SCAM I got my oil changed here and they told me my engine harness was completely torn up and they'd have to pull it apart over a couple days to see the extent of the damage. They were naming quotes over $1000 w/o labor costs. I took it for a second opinion to the mechanic my family goes too and they diagnosed and fixed a few bad wires in about 4 hours for 150$ without "tearing apart" my car. I have a new car with 25k miles on it, which I bought one week before. I checked everything in another shop to be sure and the car was in perfect condition. I needed just state inspection and went to Durham Village Garage for that. They charged me additional 400$ because they said some parts of suspension needed to be replaced. I refused that because I was pretty sure my car is in mint condition. In another shop I did check inspection with no problems, they did a double check of my suspension and found nothing. Lying to customers is a fast way to lose them. I definitely do not recommend this location. read more

I was given a verbal quote on my car. They charged over $400 more than quoted not even using dealership parts. They also broke the sway bar and charged me for the part. When I questioned the cost being so much more than quoted I was met with yelling and eventually being hung up on. They are not honest or nice to their customers. I spoke to a mechanic and both parts and labor were charged above customary for the service rendered. My wipers stopped working, and I brought my car to Durham Village Garage to have the problem diagnosed. I appreciated the warm and kind welcome. I asked them to call me if there was any expensive fix that was needed, which they did. They told me it would cost just over $350 to have my wiper transmission fixed. This seemed quite high to me (and I have since learned that it is much higher than other estimates I have received), and decided not to have my car fixed there. When I went to pick up my car, I was surprised to learn that I was being charged $98.51 for the diagnosis. I understand labor is needed to make a diagnosis, but I didn't expect a price so high. I was given the bill, but nobody was originally available when I tried to learn the details of what was wrong with my car or why I was charged that much; the man at the counter asked for someone to come talk to me. Maybe it was a busy day, but when the gentleman came to speak with me, I felt talked down to, belittled, and treated like I was an imposition. He quickly left despite my efforts to try to understand the problem with my car and the bill. It was a really frustrating experience that left me feeling embarrassed and crushed. I understand that they must have other business to attend to, but $98.51 is a lot of money to someone like me. I would have really appreciated someone's time to answer my questions, but felt that no one there would give me the time of day. It was a hurtful experience that left me feeling like I wasn't a respected customer. PS: Buying the part new (plus shipping) cost me $51.77. I've never had much experience working on or fixing my car, but from watching YouTube videos, in about an hour or two I was able to take apart the wiper assembly and successfully install the new part. read more

I'd rate it 2.5 stars if I were able. I recently brought in two cars for their state inspection stickers - both within the same week. Car #1. I called ahead and booked an appointment. No problem there - they were helpful and courteous. I was asked ahead of time if I could leave the car for a few hours and they would fit the inspection in between other jobs. They did the work within a few hours and gave me a call when the work was done. No problems on that end of things. While the car was being checked, I was called and asked if I wanted to have an oil change while the car was in. The technician couldn't tell how long ago it had been since an oil change (no reminder sticker anywhere on window, door, jam, etc.) It needed one, so I said sure. I went to pick up the car, and was told they had to replace one of my window wipers (passenger side) in order to pass the inspection. I had just replaced both wipers a few months back. They didn't ask before doing it and charging me $17 for a new wiper *plus* labor for this convenience. This is where I have an issue with their work. The final bill for the inspection, oil change and wiper was about $88. I decided to pay and just be done with it. I had better things to do than argue about a window wiper going on the car. As I walked around back to get my car, I noticed they have an awful lot of window wipers hanging in the garage for such a small garage. I got the distinct feeling that my car wouldn't have passed inspection without them finding something wrong. I can only imagine what extra work would have done if I hadn't agreed to the oil change. I normally wouldn't have gone back. But I still had car #2 to deal with. So I decided to do a little experiment and see if the same thing happened. I checked out the wipers on car #2. Both were fine and worked well. I brought the car in for an inspection and oil change a couple days later. When I went to pick it up, the same thing happened: it needed a window wiper. I was again not asked and charged the same amount. This time though, the back window (hatchback) needed the new wiper. I thought that was odd since that wiper had stopped working about 5 years ago... I paid the bill and made the decision that I just don't trust them. read more

There is a gas station directly across the street where I filled up directly before my oil change appointment - so the car was full when I dropped it off. When I picked up the car after the appointment, I had maybe 2/3 of a tank. The only thing done for this appointment was an oil change. I didn't check the mileage to see if they had taken a joy ride (I actually have faith in humanity), but barring that, the only logical explanation i can come up with is that they SIPHONED FUEL OUT OF MY CAR! The oil change was done at a reasonable price, but the fuel?!?! It's like a $15 surcharge. Last time I'll use their services. Bummed about that because I'm a local. Sad. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Durham Village Garage for about 2 years. When I moved to NH from Indiana I was new to the system of vehicle inspections. My first inspection I was quoted 600+ dollars in repairs that had to be made. I took my car and got a second opinion from DVG and they quoted me 100 dollars less on the repairs. Ever since I've taken my car there. On two separate occasions I've had my car break down (11 years old Malibu) and they have helped to try and get the repairs done in one day so I could get to work the next day. George, the owner of Durham Village Garage is so nice and as I have been going to him for the last 13 years I consider him family. I seem to always be running in there wearing a pale expression of fright due to a flat tire, some foreign noise I heard or even a minor tap on my fender. And yes I am one of those people that does not know how much air to put in my tires and always they have helped me regardless of how busy they are. Recently as I ran in having yet another flat tire, It turned out to be a blessing as he noticed something leaking from my water pump which lead to saving my car by replacing the timing belt. Brought my vehicle in for blown radiator hose. They only installed a new top radiator hose and charged me $230. They would not change the thermostat which was the problem. I also asked to have the radiator flushed and the lower hose changed and they refused to do that. So I had to bring it to another shop to get the job done right. read more

The first two times I went to the garage were great. They were helpful and knowledgable. Hunter helped us fix a flat free of charge and emissions testing went off without a hitch. The last time I visited them was a completely different story. I went in for a diagnostic to check why my "check engine" light was on. The car is old and had misfired the morning before and we thought that may be why the light came on, but wanted to be sure. After dropping off the car I got a call saying the oil needed to be changed and that the plugs would need to be replaced soon. He said the oil change would cost $40 and the plugs would cost $150. I gave the okay for the oil change and said to call before doing anything with the plugs. They called back and I told them I would take care of the plug situation myself because the price went up to $380 (with labor). When I went to pick up my car, they charged me $147. I thought he was kidding at first. He was not. I feel like I was taken advantage of. I would not recommend this garage to anyone unless you request Hunter. read more

Excellent service every time! The people quoting you prices and ringing you up are the same ones working on your car unlike dealerships where it's a guy in a suit who's job to sell you on the repairs they want to do instead of giving you honest recommendations. I have been going there for years and have NEVER been charged for replacing my windshield wipers without me asking, period. They repaired them once when I asked them to, so I don't think they're running some sort of wiper scam, and how much would they really make on that anyway? $5 profit? They've always provided fast honest service and are always willing to thoroughly explain what's wrong with the car. When I've needed expensive repairs in the $1000 range, it almost always is slightly less than what they originally quoted me. They definitely don't nickle and dime you. In the past I've worried that a garage is just slapping an inspection sticker on my car to keep my business even the car has issues, but here, when my car gets an inspection sticker I feel like my car is cleared as SAFE to drive. Wouldn't trust anyone else to do real work on my car. Oh, and oil changes take half as long as my local dealership does despite the fact that DVG seems busier. read more
