping to pick up sausage and pickled stuff for home. We keep a yeti cooler in our trunk just for that!

There is two locations for Woodys, same area.

The BBQ in this place is amazing. It's a good place to stop while traveling on 45 either going to Houston or Dallas. We stopped in the morning and ordered some breakfast burritos egg and potatoes. I orders 4 burritos and it cost me $40! I was like what the hell! This is highway robbery. I could have had BBQ instead. Anyways this is a warning folks, don't order breakfast, to go, attempt to save some time. The breakfast burritos were nice sized and good but not worth $40. I will stop there again while traveling but definitely not getting anymore breakfast burritos .

In the middle of no where . We found a BBQ place, 4.5/5 so flavorful.

My friend and I were going to a Mercedes convention & they picked this place to be the pit stop before heading up to Dallas and may I say it was a great choice. This location is like a smaller Buc-ee's, you go inside and there's a section where you can buy snacks and drinks, they also have like a little gift shop area, and if you want BBQ they got that as well. I decided to order something small so I got a couple of ribs, was it the best? Nope. But it was so good, seasoning was on point & most importantly it fell off the bone which means it was cooked correctly. To be honest I wanted to ask them what seasoning they put on those ribs because it was mmm mmm good. Overall it was an awesome experience, this is a great pit stop to grab some gas and if you're hungry just come inside and order up. Tip: it's in the middle of Houston & Dallas.

Why 5 stars? Because this will definitely be my new go-to butcher shop…read more --- --- --- I've been to all of the butcher shops within about 20 minutes of my house, but none of them were all that impressive. Fortunately, Stone Cold Meats recently took over this space, and I was really excited to check them out because their other locations were highly rated. And it turns out: I see why. I came here to stock up on Super Bowl food: steaks, burgers, sausage and some sides. Almost all of it was a home run. Or, a touchdown, I guess I should say. I ordered 3 bone-in ribeyes and they turned out to be really great. I was a little concerned because they were not nearly as pricey as they are at some nicer butcher shops, but my concerns were unfounded. Great steaks, great prices. I also ordered some brisket mac-n-cheese, two different kinds of potato salad, some brisket burgers and some sausage stuffed with mac-n-cheese. The potato salads and sausage were a big hit. The burgers and mac were just okay. But that's okay because the important stuff was awesome. When I purchased my stuff, the woman asked me if I wanted to sign up for their rewards program. Normally I hate giving my information out, but I was happy to do it in this case. Apparently, you can get some really good deals once you earn enough points. I foresee a future with many points earned.

Update of my previous review from a month ago (left below this):…read moreStone Cold Meats - Wow! We just had the greatest piece of beef we've ever had, thanks to Stone Cold Meats. For my birthday I asked for a Prime rib roast. The buying experience at the store (in Conroe) was so much better than other options in the area that it's almost not a fair fight. The butcher was super friendly, listened closely to what I wanted, and gave me multiple choices. He brought out two entire rib racks, trimmed them down in front of us, and gave us a choice of which one, and which end. After enduring the barely helpful butchers at larger stores, this was like a breath of fresh air. The piece we chose was exactly what we wanted, and when it was finally time to eat we were blown away. The texture and the flavor of the meat was better than anything we've ever had, comparable only to the finest steakhouses like Vic & Anthony's or Pappas Brothers. It was amazing. See the last two pictures, below. To say that SCM will be our butchers from now on is an understatement. For a little extra you not only get better meat than elsewhere, you get a truly fun and engaging shopping experience. Last Review (October 2024) This is my favorite new store of any kind in the entire county. The assortment and quality of meats is amazing, but I most appreciated the owner's knowledge and enthusiasm, and especially his willingness to spend time discussing his various products and his favorite way to cook them. We've been back several times since our first visit last week and their mild Italian sausage that we cooked this week (with peppers and onions) was truly outstanding. Then we tried their brisket burgers and THEY were amazing! This is a very welcome addition to the area and we'll be regulars.

Go in for the Aggie Special - a sausage wrap and a large soda for C H E A P. They also sell some fantastic beef jerky if you're looking for something chewy. Texas Monthly called their beef jerky something like, "transcendent." I'm inclined to agree. Some of the best beef jerky I've ever had. They sell beef, lamb, pork too. There are giant take home boxes where you can grab several pounds of meat at once for a big party or a tailgate. The prices are all so low. So obviously, all the meats are coming from the classes that they're teaching in the meat and food sciences building that this place is attached to. Those spare ribs might have been some student's midterm project. The meat is all displayed (shrink wrapped) in big glass cases. Prices are clearly displayed. Buy in bulk and save! Everything is clearly labeled with the Texas A&M logo so nobody gets confused about where you got your meat. They have helpful posters that inform the purchaser about where different cuts come from on the animal. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They offer a microwave in the corner if you need to warm up something and take it to go. My favorite is the sausage that's shaped into a football. Gig 'em! If you're on campus, you gotta check this out. This store will convert the strictest of vegetarians into carnivores! Whoop!
