We asked the lady behind the register where to find the best blueberry pie, and she started to ask customers who came by who they recommended. They directed us to Moody's Diner. Locals and staff alike are quick to share stories and recommendations, which makes it feel like you're part of the community even if you're just passing through. The store itself is full of surprises. They've got a wood-burning pizza oven (yes, in a general store, how cool is that?), hot lattes, teas, and other comforting drinks, because nothing beats sipping a latte in a Victorian-style shop while digging into a fresh out of the wood burning oven gooey cheesy slice of pizza. Add in their great selection of beer and wine, plus Maine classics like whoopie pies and Moxie soda, and you've got something for everyone. There were all kinds of Yellowstone gear which ticked me, as well as merchandise. Not typical of a Hannaford. Aisles were wide and comfortable for getting around. It felt like a Toziers market, except all of the groceries were Hannaford branded. There were tons of baked goods for sale as well. If I want to go for a quick grocery run for coffee creamer and bread, this is my new go to. I can be in and out of the store in minutes with no trouble. It's a nice little place.

We stopped in when we arrived in town to pick up a quick bite and some essentials. The store is…read morelarge, clean and well stocked. The issue is with the fresh food. We waited at the food counter but no one paid attention. They were talking and laughing with each other, oblivious. The woman from the register had to come over and take our order. We finished shopping and waited for our sandwiches. 30+ minutes, standing there. The only ones. They're still yammering away. In between all of this, the register lady is running back and forth from their area to hers while they weren't worried about anything. This place is set up to be a real money maker. The food was good once we got it. The location is great. But it's a completely inefficient operation. Hire someone to man the food counter and get the kitchen help to focus instead of socializing- what a difference it would make!
