Mark is an excellent coach, formerly with both the Polish National a coach for the US Women's Cadet team. Unlike many larger fencing schools, Mark does not use a single facility, but leverages a few local gyms around Northern New Jersey, this allows him to keep overhead down and still provide training some great training. Mark and the other coaches work well with kids of all ages and the experienced fencers love to welcome newer fencers. Note - While some locations are closed due to Covid, NFA is still able to hold limited classes at the Sparta PAL.

When I first started fencing, Blue Gauntlet and Absolute Fencing were the two main companies that…read morewere recommended to me at my club (this was before the days of Radical Fencing, which is very conveniently located in the city) for gear. Although both companies do most of their business online, we decided to drive out to BG (mostly because AF was a little further out) and check out their showroom in person. I was able to purchase the whole uniform (jacket, knickers, etc) and electric gear (lamé, body cord, wired blade, etc) for about $300. The salesperson was extremely helpful in sizing me and being able to try everything out in person before committing to the purchase offered peace of mind. For the price, I feel the quality of the products I purchased (which were all their own BG brand) were overall a pretty good value, especially for beginners who need only the basics. The only exception is their lamés. Three months after I bought my first one, I started getting metal splinters lodged into my hands occasionally when I brushed my hands over the lamé. Replaced it with a new one soon after, but the same problem returned. I would recommend getting a better quality lamé from other reputable brands (ie: Uhlmann, PBT) which are also available from BG and AF online/in store.

It was a unbelievable experience to have seen what it takes to make it in this league. I made the hour drive from New York to first get breakfast. After we headed to the facility. When you arrive they make you park at parking lot K. They have two entrances, one for VIP and the other for everyone else. Of course I wasn't aware of this so next time I will get the upgrade. You wait on line and they open at nine fifteen on the dot. They have a metal detector before you make it to the seating. The first four hundred children receive a band to get autographs from the player after training. It was pretty cool to see. Also they have retired players that sign autographs as well. Seating is not reserved so I sat close to the front. At this point no players were on the field. Finally he emerged, number ten, Eli Manning. My brother called out "Eli" he looked and he waved! Highlight of my visit. Also I got Shaquan Barkley to throw up a peace sign as well. What a amazing way to build fan experience. Also with the youth you're securing future fan loyalty. I am excited to be a Giants fan, I bleed blue! Now the next important question.....should Daniel Jones start week one?

Second, I made sure to ask about my form and positioning when I wasn't sure. Gary was very willing to offer advice and saw to it that I had the right stance each time. I got a really good arm and shoulder workout for sure. Unfortunately, the academy is not equipped with bows for lefthanders but by the end of my lesson, I became ambidextrous! I'm excited about that. Although the studio is under renovation, it did not take away from my private time. In fact I could have stayed longer than the 90 minutes that I was initially allotted. But I wore myself out. In addition to fencing and archery being offered, they also offer boxing and martial arts lessons! I will be going back for more archery and may even try my hand at fencing. Their prices are reasonable for adults and children alike.
