Good experience with Durfee back in 2022 so I called them back for ac service in 2025. Estimate was 900 to repair. I agreed and told them to proceed. Was called four hours later and told the bill was now $1400 and my system was unable to be repaired but I still needed to pay the repair bill. The technician said he was told by his boss I needed a new system. So, I had to pay the 1400 for absolutely nothing. Called and emailed for several days to get a quote on a new system. No one ever called me back. No one ever responded to my emails or messages. Had a technician from another HVAC visit and he was able to repair the system in 1 hour, charged me $250. I initially had a positive experience with Durfee Plumbing & Heating of South Dennis, MA. Sadly, what happened next was gross overcharging, unscrupulous pricing and unprofessional customer service. Phil, the owner, was able to resolve our AC issues promptly and charged us $550 after a half day of work. We were pleased with the outcome, left a positive Google review, and decided to transition furnace maintenance to Durfee Plumbing from a local competitor, after we were asked what we currently pay for annual maintenance ($495 for two furnaces). The owner implied we would receive a similar price point to what we are paying currently. On the day for the furnace maintenance, two employees came by and spent less than 45 minutes on the furnace maintenance. I was shocked to later learn that my credit card was charged $1525, or $1000+ over their local competitor pricing, but to add insult to injury I also learned later that they did not service the attic furnace, only the basement furnace. So Durfee Plumbing charged three times as much as I previously paid, for half the job performed. When I saw the credit card charge post to my account, I proceeded to try to contact Phil, the owner. Over the course of two days, I left seven messages with the Durfee Plumbing office. And not once did Durfee Plumbing return our calls. At the end of the second day of trying to contact Phil & Durfee Plumbing, we received notice that a $655 credit will be posted to our credit card. I responded that was still $345 short of the fair price and reminded Phil that only half the job was performed, and my expectation was for a refund of $1000 and for his team to complete the job, which includes the attic furnace maintenance. Overall, after what started out to be a promising plumbing vendor to work with, it is now clear we have been defrauded by Durfee Plumbing. Grossly overcharged relative to other local plumbers on cape cod, services underperformed (only 1/2 the job that was committed to) and very unprofessional customer service practices. We are fortunate enough to have a second home in Eastham. When we arrived we discovered a leak with the hot water heater. They responded quickly to our call and we had a new hot water heater installed and working by mid afternoon!!! Courteous and polite. Expensive and Disappointing Billing Practices and Inconsistent Quality of Work. Durfee Plumbing has done several jobs for us in the past year but because we experienced problems the last two visits, I needed to change my review from 4 stars to 2 stars. The most troubling problem occurred in May 2023 when they replaced a pipe that broke inside a wall, when they were fixing a bathroom sink. When they fixed the pipe in the wall, they had to move the gas stove to access the wall from the other side. We were away from the house for two weeks and when we came back and went to turn on the gas to the stove, we noticed new plumbers tape around the pipe valve for turning on the gas. We had not been aware that they had done anything with the gas pipe to the stove. When I turned on the gas valve, there was a loud hissing and strong smell of gas that clearly was a result of what Durfee Plumbing had done. Since it was a Sunday, we had to call the National Grid emergency phone line, who came out right away to inspect the gas leak. National Grid issued an official warning to not turn on the gas to the stove until it was repaired. If I had tried to light the gas pilot for the oven or stove top, and I had not turned off the gas immediately when I smelled gas from the gas valve, I could have been killed or injured if the gas leak had exploded. To Durfee Plumbing's credit, they did come out two days later to fix the gas pipe leak, and did not charge us for that. Though the gas leak caused by their work was the most serious concern related to quality of their work, there were minor issues two other times, like not attaching the bathroom pedestal sink securely, and not adjusting the kitchen faucet properly so that it rotated equally to the left and right in the sink area. In both cases, I checked their work and got them to make the corrections before they left. My second major concern is that Durfee Plumbing has become way too expensive in their billing practices and they have moved away from being transparent in how they bill.. Yesterday (early August), they charged us $736 to install a new kitchen faucet, which was definitely more expensive than it should have been especially since we were charged for two plumbers to be on the job, when it was a one person job. One plumber did 95 percent of the work, and the other plumber spent most of the time in the truck. It is wrong for them to routinely send out two plumbers for each job, which leads to almost double the labor fee. The plumber who did the work, Tyler, who was very personable, explained that they no longer provide a detailed invoice, but rather a "flat fee" for the whole job. This meant no explanation of how much the new faucet cost, and how much they were charging for labor. I told him this was unacceptable so at my request, he looked up the price of the new faucet ( $170 for a Jolt Pull Out Kitchen Faucet.) He explained that the labor charge was $225 per hour for two plumbers on the job site, so a total of $450 for two hours. Phil, the owner, set the total bill at $736 which means he added an extra charge of $116 to the bill above and beyond the price of the labor and the new faucet. Finally, Durfee Plumbing could improve their communication around scheduling. Yesterday, the plumber was scheduled to arrive in the afternoon between 1 and 5 pm, but ended up showing up at 9:45 in the morning. Does Durfee Plumbing sometimes do quality work? Yes, but they charge too much for each job and sometimes they don't double check everything carefully, like the potential gas leak they caused, the loose pedestal sink, and the adjustment of the new kitchen sink faucet. Their new policy to charge a flat fee for a job with no breakdown explanation of parts and labor is not fair to customers. They should go back to issuing a detailed invoice like most service companies do, and like they used to do in the past. Durfee Plumbing needs to do much better in several areas before I'd consider them a great choice for a plumbing company. I'll be looking for a more reasonably priced plumber in the future. read more

