We have frequented Dusty & Sons several times during the past 5 years for tire repairs and a tire purchase. As residents of West Oakland near Frontage Rd we have experienced our share of tire punctures. This past New Year's Weekend was our last flat tire. As it was the holiday weekend we waited until today, Tuesday, 1/2 to bring our car in. We arrived and one of the Sons greeted us, friendly as ever. A nail had punctured the flat tire and he said it would be about 20 minutes to repair which was fine. The service her is exceptional as such no surprise the work was completed in 10 minutes! Got a tire pressure warning, and this was the closest tire shop. Very nice and accommodating service. Quoted me upfront for a $50 patch (they remove the tire and do it from the inside vs. other places I've been to that charges $20 to plug from the outside). They found the nail immediately and took about 15 min total to complete the repair, with no other surprises or upsells. One downside is they are cash only (no Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, etc.), which was not communicated beforehand, so had to leave my ID (not the most comfortable thought) to go to an ATM then come back. read more

This place is legit! I ended up with a flat tire and my partner told me to check this place out. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first because I didn't even realize this place was there all this time and I'm so used to getting shoddy people to help out with tire flats, but it's like a modern day Sanford & Son, but with mechanics, no father son duo, and no Red Fox. I've been going to Dusty's since I moved to Oakland. Let's be real, the state of the roads in this city are horrible, and has caused my car (and wallet) a ton of damage. Incredible people, kind, warm, and helpful. They treat you like family -- literally. They take cash tip only, and at first I thought I didn't have cash on me, and the guy helping me that day told me not to worry and just bring him a coke or Pepsi next time... what? So precious. I am so happy to have found Dusty and Sons, as they offer honest, timely, clear, and professional tire services. I took my car to the Kia dealership to check my tire light. The representative came back and said I had a staple in one tire and two nails in another, so I should buy two new tires. As these were new tires less than 5 months old being discussed, I figured their recommendation was bs, so I looked around for a family/black-owned tire shop and came across dusty and sons. I called dusty and sons, let them know what was said and they encouraged me to bring the car in. I came in about 45 minutes before they closed on a Saturday, and Melvin immediately began working on the car with a great attitude. I took a seat on one of their quaint car chairs, and got comfortable until I had realized that I left my wallet at home ‍. Melvin was extremely understanding, cheerful and patient, and within 20 minutes I was back. Upon returning, nervous about the disposition I'd be greeted with now that it was only 20 minutes til closing time on a weekend, Melvin had the same positive attitude and was as eager as ever to get working. He informed me that the staple did not puncture the tire; and the nails were removed and tire repaired. I left only spending about $30, having my issue fully resolved and with my new go to tire shop. There is nothing worse than getting a blow-out on the freeway, unless that blow out puts you in a town you've never been in and AAA says they can't get to you for 2 hours! That's when you look out the window and see Dusty's. What they lack in curb appeal, they make up for in great service and outstanding value! I rushed to Dusty & Sons while my tire was quickly losing air, stressing out the whole time that this was going to set my work day back by a long time. That wasn't the case at all! Costco tire center in Richmond turned me away due to having 2 nails in my that were 8 inches apart. They said the nails were too close together for them to repair. Tire pressure light came on and found a nail in my tire (non-side part). I actually called Costco first and tried to make an appointment because I know how crazy their tire center can be - the earliest appointment they could give me was Monday (I called on Wednesday) - woof. Told myself I would try to go wait on the weekend at the auto center (yes, I was crazy) but before I left the house I did quick a Yelp search and thankfully stumbled upon Dusty & Sons. They're much closer to me. When I called to see what they charge to patch a tire, they were friendly and joking and quoted me ~$25 put pending on what was needed. I drove up and (I think his name was) Marcell greeted me and immediately started work on the impacted tire. About 15-20 mins later, I was on my way. What an amazing experience - I had my dog with me and I was able to leave him in the car and he wasn't even scared by some of the noise. This shop is a scam. They tell you different price on the phone and they charge you triple of that price . I called and talk to someone and ask the price to remove the nail and plug it and I was told $10.00 but end up paying $35.00. I ask the person it should be $10.00 but he denied saying that. How is it $35.00 just to plug a very tiny hole. I wouldn't recommend this tire shop to anyone and I will report it to BBB. I will never go back again. read more

Got a flat tire yesterday evening after every shop already closed. This morning I called in right when Dusty & Sons opened (8am) half-expecting no one to pick up (because in my previous experiences shops never open on time!). To my surprise, Dusty picked up right away and made sure they carried the right-sized tire before I came in. I arrived at the shop 10 minutes later and my tire was replaced in another 10-15 minutes. Not only was Dusty (I think it was him) fast and efficient, but he was just SO NICE and fun to talk to that I was actually "thankful" I found him despite my flat tire situation. I already raved about him and his shop to my close friends, so please go! This shop has been open for ~30 years and I'd love to see it last my lifetime.