company came out said it was fixed then the next day still had the issue. i called again and they sent people out without telling me they were coming. my sister did not know they did not schedule with me and let them in. then my sister told them to call me they did not. I called eleven times sent two emails and stopped by once at the office and no one even called me to tell me what next needs to be done or what is wrong with my cooling system. i used them in the past years ago and had good service but don't know why different experience and no phone calls or even visits with me to review read more

Phillip Durfee and every single one of his employees are excellent. Unfortunately, every time we have used Durfee Plumbing it has been an emergency situation versus a planned appointment. Regardless, they were very prompt in responding and fixing the problems with our very old furnace and water heater. My initial communication with Durfee's involved filling out a website form, phone messages and emails. There was no receptionist answering the phone and the estimate was given based on photos I took of my old gas water heater and emailed. The added back-n-forth is balanced by the reduced price Durfee's can charge due to the reduced overhead operation. A 2-man crew came to my house within a few days and installed the new gas hot water heater. They were friendly and professional. When I called Durfee's a few hours after the install because of a leaky vacuum valve, the guys came back within minutes and quickly replaced it. When my tank came in early they made a point of coming to my house before they were scheduled - unheard of on Cape Cod. The man cleaned up and removed my old tank. Their price was very fair as well. I called Durfee plumbing and they squeezed me in on the same day because I thought I had an active leak. April, who answered the phone, was nice as could be. They had a reasonable rate with an hour minimum. Steve went over and assessed the situation and called me to say that it was more likely a toilet overflow and that it could use a wax ring. He fixed it! The whole thing was done within the hour minimum. SO fair, honest, and customer service oriented! I highly recommend them and would use them again! read more

The response was fast and I thought wow this is a wonderful company.. I needed estimates just to replace heat register covers and they sent people out right away.. They told me I would have the estimate within a week. A few weeks went by and still no email estimate. My husband called and they said they would look into it and alas no call back.. The girl that answered the phone took all my information, my address, what I needed done and told me that someone would call me to schedule a time. I asked her when I could expect a call, she said once the guy return to the office. Well a week later I realized that nobody had called me to schedule an appointment. So I called back and got voicemail. I left a message asking someone to call me to make an appointment. Now normally I would have not given a second thought to call them but I was hoping since I had waited a week they would have made a point to come out 'right away' versus calling someone new who might make me wait another week for an opening. Durfee Plumbing & Heating came out and installed a Fujitsu Mini-Split system that provides AC & Heat, after giving me a free estimate, I absolutely love it. I had the unit set to 70 when I went to bed the temperature dropped in my house, the heat function turned on by itself and warmed the house right back up to 70 I didn't have to do a thing. Not only is the unit amazing, but the technician who I believe is the owner was kind, precise and very knowledgeable. He was able to help with all of my questions. This unit qualified for a rebate and the staff at Durfee Plumbing & Heating was able to help me through the process & made it effortless, I received my rebate within four weeks.
